Mediatized Discourses on Europeanization and Their Representations in Public Perceptions
The MEDIATIZED EU project was funded under the Horizon 2020 program "SOCIETAL CHALLENGES – Europe in A Changing World – Inclusive, Innovative and Reflective Societies," which aims to foster a greater understanding of Europe, provide solutions and support inclusive, innovative and reflective European societies in a context of unprecedented transformations and growing global interdependencies. Addressing the transformation of European media landscapes and Europeanization, our research draws on regional, national and European data to analyze transformations of the European media landscape from the turn of the 21st century to the current day. In this context, MEDIATIZED EU examines the patterns of construction, dissemination and consumption of media representations and narratives on major European political and cultural issues, markers, symbols and identity elements.
The many challenges and crises facing Europe today call for more complex comparative analyses that go beyond national borders to develop a foundation upon which national and European contexts can be better understood. This requires interventions that unfold the potential of shared ideas for the European future to create new synergies and shared understandings, while also acknowledging the heterogeneity of Member States and the diversity in culture, regions and socio-economic settings as a European strength.
This edited volume is the culmination of our efforts to address these challenges over the four years of the project's lifetime. Illuminating the role of contemporary media in fostering or hampering political and cultural Europeanization and societal cohesion through re-shaping European political and cultural representations and public opinion, our insights equip policymakers with cutting-edge knowledge about the impact of the changing media landscape on European politics and on the Europeanization project. Our research findings also contribute to developing Europeanization strategies that foster settings in which European, national and ethnic identities can coexist and be mutually enriching, while building a stronger Europe as a global protector of democracy and human rights and as a champion of the European way of life on the global stage.

Towards an intersectional justice approach to carbon taxation: Energy poverty, vulnerable households, and revenue recycling in Ireland
This article adopts an intersectional lens as an analytical framework to examine how overlapping demographic dimensions, such as age, ability, ethnicity, geography, gender, and home ownership status, shape the diverse experiences of energy poverty among low-income households in Ireland. Despite extensive research on the vertical impacts of carbon taxes across income groups, scholarship examining horizontal impacts on non-income groups remains limited, with few studies employing qualitative methods to investigate intersectional justice implications. Addressing this gap, our study conducted twenty-one semi-structured interviews with key informants to identify vulnerabilities often overlooked in conventional economic analyses. Our findings reveal that while Ireland's carbon tax policy has implemented progressive revenue recycling measures that benefit households in the bottom five income deciles, certain vulnerable groups, particularly renters, Travellers, and disabled persons, are not fully recognised in both policy design and economic modelling. The study demonstrates that qualitative research methods can complement quantitative approaches by uncovering vulnerabilities that are statistically difficult to capture in econometric studies due to data limitations or small sample sizes. We argue that carbon tax policies informed by intersectional analysis can more accurately mitigate adverse impacts on vulnerable populations and foster more equitable transitions to a low-carbon economy. Potentially, this can also improve public acceptability of carbon taxes. This research contributes to the emerging literature on horizontal impacts of carbon pricing and offers insights for policymakers seeking to design more inclusive climate policies that address the complex interplay between carbon pricing and non-income vulnerabilities

nanocarrier system that can deliver doxorubicin (DOX) to cancer cells via a pH-dependent drug release mechanism. The nanocarrier formulation consists of a hyaluronic acid/phospholipid conjugate (HA-DMPE) that is non-covalently bound to the BN-CNOs upon which DOX is loaded via π–π stacking interactions. The HA-DMPE/BN-CNO/DOX system enhances the uptake and anticancer effects of DOX in MDA-MB-468 and MDA-MB-231 TNBC cells whilst reducing the cardiotoxicity of DOX in AC-16 human

Renting at the Frontier: Protecting the Rights of Licensees in Ireland
In Ireland’s housing crisis, a growing population of renters, known as licensees—, ive under residential licence arrangements, including Rent-a-Room schemes, head-tenant sublets, and other unregulated lets. Unlike tenants protected by the Residential Tenancies Act (RTA), licensees have no formal recognition, limited legal safeguards, and no access to dispute-resolution mechanisms, leaving them uniquely vulnerable to eviction, poor standards, and arbitrary rules. Using a informal housing lens, this study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining focus groups with licensees and housing advisors, interviews with legal and policy experts, analysis of RTB tribunal decisions, and review of government data. Findings reveal systemic inequities, including deliberate mislabelling of contracts to evade tenant protections, tax incentives favouring landlords without safeguarding licensees, judicial reliance on substance-over-form interpretations, and fragmented guidance and support. The research highlights the structural precarity of licensees, particularly students, low-income workers, and migrants, and underscores the urgent need for policy interventions to provide rights, protections, and clearer information for this under-regulated sector
Trends in digital technologies to address children's online safety education: A systematic scoping review
This scoping review aims to identify trends in studies related to children's online safety education facilitated by digital technologies. The review is guided by the five-stage framework developed by Arksey and O'Malley. We searched in four electronic databases: ERIC,Web of Science, Scopus, and the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). The studies identified in the search were independently reviewed by two authors using the PRISMA checklist for scoping reviews and the Rayyan software. Following the study's inclusion and exclusion criteria, we incorporated 34 papers into the scoping review. Our analysis revealed a growing number of educational technologies designed for children's Internet safety education over the years. Among various approaches, game-based learning emerged as the most popular method for delivering educational content within the broader domain of online safety education for children. The majority of the studies focused on children aged 11–14 years old, with sample sizes ranging from 6 to 976 child participants. Additionally, intervention-based research designs were the most frequently employed methodology. Our study advances the knowledge base on technology-based education in online safety training of children by mapping the literature of this field and unveiling the trends over the past decade. These insights can shape future research directions in online safety education and inform the educational technology industry

Predicting a Successful Attempt in Raw Powerlifting. A Nonlinear Mixed Logistic Regression Analysis.

J Strength Cond Res XX(X): 000-000, 2025-This study aimed to predict successful lift attempts in raw powerlifting by examining the influence of jump size (the absolute difference in weight between consecutive attempts) and other factors, using a logistic regression model with nonlinear splines. Data from 93,333 lifters (62,679 males, 30,654 females) across 6,979 International Powerlifting Federation competitions were analyzed. The data set was partitioned into training (80%) and test (20%) sets, with sex-specific models developed to account for class imbalance. Predictors included jump size, lift type (squat, bench press, deadlift), attempt transition (first-to-second or second-to-third), and covariates such as body mass, age, and opening attempt weight. Random effects for lifter identity were included to control for individual performance variability. Significance was set at p 20 kg, especially on third attempts. Bench press success increased slightly with jump sizes 10 kg significantly reduced success, particularly on third attempts. In the bench press, female lifters showed an almost linear decline in success with increasing jump size on second attempts, with third-attempt success decreasing sharply beyond 4 kg. Female deadlift success followed a similar pattern to squats but showed slightly greater tolerance, with optimal jumps approximately 9-11 kg. In both sexes, third attempts consistently had lower success rates than second attempts. These findings highlight the nuanced role of jump size in attempt success and provide actionable insights for competition strategy. Coaches and lifters can use these results to optimize attempt selection, particularly in balancing risk and reward across attempts
