Towards a Just Green Transition : 10 Key messages for Nordic policymakers

    No full text
This policy brief presents ten key messages for designing and implementing a just green transition in the Nordic Region. Based on findings from the EnIGG and NJUST research projects (2021–2025), the policy brief summarises research and analysis on the social and regional impacts of climate policies, public perceptions, and political feasibility. It highlights the importance of fairness, inclusion, and place-based approaches to maintain public support and avoid reinforcing existing inequalities. The ten key messages outlined in the policy brief include: Climate worry outweighs green transition concerns across the Nordics Many Nordic people expect the green transition to bring benefits Climate communication should spark hope, especially among young people Inclusive stakeholder engagement can improve climate policy design and public legitimacy Emissions reductions are technically feasible but politically challenging Perceived local and household impacts influence climate policy support Survey results indicate public support for stronger climate action, even if it means higher taxes Place-based policies are key to avoid deepening regional inequalities Job quality and inclusive skills development are important to sustain public support The Nordic Toolbox offers practical guidance for delivering a just green transitio

Restorative Justice and Practice in the Nordic Region : Report from the RJNord Expert Seminar 12–14 May 2025, Åland Islands

    No full text
This report is a documentation of the RJ Nord expert seminar “Restorative Justice and Practice in the Nordic Region” held on the Åland Islands in May 2025. Restorative Justice (RJ) uses dialogue to address conflict, crime, or polarization by involving those affected. RJ has the potential to change society’s narrative from one of separation to one in which interpersonal connection is strong. While RJ varies across Nordic countries, there’s a shared call for stronger coordination, common standards, and cross-regional research. The goal of the RJ Nord network is to unite Nordic professionals to exchange knowledge, share best practices, and advocate for RJ in the Nordic region, fostering understanding and strengthening democratic values. The network shares a vision and objectives, as expressed in the Åland Declaration was drafted during the seminar

Nordic youth toolkit on biodiversity action

    No full text
Presented here is a Nordic Youth Toolkit on biodiversity policy, and how to engage and take action for nature.  The toolkit is based on information and lessons learned from a Nordic youth taskforce attending COP16, and presents views and recommendations from the group. The taskforce worked together from September 2024 to June 2025, as part of a project on youth engagement in biodiversity and the UN CBD, financed by the Nordic Council of Ministers and supported by the Nordic Working Group for Biodiversity.  An absolute perfect toolkit for any youth, regardless of previous knowledge and experience, to get engaged in biodiversity policy action. It is time to halt and reverse the biodiversity crisis

Digitalisationof the Public Sector : Key Results and Impact of theResearch and Innovation Initiative 2020–2024

    No full text
In this report we have outlined key insights from all six interdisciplinary projects funded under the Nordic-Baltic-UK research and innovation initiative on digitalisation of the public sector. The six projects were supported between 2020–2024, each addressing different aspects of digital innovation in public services. They have all produced impactful outputs

Mot ett hållbart och integrerat Norden : Slutrapport av Nordiska ministerrådets handlingsplan för Vår vision 2030 i perioden 2021–2024

    No full text

From arrival to participation : Measuring migrants’social and civic integration – a Nordic review

    No full text
This report explores how migrant integration – especially social and civic engagement – is measured across the Nordic countries. Reviewing national statistical practices and international sources, it reveals diverse approaches but also key gaps. While formal indicators such as political participation and naturalisation are tracked, more subjective dimensions like belonging, trust, and discrimination often remain under-measured. The study highlights methodological challenges, from differing definitions and data collection methods to low migrant survey participation and language barriers. International surveys add insights but are constrained by small samples. The report calls for stronger cross-national exchange and more multidimensional frameworks, with targeted indicators and better resources, to build a fuller picture of integration and support evidence-based policy

Nordic Cryosphere Digital Twin : Digital Twin technologies to address the impact of climate change

    No full text
Leveraging Nordic and Baltic expertise in digital twin technologies, the Nordic Cryosphere Digital Twin project (NOCOS DT) piloted new climate models for sectors like navigability, engineering, vessel design, fishing, shipping, and renewable energy. NOCOS DT tools support climate-smart practices and risk assessment, enhancing safety and efficiency in Arctic and Baltic Sea shipping. Beyond immediate industry benefits, long-term societal and economic impacts include more effective policymaking, stronger innovation capacity, and improved climate adaptation, supporting decisions and measures that also benefit traditional hunting and fishing by indigenous communities

    Nordic Oceans 2050

    No full text
This report is developed by DNV, the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), supported by Nordic Innovation’s Sustainable Ocean Economy programme. The overall aim of the report is to provide decision-makers with relevant knowledge and insight for the development of a resilient ocean economy in line with the Nordic Vision to 2030 and beyond. The main objectives of this report are to:  1) Explore future developments in the industrial sectors of the Nordic ocean economy by creating plausible future scenarios for 2050.  2) Identify potential opportunities and barriers to the adoption of strategies for blue growth and novel value chains in the Nordic ocean economy, and for taking new scientific knowledge into account in marine policymaking.

NORMO 2025 – Nordic Monitoring 2014–2024 : Status and development of diet, physical activity, use of nicotine products, alcohol and overweight

    No full text
The Nordic Monitoring System is a study of diet, alcohol, physical activity, overweight and use of tobacco and nicotine products among adults aged 18-65 and children aged 7-12 in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. This report describes the third data collection in the Nordic Monitoring System conducted in 2024 and presents the status and development from 2014 to 2024. Behaviours in terms of diet, physical activity, alcohol use and nicotine products in the Nordic countries have become less healthy and sustainable, and the prevalence of obesity has increased. Therefore, policy factors such as pricing and taxation can play a crucial role in promoting healthier and more sustainable behavioural changes across the Nordic region

Green Energy Meets Blue Food - Sustainable Coexistence in Nordic Seas

    No full text
As offshore wind power expands to meet ambitious climate and energy targets, it creates tensions and conflict over space. This report explores how Nordic countries can balance offshore renewable green energy development – particularly offshore wind power – with the continued vitality of blue food production, focusing on fisheries. The findings show that coexistence depends not only on technical or spatial planning solutions but also on collaboration between sectors and effective governance. Success requires coherent policies, transparent decision-making, inclusive stakeholder participation and mutual trust between sectors. Marine and maritime spatial planning (MSP), along with permitting frameworks, are essential tools, but must integrate ecological, economic and social objectives while managing trade-offs and adapting to new environmental and societal pressures. The expansion of offshore wind energy and the sustainable development of Nordic blue food systems are not inherently conflicting goals. But long-term coexistence requires not only national-level alignment but also cross-Nordic learning and coordination. By fostering shared understanding, trust and adaptive management, the Nordic Region can advance towards a resilient marine economy in which green energy ambitions and blue food security reinforce rather than undermine each other
