Blood Cries Out From the Ground: The Einsatzgruppen and the Holocaust in Ukraine
Get PDFAfter the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union on June 22, 1941, the Wehrmacht occupied much of the western Soviet regions. The Third Reich deployed special killing squads known as the Einsatzgruppen to protect its military and ideological interests. These units were responsible for murdering over two million Jews from 1941 to 1944, primarily through mass shootings. Ukraine was one of the most afflicted countries by this “Holocaust by Bullets.” Because of the efficient genocidal techniques of Einsatzgruppen units operating in the region, one in four Jews who perished in the Holocaust was Ukrainian. The scale on which these killings was perpetrated demonstrates that the Holocaust by Bullets was a significant part of the Nazi extermination of European Jewry

Thus, professionals in industries such as publishing, theater, and television and film should be aware of the integral role fandoms play in the consumption of their content and how to nurture fandoms through the means discussed in this article

Fall 2022 Student Textbook Survey Results
No full textDuring the Fall 2022 semester, eleven Oberlin Group institutions in association with the Open and Equitable Access to Scholarship Working Group conducted a student textbook survey adapted from the 2016 Florida Virtual Campus survey and the 2019 Gettysburg College survey. The goal of the project was to gain a better understanding of how the costs of course materials impact our own students. This presentation provides an overview of those results as well as action steps libraries can take to better support our students.

Introduction: When Feminism and Antisemitism Collide
No full textAntisemitism and misogyny often go hand in hand. Conservative defenders of the status quo who target Jews frequently oppose feminism as well. Jewish women cannot escape from the negative stereotypes also aimed at their male counterparts, and they contend with additional gendered stereotypes. Negotiation of these issues becomes even more complex when one considers how both Jewishness and gender identity are often perceived or assigned by the beholder, perhaps particularly in the context of antisemitism and misogyny. Karl Lueger, the influential mayor of Vienna from 1897 to 1910 who legitimized antisemitism in Austrian politics, famously declared, I decide who is a Jew (Geehr 436), underscoring the extent to which prejudices and opportunities can shift depending on political context and the whims of those in positions of power. Contemporary scholarship, literature, and popular culture address the intersection of these two forms of prejudice by interrogating the perniciousness of antisemitism and the pervasive nuances of misogyny.
