So, You Want to Take Zoloft (Sertraline)?: A Biological & Psychological Analysis
A lot of individuals around the world suffer with panic disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). One drug that has been found to significantly decrease these feelings of stress is Sertraline. Sertraline has been proven to increase quality of life among individuals with certain mental health disorders. In addition, it is commonly known as Zoloft and is prescribed to individuals by doctors and psychiatrist. However, we will be talking about how in extreme causes sertraline could become addictive and have withdrawal side effects. Furthermore, during this poster presentation we will be discussing how sertraline is not an additive drug and has many positive biological and psychological effects

Risk Assessment of Devil\u27s Swamp Lake
The risk assessment process involves identifying and characterizing hazards, determining dose-response relationships, and assessing possible exposures to toxins in order to inform risk management. The goal of this project was to complete the steps of a risk assessment and develop a perspective on risk management. Data collected from publicly available databases, scholarly articles, and targeted sources were used to perform a risk assessment for Devil\u27s Swamp Lake. Social, economic, political, and/or legal perspectives were considered when determining the best risk management approaches
Geographic Distribution and History of Plant Specimens at Longwood University Harvill-Stevens Herbarium
Herbaria are plant museums comprising collections of dried mounted plant specimens crucial for education, research, and conservation purposes. They provide a permanent record of plant diversity found in a particular area over time. An understanding of geographic coverage and history of collection of specimens in a herbarium is important for future planning and growth of a herbarium. The purpose of this study was to understand the county-level distribution and chronology of collection of plant specimens housed in Harvill-Stevens Herbarium at Longwood. Harvill-Stevens Herbarium is the largest collection of Virginia native plants the second largest herbarium in the state consisting of over 75,000 specimens. A record of the geographic origin of these plants will help researchers understand a change in the distribution of plant species over time. Location and collection dates were obtained by examining a total of 500 herbarium sheets. In addition, other interesting information such as the date of collection and conservation status was also collected, when possible. Based on the 500 specimens studied, the collection seems to represent an overall even distribution of specimens across the counties of Virginia, with some hotspots in more populated areas. In terms of time of collection, most of the specimens were collected in the 1970s and 1980s. Overall, this research has helped us better understand the geographic distribution and chronology of the collection of plant specimens in the Harvill-Stevens Herbarium. This study was limited to only 500 out of 75,000+ specimens housed in the herbarium given a time constraint. Work is in progress to study the entire collection as well as a detailed study of the conservation status of specimens in the herbarium
The Process of Isolating, Purifying, And Analyzing the GFP Gene from the pGLO Plasmid, and Transforming and Expressing GFP in E. coli Cells.
The aim of this project was to isolate, amplify, and purify the GFP gene from the pGLO plasmid, for both analysis as well as the translation and expression into Escherichia coli cell cultures. The Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) technique was used to isolate and amplify the GFP gene, which was then purified for use in the agarose gel electrophoresis (AGE) chamber, to distinguish the DNA fragments by size and determine the presence of the desired amplicon. The NanoDrop, SnapGene, and Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST) softwares were then used for the analysis of the purified amplicon. During the analysis of the purified amplicon, the A260/A280 value was 1.94. The pGLO plasmid was then transformed into competent E. coli cells, which were then left to incubate and grow for final analysis of the gene. The pGLO plasmid was successfully transformed into the E. coli cells. There was growth in all of the agarose gel plates except for the -pGLO LB/amp plate. The GFP gene from the pGLO plasmid was successfully expressed only in the cell cultures of the +pGLO LB/amp/ara agarose gel plate, as that plate had the arabinose in the agarose, which was necessary for the growth and development of the GFP gel\u27s expression within the bacteria
Micro-RNA, a Solution for Understanding Depression
Major depressive disorder is a mood disorder that causes sadness and loss of interest. This affects how one may feel, think, or behave which impact their physical and mental state. People who have been diagnosed with this disorder find themselves losing interest in things they once loved. In the United States there are 16.1 million Americans diagnosed with MDD. This disorder is more common in individuals who have had it in their families which has resulted in the interest in how different genes impact MDD. Micro-RNA has been researched and discovered to have a correlation with MDD. These Micro-RNA\u27s show an adaptive response to stress leading to either a resilience or development of this disorder. Once more is understood on effects that these Micro-RNA\u27s have on different genetic makeup, medication can be developed along with different therapies to help with different Micro-RNA. This could also help find and treat individuals who are more susceptible to this disorder before it proliferates

Evidence Based Research Project: Racial Disparities in Healthcare
Many studies completed in the United States have proven that there is a national problem surrounding our country regarding racial disparities in health care. The issue of racial disparities directly impact patient care negatively, and statistics prove that people of color actually have a higher mortality rate. There are a variety of reasons that this issue is happening in our country, beginning with our education system, and even unconscious biases among healthcare professionals. Research has shown that many healthcare professionals believe, and are taught, the misbelief that People of Color feel less pain or that they may be drug addicts trying to get pain medications. Combating these disparities in health care mainly involves educating those wishing to join the medical field of the racial disparities that exist. Another way to combat racial disparities is to enable more people of color to join the medical field
Vascular Access Teams and Their Success in the Acute Care Setting
Peripheral intravenous catheters (PIV) are frequently used in acute care settings for short-term delivery of intravenous (IV) medications and fluids (Marsh et al., 2018). While this is a common practice in the hospital, the insertion of these PIVs can be quite difficult. According to Marsh et al. (2018), multiple insertion attempts are common, and post-insertion failures from complications such as occlusion are as high as 69%, triggering the insertion of subsequent catheters. This research analyzed the use of a vascular access team, commonly known as an IV team, to improve PIV outcomes in the acute care setting. These vascular access teams are comprised of individuals who have specialized, extensive knowledge having to do with the insertion of vascular access devices, one of which is a PIV
