    No full text

Beyond Zero – Nordic Architecture on the Road Towards Renewed Practices

    No full text
The Beyond Zero project addresses the most urgent and significant topic for architecture today: environmental degradation. Architecture, along with other creative fields, holds immense power to drive the systemic transformation necessitated by this crisis. It can inspire, provoke, question and make tangible the radical changes at hand.  This publication summarizes the Beyond Zero exhibition, originally designed to conclude the “Nordic Carbon Neutral Bauhaus” project funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers and coordinated by the Ministry of the Environment Finland. Together with the 17 projects originally presented in the exhibition this publication forms a snapshot of Nordic architecture on the road towards renewed practices.  We hope to challenge and inspire the reader to rethink what architecture is – and what it must become – in the pursuit of a truly sustainable future.

Yggdrasil – The Living Nordic City : Implementering av naturbaserte løsninger gjennom 3+30+300 prinsippet

    No full text

Our task is to accelerate the green transition.  We serve the interests of our owners and finance the initial scale-up of Nordic green solutions on global markets. We finance green investments, primarily with loans and equity-type financing from our own revolving capital. In addition, we manage trust funds and initiatives on behalf of various donors, including the Nordic governments, the Nordic Council of Ministers and the European Union, to support their sustainability-related goals

Navigating Nordic discontent – Regional divides, electoral trends, and the green transition : A project synthesis

    No full text
Political discontent has been rising in many Western democracies, often linked to economic insecurities, spatial inequalities, and demographic shifts. While the Nordic countries generally maintain high levels of trust in institutions, growing rural-urban divides may contribute to dissatisfaction, particularly in areas facing economic stagnation or demographic imbalances. This project synthesis examines spatial disparities across the Nordic Region and their association with electoral behaviour, particularly voter turnout and support for populist parties

NEXT NORDIC GREEN TRANSPORT WAVE - LARGE VEHICLES : Zero Emission Tradelines – Potential barriers and mitigating measures

    No full text
Hydrogen is increasingly recognized as a zero-emission energy carrier with notable advantages over battery-based systems, particularly in terms of weight and refuelling efficiency, making it highly competitive for long-range and heavy load transportation. Its rapid refuelling capability compared to battery electricsolutions allows for greater operational efficiency and flexibility, potentiallyenabling the transport of more goods over longer distances in shorter times. An evaluation of the flow of goods in Nordic countries has been conducted to determine the optimal ports and routes for initial hydrogen infrastructure development. The goal is to prioritise ports and specific roads for hydrogen bunkering and refuelling stations for zero emission tradelines between countries. An analysis of barriers was conducted through the course of the project, with barriers such as high costs and lack of infrastructure mentioned as important ones, and suggesting mitigating measures through standardisation, piloting, collaboration, and economic incentives

Power Purchase Agreements and their use in the Nordics

    No full text
This report helps Nordic governments assess the EU’s proposed toolkit (Regulation 2024/1747) to support Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and explore ways to increase their use. PPAs are long-term contracts that make renewable energy projects bankable, easing investment and construction. The study mapped the Nordic PPA market, surveyed stakeholders, and analyzed challenges such as price transparency, counterparty risk, and regulatory uncertainty. It shows PPAs have driven renewable energy growth but identifies areas for improvement, concluding that flexible, predictable policies—rather than one-size-fits-all rules—best support market innovation

Planning memo 1: Regional cycling networks and cycle superhighways

    No full text
In this memo, we explore noteworthy examples and challenges of creating cohesive regional cycling networks. Extended cycling paths, like cycle superhighways, can accommodate commuters and support local as well as regional mobility. However, municipalities have different priorities, resources, and conditions for cycling, and working across administrative borders to establish high-quality infrastructure requires strong collaboration, commitment, and support. The knowledge curated for this memo uses inputs from an online workshop held in September 2025 among the Nordic Cycle Network, complemented by a literature review and a policy review. In the online workshop, regions with highly detailed strategies shared their experiences in developing cycle superhighways, which served as the basis for presenting good practices
