Analysis of overload and sensorless control capability of PM-assisted synchronous reluctance machines
Synchronous reluctance machines are a valid alternative to induction motors for industrial applications requiring variable speed regulation. To mitigate the well-known downside of their lower power factor, permanent-magnetassisted topologies are adopted. Both high-strength rare-earth magnets and low cost ferrite magnets can be used in such machines. Their design and optimization procedures have been discussed in related literature. This paper compares synchronous reluctance machines assisted with NdFeB and ferrite magnets, focusing on torque overload capability and feasibility of saliencybased position estimation algorithms. Three prototypes were realized and tested. They all have the stator of a commercial induction motor, and three custom synchronous reluctance rotors with same laminations: one has no magnets, the other two have NdFeB and ferrite magnets respectively, designed to give the same torque at rated current. Results from simulations and experiments are presented, focusing on torque and demagnetization limits in the over-current loading range. Moreover, the feasibility of saliency-based sensorless methods is investigated, both at high and low current loads. The results of the paper suggest that the ferrite-assisted solution is the candidate solution for replacing induction motors in variable speed applications

Extensive literature is available that refers to speech intelligibility studies on the effect of artificially added reverberation and speech-shaped noise, whereas there is a little number of works that account for realistic acoustics. Effects of two different modeling alternatives of diffusive surfaces on the objective and perceptual evaluation of the simulated sound fields
Different acoustic simulation software have been substantially improved over the last decades accounting for absorptive and diffusive acoustic properties of different surfaces. Whereas the characteristics of the absorptive surfaces have been thoroughly investigated and implemented, the diffusive surface features are still subject to continuous research. So far, the degree of modeling detail of diffusive surfaces, and consequently, the effects that this has on the objective and subjective accuracy of simulations is an open point. In order to give more insight on this aspect, Odeon acoustic simulations have been performed in the model of a variable-acoustic concert hall using a diffusive and a reflective condition of one of the lateral walls. Two different modeling alternatives of the wall diffusive condition have been investigated. Objective acoustic parameters, such as early decay time (EDT), reverberation time (T 30), clarity (C 80), definition (D 50), and interaural cross correlation (IACC), have been compared between the two conditions. Furthermore, a subjective investigation has been performed in order to determine the most accurate modeling alternative of the diffusive surfaces. Although the simulated objective results showed a good match with measured values, the subjective results highlighted significant perceptual differences for different modeling alternatives

Semi-automated Model-Based Generation of Enterprise Architecture Deliverables
As part of Enterprise Architecture projects, models are built using different languages and tools to document and analyze the state of business and IT. However, models are just intermediate assets: deliverables are the actual outputs, but they are typically hand built using information from the models, and following the structures specified in EA methods. This requires manual effort, is error-prone, and results in artifacts that might be out-of-date very quickly. This paper addresses this by making a proposal to support the semi-automated generation of EA deliverables using a scripting Domain Specific Language for the creation of deliverable templates
A Spatial Ontology for Architectural Heritage Information
The evolved potentialities of information technologies permit data disambiguation, interoperability and sharing through the web to reach an effective comprehensive knowledge. International standards are published as a reference for integrating data in a common framework and in an open perspective. Standard ontologies exist both in the cartographic and the cultural heritage field; however, they are distinct standards, and some limits (in the spatial or semantic management) make them incomplete for being used to manage architectural heritage knowledge. It is necessary to exploit both disciplines' contributions, integrating them in a model suitable for architectural heritage data management. In this paper, the ontological model for cartographic urban themes, OGC CityGML, is extended for managing architectural heritage multi-scale, multi-temporal, complex data. The conceptual framework is explained and some implementation aspects are considered, both for the definition of the extension and for the filling-in of such a structure with architectural heritage 3D data
