The Nordics in 2025 – strong and united : Programme for the Finnish and Ålandic co-presidency

    No full text
The title of the Presidency of Finland and Åland in the Nordic Council of Ministers is the Nordics 2025 – Strong and united. The starting point for the Presidency is to support our joint vision of the Nordic Region as the most sustainable and integrated region in the world by 2030. Finland and Åland also pay particular attention to promoting societal security. The Presidency aims to further strengthen the Nordic countries' resilience to civilian crisis and to promote comprehensive preparedness for various civilian crises and hybrid threats. The second priority will be children and young people. Promoting free movement and integration between the Nordic countries is also an important objective for Finland and Åland. The Presidency will, in addition, promote the competitiveness of the Nordic Region by strengthening co-operation in areas such as innovation and sustainable solutions

Nordic Climate Actions:Showcasing scalable solutions aligned with the Global Stocktake Decision objectives

    No full text
This report highlights 13 Nordic climate action initiatives across sectors such as agriculture, forestry, heating, electricity, transport, industry, renewable energy, and waste management. It examines how these initiatives align with paragraph 28 of the Global Stocktake Decision, adopted at COP28 in 2023. The case studies feature both technical and non-technical solutions from the Nordic countries, showcasing innovative approaches to addressing climate change. These initiatives demonstrate that ambitious climate policies can climate policies can be combined with economic develop-ment. However, challenges remain in scaling solutions globally. The Nordic experience underscores the importance of long-term policy stability, local and stakeholder engagement, and strong public-private partnerships. Key findings are organized into three main lessons and three critical enablers for success

Policy Brief - Nordic Climate Actions: Showcasing scalable solutions aligned with the Global Stocktake decision objectives

    No full text
The purpose of this policy brief is to highlight Nordic solutions aligned with the global stocktake decision, to both support and inspire the Nordic countries and other nations in accelerating action towards 1.5°C pathways by scaling existing solutions. It’s based upon the main project report which identifies and showcases 13 Nordic climate action initiatives across various sectors. All of these climate action initiatives are aligned with paragraph 28 of the GST decision. These Nordic success stories have been evaluated for their potential to be scaled up and replicated beyond the Nordic region. We hope that this policy brief can inspire actors across sectors in accelerating global action and encourage greater collaboration towards a more sustainable future, paving the way for the broader adoption of effective climate strategies worldwide

A guide for Nature-based solutions in the Nordics : Implementing NbS to solve societal challenges in different ecosystems

    No full text
The world is currently facing a biodiversity and climate crisis which are globally interlinked. Nature-based solutions (NbS) is part of the solution to these challenges. NbS encompass different actions spanning protection, sustainable use, and restoration of ecosystems to solve societal challenges such as biodiversity loss, food security, and climate change mitigation and adaptation. As such, NbSs are highlighted by both the UN, IPBES and IPCC as a cost-effective way of meeting the Sustainable Development Goals. One of the main points of NbS is that they are implemented to meet societal challenges. In this report we focus on several societal challenges and how they can be addressed by NbS. We also focus on six ecosystem types and how NbS can be implemented in these: coastal, cultural landscapes, forests, mountains, urban, and freshwater ecosystems including rivers, lakes and wetlands

    Mediebarometern 2023

    No full text

    No full text

Disconnective care: Chronic illness and digital patienthood

    No full text
As the development of new digital welfare solutions to an increasing extent is carried out in public–private innovative partnerships, the provision of care and the practice of patienthood are changing. In this chapter, I draw on a pilot study consisting of an expert interview with an employee at a global tech-pharma company and two patients with IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) to tease out ambivalences and ways that disengagement and disconnection emerge as “disconnective care” in digital patienthood. Two narrative vignettes are presented and illustrate 1) digital patienthood as reinforcing the need for “boundary work” within a moral economy of (health) data-sharing, and 2) how partial disconnection is negotiated when full disconnection is not an option because of the everyday management of illness being dependent on digital media technologies. I point to the need for an ethics of “response-ability” in relation to chronically ill patients navigating digital patienthood as part of everyday life. This study is part of the “Datafied Living” project funded by Danmarks Frie Forskningsfond (grant no. 0132-00080B). </p

A day in the (datafied) life: Digital education platforms, commercial infrastructures, and the (im)possibilities of disconnection

    No full text
In classrooms, schools, and homes around the globe, digital education platforms are becoming increasingly vital partners in preparing, conducting, monitoring, and evaluating formal educational encounters. In Denmark, as well as many other spaces of formal education, the swift and extensive efforts to digitalise educational practices, institutional administration, and other aspects of schooling have availed a series of questions pertaining to the material and micro-political effects of imbricating public education with commercial digital infrastructures that operate beyond the auspices of democratic control. This chapter combines thick descriptions of school life with (big) data on user tracking to unravel a day in the life of teachers and students intertwined in the digital economies of commercial platforms and datafication. Weaving together accounts of the (datafied) school lives of two individuals – a teacher and a student in Denmark – with visualisations of data flowing from individual and collective devices to platform owners and thirdparty corporations, we discuss the implications of an unchecked, continuous, and increasing influx of digital education platforms in public primary education as well as the (im)possibilities of disconnecting from the hyperconnected school. All illustrations were made with RAWGraphs by DensityDesign, Calibro, and Inmagik.</p

    Introduction: The digital backlash

    No full text
What we in this volume call the “the digital backlash” covers a range of social and cultural practices of digital disconnection, as well as critiques of the impact of digital technologies and platforms in the world today. It thus includes a variety of overlapping and multifaceted changes and tendencies across societies, including digital disconnection, digital detox, the right to disconnect, media refusal, and what has been called “the techlash”. Hence, it can best be described as a kind of zeitgeist: a period in history in which the norms about digital behaviour, consumption, and habits are being questioned, and where the hype of the early digital era beginning in the 1990s is being challenged. In this introduction, we set the scene of the book by giving an overview of these tendencies and the history of digital critiques, serving to provide a framing for the chapters in the book.
