Blessed be the Fruit - Female Representation in The Handmaids Tale Season 1
The show The Handmaid\u27s Tale on the television network Hulu, created by Bruce Miller, depicts the struggle of a woman named June who is serving as a handmaid to a powerful commander and his wife to bear their child. This society is a futuristic version in which fertility and birth rates have plummeted. They have an extreme, twisted version of gender norms. A woman\u27s only purpose is to bear children. Fertile women are forced to carry children for powerful couples, their only worth is being fertile. In this project I will present how the show, specifically focusing on the first season, depicts women and men in this society, and how it uses and demeans women
THE VIRGIN LOSER: HETERONORMATIVITY IN AMERICAN COMING OF AGE FILM COMEDIES FROM FAST TIMES ATÂ RIDGEMONT HIGH TO AMERICAN PIE
In this presentation, I argue that if we look at the portrayal of virginity loss scenarios in Fast Times at Ridgemont High and American Pie we will see that they are exclusively heteronormative, this is significant because it perpetuates fears and insecurities among the youth that virginity has a strict definition and looks the same for everyone
Does smoking cessation counseling improve success rates in adult smokers who desire to quit compared to both pharmacologic therapy for cessation and no therapy or counseling?
This research is aimed to answer the question: does smoking cessation counseling improve success rates in adult smokers who desire to quit compared to pharmacologic therapy for cessation and no therapy or counseling? We looked at health-related literature to determine which method of smoking cessation had the highest success rates. In our research we expected to find that success rates were greatest when individuals had a combination of pharmacotherapy in conjunction with counseling. A report of the Surgeon General compiled results of studies reporting the efficacy of numerous cessation therapies and their success. Our research of these and other reports supported our expectation. Medication and counseling both have roles in smoking cessation and have led to higher success rates in smoking individuals. We concluded that patients who wish to quit smoking should try counseling first and, if needed, use pharmacotherapy to aid in smoking cessation as the combination of both therapies has the highest success rate
Risk Assessment of Anaconda Copper Mine
The risk assessment process involves identifying and characterizing hazards, determining dose-response relationships, and assessing possible exposures to toxins in order to inform risk management. The goal of this project was to complete the steps of a risk assessment and develop a perspective on risk management. Data collected from publicly available databases, scholarly articles, and targeted sources were used to perform a risk assessment for Anaconda Copper Mine. Social, economic, political, and/or legal perspectives were considered when determining the best risk management approaches
Does playing video games make you an athlete?
The purpose of this study is to compare the tap and move-and-tap reaction times between those who play sports, those who play video games, and those who do neither. We hypothesize that the Neither group will have the slowest reaction times, while the Sports group will have the fastest move-and-tap reaction times, and the Gamers group has the fastest tap reaction times. Many research articles have indicated that gamers and athletes have similar reaction times speeds, with non-gamers/athletes having the slowest. However, we wanted to test the reaction times of all groups, based on them simply taping a button/mouse already in their hand, to them having to reach/extend their arm to tap a button/mouse. We would expect gamers to have faster reaction times/speed when it comes to pressing the mouse/button (that is placed in their hand), opposed to having to press it while extending their arm. Furthermore, we expect athletes to have faster reaction times/speed to having to extend their arm to press the mouse/button, with non-gamers/athletes having the slowest reaction times/speeds in both categories. Conclusions will allow us to decide if gaming is considered a sport. Thus, ultimately determining if E-Sports rightfully belongs in the Olympics
