"The 1-fistory of 
Elim Methodist Church 
About the year 1887 a small group of christians in the community organized a 
Sunday School in the Advent Church at Andrews Mill. It was a mixed denomination 
of Methodist and Adventist. They used Methodist Literature and the Advents were 
unhappy with its usage, which led to much confusion with the church. So the Methodist 
Superintendent gathered all the Methodists together and built the first Elim Methodist 
Church at Andrews Mill on land donated free of charge by Mr. John McLauchlin. This 
church was erected in the year 1887, Mr. Hibben Lloyd being its first charter member. 
Then later on in the year 1900, Mr. L.P. Raines gave land to be used as a new site for 
the Elim Methodist Church. Shortly thereafter in the same year the present church was 
built. The church has had many additions and improvements made on it over the years. 
In 1937, during the pastorate of Rev. W.B. Sanders, the Sunday School rooms were 
added and the entrance from the church was changed. In 1951, the lighting fixtures 
were presented to the church by Mr. Jack Adams. In 1952, a new Hammond organ was 
purchased for the church. Then in 1955, the floors were re-wcirked and sanded and 
new pews were put in the church. During this same year they did away with the old oil 
heaters and installed gas heat for the church. The year I 957 brought some changes to 
our church also, for in that year the pulpit was remodeled, new pulpit furniture was 
purchased and a carpet was placed in the church. 
During this time the Elim Methodist Church had been part of the Lamar Charge, 
except for one year during which it was placed on the Upper Darlington Circuit Charge. 
In 1958, however the Lamar Charge was separated from the other three churches so 
the Lamar charge could go station. This brought about the forming of a new charge 
known as the Lamar Circuit Charge of which Elim Church became a member. 
Having become a separated charge from the Lamar Charge it became necessary to 
erect a parsonage. In September of 1960 our parsonage was completed and the pastor 
moved in shortly thereafter. Land for the parsonage was given by Mrs. Eula Davis. 
In the years preceding 1969, the need for a new church building was felt. A building 
fund of $11,000.00 was accumulated. D. Lamar Gamble came as our pastor in June 
1969. On-November 30, 1969, the church voted to construct a new sanctuary and 
educational building. District Superintendent H.B. Lynn presided at the conference. 
The new building was financed by the sale of church bonds issued by Security Church 
Finance of Houston, Texas. -...,. 
A ground breaking service for the new building was held on January 4, 1970. 
Construction began on the colonial style building on January 5, 1970. A very successful 
bond sales campaign was held on February 17 & 18. M.A. Kelly of Hartsville 
constructed the building at an approximate cost of$60,000.00 
The first service in the church building was that ofMrs. C.O. Corbitt, twenty-four 
years old, who died when her first baby was born. This was on Saturday, July 18, 
I 970. The first worship service was held in the church on the next day. 
The building was consecrated on October 4, 1970, with Bishop Paul Hardin, Jr. 
presiding. Final construction was completed in October 1970.

Hebron Cades Property Records

Chaos theory is the study of systems that evolve in highly irregular ways due to sensitivity to initial conditions. These include but are not limited to certain physical, biological, chemical, and economic systems. In Section I, we offer a protocol that exposes the structure of chaotic trajectories in the logistic map model, a toy model of chaos, and we offer a method for stabilizing chaotic trajectories. Section I finishes with a discussion of potential pathways forward with these methods. In Section II, we look at a concrete chaotic system: the human heart. One hundred nineteen (N=119) students participated in a psychological study on the emotional carry-over effect. The participants were divided into three cohorts in an attempt to isolate the effects of slow-paced breathing (SPB) and emotional images on physiology. We analyze respiration rate, electrocardiogram frequency, and heart rate variability measures. We conclude that SPB performs better than NPB at recovering the heart from its response to emotional images
