Hvordan fremme mangfold i sykepleierutdanninger? Førstehjelpspakke – Anbefalinger fra prosjektet "Share the care"

    No full text

First aid kit to share the care: Recommendations to Increase Diversity in Nursing Education

    No full text
Gender disparity in the Nordic healthcare sector has significant social, cultural, and economic implications in societies that prioritise equality. Despite their progressive stance, Nordic countries continue to grapple with the persistent overrepresentation of women in healthcare, reflecting a broader gender division. This policy brief is based on the “Share the Care” project findings on gender segregation in healthcare, particularly in nursing. It provides key recommendations to increase diversity in nursing education. They can be implemented at different administrative levels, starting with the faculty level at the university and then moving on to the regional and national levels

Reinventing aviation in the Nordics : The state of electric aviation and the case for enhanced industry-government collaboration.

    No full text
NEA, an industry-driven collaboration and innovation project supported and co-funded by Nordic Innovation since its launch in 2019, was in 2024 tasked with assessing progress and identifying obstacles to the realisation of electric aviation in the Nordics. In response to a mandate from the Nordic Ministers for Transport and Infrastructure, NEA embarked on a Nordic Policy Tour in 2024. This tour brought together over 100 representatives from the aviation industry, policymakers, experts, and stakeholders in mobility and transport across all five Nordic countries. The goal was clear: to align industry and governmental actions to expedite the implementation of electric aviation in the Nordics, including cross-border flights. This report shares findings and provides recommendations that aim to deliver a technology transition where the Nordics are setting the global standard.

Extending the media welfare state : The role of libraries in the Nordic countries

    No full text
An account of the Nordic media welfare state that does not consider the library sector, its historical mandates, and the role it plays in securing universal access to media content while also contributing to sustaining the media industries, is missing a piece. With this chapter, we aim to contribute to a deeper understanding of the role of public libraries in relation to a wider media context. As holders of collections of media – books, but also audio and audiovisual media – as well as important enablers of public discussions and events, libraries co-exist with media industries in multiple ways: They purchase media content, promote various forms of media, and compete with the mass media for the attention of the public as well as the resources of the state. We ask questions about the intersections between libraries and the media industries: What are their mandates, social remits, and forms of regulation? What are the challenges that face them today? What are their roles within an extended media welfare state

Nordic media welfare states from a comparative perspective : Unpacking audience fragmentation and polarisation

    No full text
In 2014, Trine Syvertsen, Gunn Enli, Ole J. Mjøs, and Hallvard Moe raisedtwo central concerns as to the future of the ideal of the Nordic media welfarestates regarding increasing demographic fragmentation and political polarisation.Using audience data from the Reuters Institute Digital News Report, we offer acomparative longitudinal perspective on how these concerns have played out infour Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden) from 2016–2022, compared with the US and the UK. We find that despite some fragmentationaccording to age, fragmentation may not be problematic per se if people’s newsdiets draw substantially on quality journalistic news outlets with a guarantee ofrelatively shared news agendas. A moderate degree of political polarisation existsfor some types of Nordic news media, with public service media showing lesspolarisation than some newspapers and digitally born outlets

Similar media systems, different self-regulation : A closer look at the Nordic media accountability models

    No full text
This chapter reviews existing media accountability systems in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden, and probes how current self-regulatory practices fit the idea of a homogeneous Nordic media welfare state model. This conception implies that Nordic institutions – including users, companies, regulators, and the state – would react to the emerging changes in the digital environment along largely uniform lines. However, a closer look at the systems of self-regulation in the Nordic countries reveals differences between their respective ethical frameworks, which in turn affect how they face perceived challenges of globalisation, digitalisation, and marketisation. Despite several historical commonalities, the Nordic self-regulatory bodies do not necessarily demonstrate a common developmental pattern in thedigital era. The implications uncovered in this appraisal thus offer insights into comparative research on media systems in general and the Nordic media welfare state in particular

Power, pride, and patience in literary reading: A paradox of precarious attention and disconnection

    No full text
Ubiquitous digital connectivity is a challenge to literary reading for leisure and recreation, and there is a tension between online life and reading concentration. On the empirical basis of a qualitative study on adult readers of literature, in this chapter I explore the tension between the act of reading and the readers’ priorities in today’s era of deep mediatisation. The chapter presents a typology of three attributes to describe the interrelation between disconnection and concentrated attention as demonstrated by literary readers. First, being a literary reader adheres to personal values that lay the groundwork for pride in self-understanding as a reader. Second, the identity as a reader triggers the power to self-regulate digital connectivity. Third, being an experienced reader enforces enduring patience to read, though not without struggle and firm decisions. The identified attributes represent both positively motivating and negatively stressing experiences. Hence, combining modern media life and long-form reading triggers ambivalence and evokes a paradox of attention. This chapter demonstrates how even personally preferred and well-experienced cognitive demanding acts, such as long-form reading, requires attention on disconnection to keep up attention. The research was funded by Kristiania University College and the Research Council of Norway (grant no. 287563). </p

Exploring telework innovation’s value for news workers

    No full text
This chapter offers a framework for examining the advantages and challenges associated with a significant innovation in newsroom work that emerged during the Covid-19 crisis: the introduction of teleworking. Applying service innovation research perspectives, which emphasise that innovations should create value for all stakeholders, our study explores how news workers experienced the swift and extensive shift to digital work modes during lockdowns and periods of strict social distancing. The analysis, based on interviews with reporters, developers, and newsroom managers in three leading newspaper companies in Norway, shows how working at a distance by means of digital tools generated complex and ambiguous value experiences among news workers. Based on this, we argue that future research applying service innovation perspectives on journalism needs to pay more attention to the value of innovations for employees. Otherwise, this research risks overlooking a stakeholder group which plays a key role in news media’s service provision to the public
