Changes to agricultural land use in the Nordic countries : and future prospects for collaboration

    No full text
This report investigates changes in agricultural land use and the potential for collaboration on land use in the Nordic region. Since 1960, agricultural land has declined across the Nordic countries, though the trend has recently slowed. New land use demands, such as green energy infrastructure and international commitments on biodiversity and emissions are adding pressure. A common Nordic knowledge base, including aligned soil maps and quality definitions, would support cooperation, especially in times of crisis. Key areas for collaboration include: improving national land use policy, balancing development with farmland protection, enhancing crisis preparedness, aligning soil data, and developing tools for stakeholder engagement and conflict resolution

Bridging the Digital Gap through Reverse Mentorship : Guidelines for model implementation

    No full text
This publication presents a practical, community-based model for bridging the digital divide through intergenerational exchange. By empowering youth to mentor older adults in digital skills, the initiative fosters social inclusion, civic engagement, and leadership development. Drawing on Lithuanian and Nordic experiences, it offers two adaptable models for implementation - in schools, libraries, NGOs, and beyond. Pilot consultations confirmed the value of one-on-one support, and the guide includes tools for scaling the approach sustainably. The model promotes mutual learning, stronger communities, and a more inclusive digital future

Collaborative Regional Leadership in the Nordic Region

    No full text
The study identifies factors that either enable or hinder Nordic collaboration and proposes a new model for fostering long-term, sustainable partnerships. Using data from a Nordic-wide survey and four in-depth case studies, the report zooms in on: (1) Denmark’s Coast to Coast Climate Challenge, a project fostering climate adaptation through municipal cooperation; (2) Finland’s Greenreality Network, where energy sector businesses catalyze regional economic growth; (3) Åland’s Grit:lab, an innovative tech education initiative; (4) Iceland’s Telemedicine Program, which improved healthcare access in remote areas

Low-Carbon Clinics : Practical experience with carbon reduction initiatives from building projects in the Nordic countries

    No full text
The Low Carbon Clinics report is a part of the Nordic Sustainable Construction programme. The primary objective of this report is to share best practices for decarbonisation in the construction industry through clinics hosted by local experts.  The clinics addressed real-life challenges and potential solutions for decarbonisation, involving preliminary discussions, in-person consultations and follow-up consultations. 11 clinics were conducted, covering diverse building typologies from Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden.  The report also provides a library of tools and industry knowledge available in each country to assist professionals in implementing low-carbon practices effectively

Social acceptance as a prerequisite for the green transition

    No full text
This report explores the role of social acceptance in driving the green transition across the Nordic countries. The report focuses on two cases: social acceptance of wind power development and fuel taxes and describes the situation in three Nordic countries: Denmark, Finland, and Norway. However, the insights and recommendations also apply to the other green initiatives and the other Nordic countries. The report provides a status of the level of social acceptance, identifies the main challenges, and offers general lessons learned and ways forward in terms of addressing and potentially improving social acceptance for the green transition

Nordiska ministerrådets program för fri rörlighet i Norden 2025–2030 : inklusive Gränshinderrådets mandat 2025–2027

    No full text

Policy Brief: Who is responsible for addressing transboundary climate risks to Nordic trade and food security?

    No full text
The Nordic countries, heavily reliant on global trade, are increasingly vulnerable to climate change impacts abroad. However, national policies and business practices often overlook these "transboundary climate risks" (TCRs).  Key challenges:  Diffuse risk ownership: TCRs are dispersed across multiple jurisdictions, sectors and value chains, adding far more complexity than conventional direct or domestic climate risks. A lack of business preparedness: Limited awareness and action from businesses. Policy gaps: National policies often overlook TCRs. Siloed approaches to adaptation: Current adaptation approaches do not recognise the need for cross-cutting actions that use multiple policy tools across diverse sectors  Suggested solutions: Strengthening Nordic and international cooperation Improving risk assessments Promoting public-private partnerships to enhance resilience

Välttämättömien palveluiden tarjonta ja saatavuus Pohjoismaiden maaseutualueilla

    No full text
Tämä raportti sisältää yhteenvedon Service Provision and Access to Services In Nordic Rural Areas – Secure, Trusted And For All Ages ‑hankkeen tuloksista sekä toimenpidesuosituksia

Helpon rahan ja menestystarinoiden välimaastossa: miten oikeudenmukaista vihreää siirtymää voidaan tukea poliittisin keinoin?

    No full text

Nordic Crop Wild Relative (CWR) Conservation for a More Resilient Agriculture

    No full text
Crop Wild Relatives (CWR) are wild species that are closely related to crops and can be used to adapt agricultural plants to climate change and other future challenges. This project has improved the conservation of CWR in the Nordic region and has made them more accessible to users, such as researchers and plant breeders. It has also increased our understanding of their diversity, distribution, current status, and how climate change could affect them. The project results support ongoing and future conservation efforts, both on the national and regional levels. In addition, Nordic cooperation on CWR has been strengthened, and the project has communicated its findings to a broad audience, including conservation professionals, policymakers, scientists and the interested general public.
