Nordic Media Literacy Survey
Media literacy refers to the knowledge and competencies needed to engage confidently and responsibly with the media. Media literacy enables informed choices – and by extension, an informed population. Our countries share many similarities, a fact reflected in the survey results, though important differences also emerge. Improving media literacy is a key priority for the Nordic media authorities. To strengthen our shared knowledge base, authorities in all Nordic countries have joined forces to conduct a comprehensive survey on multiple dimensions of media literacy. The findings in the Nordic Media Literacy Survey provide valuable insight that can inform future policies, raise awareness, and support efforts to strengthen both digital resilience and democratic participation
The Nordics as a driving force against plastic pollution : Key highlights of the project
Tackling Marine Plastic Pollution – A Nordic Vision in Action. As part of the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Vision 2030, a project which run from 2021 to 2025 has addressed one of the world’s fastest-growing environmental challenges: marine plastic litter and microplastics. Through regional collaboration and engagement, the project has contributed to clean-up efforts, policy development, and knowledge sharing across the Nordic region and beyond. This publication presents eight concise summaries of key reports and studies produced during the project. Together, they highlight Nordic solutions, insights, and contributions to international processes aimed at reducing plastic pollution and promoting sustainable plastic management. Explore the findings and be inspired by the Nordic region’s commitment to a cleaner, more sustainable future
Harmonisation and development of plastic statistics in the Nordics
Reliable plastic statistics are essential for effective policy responses to the growing global plastic pollution crisis. Despite ambitious targets across the Nordics and EU, current plastic statistics remains fragmented and difficult to compare across countries. This report identifies 37 key plastic-related data points and evaluates their availability and comparability across the Nordic region. It also examines the costs and benefits of addressing critical data gaps through improved data collection and harmonization. Key recommendations to improve plastic statistics: Standardized definitions and reporting templates for waste statistics across Nordic countries. Develop shared methodologies for estimating plastic content in production, market and trade plastic flows. Strengthen Nordic collaboration and commitment for development of better plastic statistics.

Nordic Tourism Plan 2025–2030
The purpose of the Nordic Tourism Plan 2025–2030 is to strengthen Nordic tourism cooperation and support and facilitate growth in the tourism industry in the region. The Nordic Tourism Working Group (NTWG) was formally established in 2019 to oversee implementation of the Nordic Tourism Plan
Municipal waste statistics inconsistencies : A Nordic perspective
We are pleased to introduce the report, "Municipal Waste Statistics Inconsistencies: A Nordic Perspective", a result of a collaborative effort by Denmark, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. This report delves into the critical question: Are the variations in municipal waste among Nordic countries a reflection of actual differences or is it a result of inconsistent applications of the common EU methodology across these countries? Through an in-depth examination, the report identifies the significant differences in the application of the common EU method. The findings serve as a knowledge base, underscoring the need for a more accurate and pragmatic approach to ensure consistent waste data across EU member states. Such consistency is pivotal for designing effective policies for waste reduction and recycling, and for a comparable and accurate evaluation of each country's success in reaching municipal waste targets
Local ownership of sustainable energy : A guide for local communities and decision-makers
It is time to transition to a more sustainable energy future, opening up new opportunities to own energy locally, together. Uppsala University and Nordregio have jointly produced this guide, which is aimed at those interested in creating projects for locally owned energy, as well as decision-makers or financiers who want to understand how you can support citizens in realising these projects. There is great potential in co-creating and owning energy at the local level: lower costs for residents, resilient communities and robust energy systems. Interest in community-owned energy projects is growing steadily, but there are still many questions and the process is difficult to navigate. This practical guide offers three steps to help communities move from concept to implementation, with practical lessons learnt from case studies, and references to resources. Despite a clear political will to support this transition, both at the EU and national levels, clear structures and political support are lacking. The guide, therefore, concludes with six recommendations for administration and policymakers at the local, regional, and national levels to help local energy projects flourish
