Bydgoszcz Canal in European inland waterways
No full textKanał Bydgoski zbudowany przez państwo pruskie w latach 1773-1774 i przebudowany do początków XIX wieku, przez rzekę Noteć i Brdę łączył rzeki Odrę i Wisłę. Od samego początku wiązał dorzecza, Łaby, Odry, Wisły i Dniepru, umożliwiając głównie spław drewna, w mniejszym stopniu żeglugę statków i barek. Kanał Bydgoski od samego początku traktowano jako droga wodna prowadząca z ziem polskich do Berlina, Szczecina i Hamburga. Wśród kanałów w Niemczech miał on zawsze znaczenie drugorzędne, nie był podstawą europejskiej sieci dróg śródlądowych. Od czasu przebudowy zakończonej w 1915 roku nie dokonano żadnej modernizacji kanału, a ostatnio żegluga na kanale zamarła. W różnych planach dróg wodnych powstałych w XX wieku Kanał Bydgoski uważano za przestarzały i nie naddający się do przebudowy. Kanał Bydgoski w 1996 roku został włączony do jednolitej europejskie sieci dróg wodnych (ANG), chociaż nie spienia żadnych kryteriów takiej drogi
“Before school starts...” - students’ ideas about the work of early childhood education teachers - first-grade students’ tutors
No full textSupporting the development of children is one of the most important tasks of a teacher – tutor. The article
presents the ideas of students about the work of an early childhood education teacher – a first-grade students’
tutor. The analysis is based on 21 narratives – students’ letters to the parents of prospective students. The
article is divided into four thematic parts: I. Principles, values, II. Cooperation, III. Requirements IV. Ways of
working. A qualitative analysis of the obtained research material has been carried out and the conclusions
have been drawn.Wspieranie rozwoju dzieci to jedno z najważniejszych zadań nauczyciela – wychowawcy. Artykuł prezentuje
wyobrażenia studentów wczesnej edukacji o pracy nauczyciela – wychowawcy uczniów klasy pierwszej. Podstawą
analizy są narracje – listy (21) studentów do rodziców przyszłych uczniów. Wyodrębniono cztery wątki
tematyczne: I. Zasady, wartości, II. Współpraca, III. Wymagania, IV. Sposoby pracy i dokonano analizy jakościowej
uzyskanego materiału badawczego. Na zakończenie sformułowano wnioski
Emotions and edutainment, more questions than answers
No full textEdutainment (education-entertainment) is an educational paradigm that has already been used for decades.
However, systematic research work conducted on the effectiveness of education-entertainment and persuasive
nature of the narrative has been realized since recently. In research on edutainment and learning from the
mass media, the quantitative methods have generally been used. The article is a juxtaposition of the theory
of edutainment and sociology of emotions pointing at the existing ambiguities in the field of edutainment
research. The author of the article has also indicated limitations of the analyses to date resulting from the
adopted research methodology.Edutainment, czyli uczenie się poprzez rozrywkę, jest paradygmatem edukacyjnym wykorzystywanym już
od kilkudziesięciu lat. Systematyczna praca badawcza prowadzona nad skutecznością edurozrywki i perswazyjnym
charakterem narracji realizowana jest jednakże od niedawna. W pracach poświęconych edutainmentowi
i uczeniu się z mediów masowych dominują badania ilościowe. W artykule dokonano zestawienia teorii edutainmentu
i socjologii emocji, wskazując na istniejące „niewiadome” w obszarze badań nad edutainmentem.
Zasygnalizowano również ograniczenia dotychczasowych analiz wynikające z przyjętej metodologii badań

Get PDFThe article deals with the problem of the bishop’s involvement in warfare presented in Gesta principium Polonorumby Gallus anonymous (fl. 1112-1116). according to this account, Simon, ordinary of the Masovian diocese of Płock (ca.1107-1129) – took part in a counterattack of a small unit of Masovian defenders, whose aim was to rescue the prisoners of war and the loot taken from the Masovian province by a much larger unit of pagan Pomeranians. The confrontation was supposed to end with a great victory of the defenders, who not only recovered the loot and prisoners, but also dealt a crushing defeat to the enemy. This success was attributed to Bishop Simon who, although not engaged directly in the warfare himself, made “God show his omnipotence in the battle” and turn the scales in favour of his folk. The bishop made it all possible by praying in tears with the group of clergy nearby the battlefield.
an analysis of this narrative conducted on a comparative background shows that the chronicle account essentially proves the chronicler’s attachment to a concrete image of the bishop who would not take part in an armed conflict personally or taint his pastoral mission with a direct contact with secular weapons and warriors, but would stand by his flock fighting the enemy as a miles Christi – with the spiritual weapon appropriate to his clerical order: tears and prayers. although Gallus does draw in his description on earlier literary traditions of bishops defenders of their episcopal capitals referring back to the early Middle ages, he builds his vision basing upon contemporary reformatory ideals of religious purity and clerical gentleness, i.e. a vision that adheres to the requirements of the canon law, including a little bit later Decretum Gratiani. Observing the close relationship between the image presented in the account and the late 11th- or early 12th-century reformatory tract De episcopis ad bella procedentibus, it can be concluded that Gallus supported the most radical voices raised against direct engagement of bishops in war, reserving for bishops only the role of the shephards of their flock

Get PDFThe article presents a project entitled Early Modern Letters Online (EMLO), carried out by the Bodleian Digital Library Systems and Services in cooperation with the Faculty of Humanities of Oxford University; it is financed by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The aim of the project is to publish all existing letters dated 1550-1750 in Web 2.0 space. It represents an attempt to establish cooperation between several scientific environments such as computing (information technologists, designers and architects of websides) on one hand and humanities (librarians, archivists, researchers and editors) on the other. Their goal is to present all sources in one web portal in various statistical and graphic forms. The letters come from about 4,500 places and 706 organisations and are placed in 207 repositories at present. The project enables free simultaneous access to multiple documents for private, scientific and research purposes. Its unique advantage is that it also facilitates scientific contacts with institutions and researchers dealing with those letters. This requires a proper design of the carrier layer, single or bifilar reinforcement cords and it affects the mechanical properties of the cord. In addition, there are various cord materials, different weave and diameters. Cord can be differently pre-impregnated with material of the belt or similar. Another aspects of the considerations are the inclusion of additional elements in the support layer, uneven distribution of the cord in the belt and intentional removal of cord or electrical cable entry
