The Effect of Weight on the Amount of Force on Ankle Joints During a Vertical Jump
Get PDFAnkles are one of the most complex parts of the human body. The ankle consists of bones, muscles, and joints that all work together to carry the weight of the human body, meaning the ankle also faces the most pressure and injuries. The main goal of this class project and what we are trying to determine is whether or not weight is a factor that effects the amount of force that the ankle takes on when jumping. The angles of the ankles are also being monitored due to the fact that weight could also have a correlation with them. We predict that an increased amount of weight will correlate with an increased amount of force on the ankles, but smaller angles. This information could tell us whether or not someone is more prone to ankle injuries
The effect of distance from habitat fragmentation on biodiversity of invertebrates
Get PDFHabitat fragmentation happens when human interaction causes an organism\u27s environment to emerge in discontinuities in their habitat. This leads to degradation and disrupts the ecosystem as a whole. This experiment will try to answer the question if habitat fragmentation is still prevalent on invertebrates at a further range. This will be achieved by setting two sites with pitfall traps on both sides on the fragmentation and then a third site will be added at the same distance from the first two sites. It is hypothesized that there will be a less abundance of invertebrates on sites A and B while site C will have a greater abundance of invertebrates. The conclusion that is hoped to achieve is that habitat fragmentation is not as prevalent to invertebrates if they are further from the fragmentation. Overall, the impact this experiment could have, if in a larger setting, is having scientists look beyond habitats near fragmentation if areas that are further away are still affected

Coping with Chronic Kidney Disease- Choose Your Own Adventure
Get PDFRecent studies done by the CDC have shown that 15% of US adults or 37 million people have chronic kidney disease. Of these adults 9 out of 10 do not yet know they are suffering from chronic kidney disease. This disease is the gradual loss of kidney function over time. Unfortunately signs and symptoms may appear too late, when your kidney\u27s function have become beyond repair. Symptoms for CKD are described as nonspecific and could resemble other illnesses. These include nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, change in frequency of unrination, swelling of the feet and ankles and shortness of breath. Risk factors that can be controlled are diabetes, smoking, and obesity. Those factors that can not be controlled are older age, family history, abnormal kidney structure and certain ethnicities such as African Americans, Native Americans and Asian Americans. The purpose of this interactive story is to allow participants to choose health decisions in order to decide their destiny when it comes to living with chronic kidney disease
Prone Versus Supine in Mechanically Ventilated Patients
Get PDFThe purpose for this project is to determine whether the prone position is the best position for a patient who is being placed on a mechanical ventilator. Our research question is, in mechanically ventilated patients, does the use of the prone position promote better patient outcomes than the supine position? We are comparing recent studies on the benefits and complications that can arise in placing patients in the prone or supine position. We hypothesize that the prone position has greater benefits towards the patient\u27s quality of care. Utilizing the library as a resource, provided us with relevant information related to our research
