    The paper proposes a method able to describe, classify and organize information assets concerned with Architectural Heritage, through the use of integrated survey procedures, mainly based on Terrestrial Laser Scanner (TLS). The point clouds have been imported into the Building Information Modelling (BIM) software to start with the modelling phase. The focus of the research is the creation of a parametric object representing the preservation status of materials and building components: 3D modelling of decays in the BIM platform ensures to enrich the related database with graphic, geometric and alphanumeric data that can be effectively used to design and manage future interventions

    Effect of Autoclave Heating and Cooling Rates on Adhesively Bonded Lightweight Material Joints

    This study investigates the effect of the rate of autoclave heating and cooling on the performance of bonded lightweight material single lap joints (SLJ) after they have been heat cycled at high relative humidity. Two different temperature ramp rates are used for the autoclave bonding of test joints. Joint performance is assessed in terms of the load transfer capacity (LTC) and the corresponding failure mode in a tensile-shear test. Three different combinations of Aluminium and Magnesium adherends are used in test samples using aliphatic polyether (polyurethane) film adhesive. The effect of heating rate on the peel strength of cured adhesive is also investigated. Data analysis and discussion are provided

    Foundations of Map-based Web Applications - A Survey of the Use, Limits and Opportunities Offered by Digital Maps

    Traditional maps are one of the oldest way to express relevant information on a locality base, as synthetic representations of reality. The traditional visualization theory of maps and the related principles used to structure spatial information can inspire the modelling of new solutions in the field of information management in web application. But, the fast and generalized spreading of digital maps, and the related production of geo-localized social media is not followed by a deep integration of map in web applications, preventing the effectiveness of digital maps in solving pressing issues like aggregation, retrieval, recommendation and presentation of spatial media. Through the analysis of key concepts of maps, this contribution addresses the foundations of map-based applications, discussing the limits of current approaches and introducing new opportunities based on deep integration between maps and applications

    Aquatic-derived biomaterials for a sustainable future: A European opportunity

    The valorization of aquatic-derived biowastes as possible feedstock for the production of value-added chemicals and materials is proposed here as a sustainable alternative compared to the exploitation of the more conventional (fossil) resources. In this context, the comprehension of the opportunity related to the valorization of the shellfish industry biowaste for the production of useful materials, especially focusing on chitin and its derived byproducts, is investigated. The large amount of waste produced each year by the shellfish processing industry seems to be an appealing opportunity for the European market to produce valuable products from underutilized waste. In order to highlight this important market-opportunity, the actual European situation concerning the shellfish volume of production is presented. The industrial processes necessary for the recovery of chitin, chitosan, and their derivatives are largely described, together with a wide description of their peculiar (and interesting) physicochemical properties. Even if nowadays the scientific literature suggests that this class of biopolymers is very appealing, further research is still necessary for overcoming some criticisms still present in the extraction and valorization of such substrates. However, the principles of both circular economy and green chemistry encourage the reduction of such biowastes and their exploitation as an alternative resource for a global sustainable future

    Measurement of deuteron spectra and elliptic flow in Pb-Pb collisions at root s(NN)=2.76 TeV at the LHC

    The transverse momentum (p(T)) spectra and elliptic flow coefficient (v(2)) of deuterons and anti-deuterons at mid-rapidity (|y| < 0.5) are measured with the ALICE detector at the LHC in Pb-Pb collisions at root s(NN) = 2.76 TeV. The measurement of the p(T) spectra of (anti-)deuterons is done up to 8 GeV/c in 0-10% centrality class and up to 6 GeV/c in 10-20% and 20-40% centrality classes. The v(2) is measured in the 0.8 < p(T) < 5 GeV/c interval and in six different centrality intervals (0-5, 5-10, 10-20, 20-30, 30-40 and 40-50%) using the scalar product technique. Measured pi(+/-), K-+/- and p+(p) over bar transverse-momentum spectra and v(2) are used to predict the deuteron p(T) spectra and v(2) within the Blast-Wave model. The predictions are able to reproduce the v(2) coefficient in the measured p(T) range and the transverse-momentum spectra for p(T) > 1.8 GeV/c within the experimental uncertainties. The measurement of the coalescence parameter B-2 is performed, showing a p(T) dependence in contrast with the simplest coalescence model, which fails to reproduce also the measured v(2) coefficient. In addition, the coalescence parameter B-2 and the elliptic flow coefficient in the 20-40% centrality interval are compared with the AMPT model which is able, in its version without string melting, to reproduce the measured v(2)(p(T)) and the B-2(p(T)) trend

    K*(892)(0) and phi(1020)meson production at high transverse momentum in pp and Pb-Pb collisions at root sNN=2.76 TeV

    The production of K*(892)(0) and phi(1020) mesons in proton-proton (pp) and lead-lead (Pb-Pb) collisions at root sNN = 2.76 TeV has been analyzed using a high luminosity data sample accumulated in 2011 with the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Transverse momentum (p(T)) spectra have been measured for K*(892)(0) and phi(1020) mesons via their hadronic decay channels for p(T) up to 20 GeV/c. The measurements in pp collisions have been compared to model calculations and used to determine the nuclear modification factor and particle ratios. The K*(892)(0)/K ratio exhibits significant reduction from pp to central Pb-Pb collisions, consistent with the suppression of the K*( 892)(0) yield at low pT due to rescattering of its decay products in the hadronic phase. In central Pb-Pb collisions the pT dependent phi(1020)/p and K*(892)0/p ratios show an enhancement over pp collisions for pT approximate to 3 GeV/c, consistent with previous observations of strong radial flow. At high pT, particle ratios in Pb-Pb collisions are similar to those measured in pp collisions. In central Pb-Pb collisions, the production of K*(892)(0) and phi(1020) mesons is suppressed for p(T) > 8 GeV/c. This suppression is similar to that of charged pions, kaons, and protons, indicating that the suppression does not depend on particle mass or flavor in the light quark sector
