    Risk Assessment of Blackbird Mine

    The risk assessment process involves identifying and characterizing hazards, determining dose-response relationships, and assessing possible exposures to toxins in order to inform risk management. The goal of this project was to complete the steps of a risk assessment and develop a perspective on risk management. Data collected from publicly available databases, scholarly articles, and targeted sources were used to perform a risk assessment for Blackbird Mine. Social, economic, political, and/or legal perspectives were considered when determining the best risk management approaches

    The Impact of Compliments

    This study explored the positive impacts of two different types of compliments, compliments on personality and compliments on physical characteristics. This study was an extension of another study that focused on how people underestimate the positive impact of their compliments. We predicted that personality-based compliments would have a higher positive impact that compliments based on physical characteristics

    We will investigate the physical impacts, both short and long-term effects, of substance use. In doing so, we will frame an argument for the substance\u27s addictive properties as it relates to both its physically addictive and sociological addictive properties. In doing so, a stronger understanding of how an individual can move through the stages of substance use, to abuse, and finally addiction will be reviewed. We will then address current treatment strategies for the substance and how they address or fail to address both the physical and sociological impacts of its use

    Investigating Smartphone Presence on Social Enjoyment During Various Conversations

    The goal of this study was to explore how the presence of cell phones interferes with individuals\u27 enjoyment levels after having social interactions. We predict that during casual conversations social interaction enjoyment levels will not be affected whether there is a smartphone or not compared to in meaningful conversations enjoyment levels would be higher without the presence of a smartphone versus no smartphone. To test this prediction we had participants engage in discussion about topics that were deemed casual or meaningful while either having their phone on the table or put away. Social enjoyment levels were assessed through a questionnaire right after conversation ended

    Mindfulness Meditation on the Effects of Cognitive Enhancement

    This project is analyzing the effects mindfulness meditation has on cognitive enhancement. Participants will be split into two groups one group with be practicing mindfulness meditation once a week for two weeks, while the other group will be practicing a relaxation exercise once a week for two weeks. Before implementing the exercise participants will be assessed using the Trail Making Test. Participants will be assessed once before the exercise then again after the exercise to see if there is a significant difference. This research project will be conducted in Spring 202
