Bernhard Heiden\u27s Sonata for Alto Saxophone and Piano
Get PDFMy enhancement for MUSC 332, History of Music II, is a look at the life of the German-American composer Bernhard Heiden and how his Sonata for Alto Saxophone and Piano is an outstanding representation of his compositional style. Throughout this process I have studied, learned, and performed the second movement of Heiden\u27s sonata on the alto saxophone. I worked on this piece in my private saxophone lessons with my professor, Dr. Kinzer, so I could accurately portray the character of Heiden\u27s music. This process helped me learn more about Heiden as a composer, and also gave me a greater appreciation for his musical choices. All of my findings are presented in poster format to bring awareness to a lesser known composer while providing concert notes and analyses of one of his most famous works
Rhetorical Appeals Analysis: John F. Kennedy\u27s Civil Rights Address and the Delivery to the American People
No full textOn the eleventh of June, 1963, the 35th President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, gave his Civil Rights Address following an Alabama University scandal involving unequal treatment of African American students. By using the three rhetorical appeals: logos, ethos, and pathos, he established his point and credibility to deliver a well punctuated speech addressing the mistreatment of African Americans in our country. Credibility, logic, and emotional support was hit on in this speech to provide a copious amount of information for the audience to reflect and gave them the opportunity to change their outlook on the way they live their life from that point on. Especially in present day, we as a society can use this speech to further educate ourselves on our duty to keep America free and treat all people of all culture and skin color with grace and respect

Get PDFThe objective of this research is to examine the effectiveness of the Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T.) program in decreasing juvenile gang membership, violence, and activity. A systematic review of studies conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the G.R.E.A.T. program and outcomes indicate that the policy is effective on reducing gang membership and activity. In addition, this policy has also provided positive skills for the juveniles in attempt to decrease potential gang membership risk factors

No full textThe objective of this research is to examine the effectiveness of school-based child abuse prevention programs in regard to helping children gain knowledge of abuse and teach them how to properly respond if found in an abusive situation. A systematic review of studies conducted to assess the impact of these policies indicated that the policies are indeed an effective means in providing children with the knowledge and understanding of child abuse through engaging programs. There are some considered factors that needed to be included to make the programs as successful as possible but overall, these programs did what they sought out to do
