Lezioni di Traduzione 3 (Traduzioni dantesche nel mondo)
LESSONS IN TRANSLATION 3. The third volume of "Lezioni di Traduzione" is a contribution to the celebrations of the 700th anniversary of Dante’s death held at the University of Bologna. Each paper is devoted to the study of the translations of the "Divine Comedy", both from an educational and a didactic perspective. To explore significant examples of Dante’s presence in various languages and literatures, namely in the Arabic, German, French, Polish and Russian areas, the selected essays mostly focus on the act of translation and on the figure of the translator. The authors thoroughly examine the process of translation, the transpositional strategies, the intertextual references and adaptations of the "Divine Comedy" in different cultural contexts. In addition to this, they observe the reflection of specific cultures in Dante’s poem
Le traduzioni in russo della “Divina Commedia” come parte della “World Literature”
THE TRANSLATIONS INTO RUSSIAN OF THE "DIVINE COMEDY" AS PART OF “WORLD LITERATURE”. Translations are essential to the concept of “world literature” (Venuti 2013: 193), which, in turn, «is not an infinite ungraspable canon of works but rather a mode of circulation and of reading» (Damrosch 2003: 5). Dante’s "Divine Comedy" is considered a canonical text par excellence and it has been translated into many languages of the world. A recent project by J. Blakesley of the University of Leeds (2017, 2022) on a concrete statistical basis has reduced the “canonicity” of this work, which has not yet been translated into seventy-five per cent of the most widely spoken languages in the world. In the second and third parts we review the various translations, partial or complete, of the "Divine Comedy" in Russia from the eighteenth century to the present. Two main types of approach emerge. The first is foreignizing and favours the source text and its lexical and stylistic characteristics in order to renew and enrich the Russian literary and cultural heritage. The second is a domesticating approach that aims to enhance the aesthetic effect of the text by euphony, elegance of style, and simplicity of concepts. There are also mixed solutions, such as that of the now canonical translation by Michail Lozinsky completed in the mid-forties. On the one hand it has a foreignizing approach thanks to a careful use of archaic expressions and Slavonisms and the rigid cage of the verse and strophic form, while on the other it fully fits into the Russian poetic tradition thanks to its flowing, euphonic and elegant style and the constant “attenuation” of the conceptual and linguistic asperities of the original text. After a long period in which Lozinsky’s canonical translation remained undisputed, towards the end of the twentieth century two new complete translations of the "Divine Comedy" into Russian were published. Aleksandr Iliushin’s translation (1995) adopts the syllabic meter instead of the traditional iambic pentameter. The translation by Vladimir Marantsman (1999), in controversy with Lozinsky aims at the «greatest possible precision», valuing the linguistic variety of the original, but avoiding the use of archaisms and offering contemporary readers a text they are invited to explore freely. Finally, already in the twenty-first century, Ol’ga Sedakova translated two cantos of Purgatorio and one of Paradiso, renouncing a metric version in order to give «an interlinear translation as faithful as possible» of the theological contents of the poem, often ignored or trivialized in previous translations. It is evident at this point that against the background of the discussion about “world literature” there also arises the problem of the re-translation of Dante’s text, or of the revision of its pre-existing canon or canons in Russian culture
Notes on the Beginning of the Myth of Khlebnikov in Italy
Against the background of Marinetti's visit to Russia, a review of the articles that deal with it in the Italian press is made. We focus on Zanetti’s article, published in the “Giornale d'Italia” on March 5th, 1914, in which Khlebnikov’s thoughts are effectively summarized despite
the evident skepticism of the journalist. We then move on to the article by the Italian futurist Settimelli published in the journal “L’Italia futurista” in March 1917, in which Khlebnikov's ‘prophecy’ on the fall of an empire in 1917 is enthusiastically recalled and interpreted here in an anti-German sense. This is the beginning of the Khlebnikov myth in Italy, a myth, however, which will remain ‘buried’ for several years, until Poggioli first and then Ripellino took it up again and brought it to the attention of the cultured reading public in Italy. This process culminated in Ripellino’s translation of Khlebnikov's poems and his presentation of the poet and of his poetics in 1968. This publication profoundly influenced the reception of Khlebnikov and his myth in Italy
Письма А. Е. Парниса к Н. С. Травушкину. 1970–1984 гг.
[Pis'ma A.E. Parnisa k N.S. Travushkinu. 1970-1984 gg.] Velimir Khlebnikov’s name was long forgotten. It took a great effort of some people, faithful to Khlebnikov's precept to “sow the eyes”, for a series of events to take place, contributing to the official recognition of the poet first in narrow and then in wide circles. A. E. Parnis, a Khlebnikov scholar of international renown, corresponded with Professor N. S. Travushkin of the Astrakhan Pedagogical Institute for more than ten years. Letters sent from Moscow and Kiev to Astrakhan from 1970 to 1984 are evidence of the way in which A. E. Parnis explored the topic “Khlebnikov and Astrakhan”. In addition to discovering and attributing several texts of the head of the Futurians, especially in the newspaper “Red Warrior”, and finding the true birthplace of the poet, A. E. Parnis is the mastermind behind the Khlebnikov readings in Astrakhan, which were first organized by N. S. Travushkin on his suggestion. Besides, A. E. Parnis found the poet’s relatives and established friendly relations with the descendants of the Khlebnikov family, drew the public’s attention to the need for a memorial plaque on the house where the Khlebnikovs lived, and for many years sought publications about Velimir in the Astrakhan press
Gender Equality in Organizational Decisions in Spain: Are We Making Progress?
The underrepresentation of women in male-dominated labor markets is often linked to biased perceptions of their capabilities. In recent decades, Spain has advanced significantly in including women in political and economic roles. This study examines how these shifts impact perceptions of women’s abilities and managerial decisions (i.e. hiring and task assignments). We conducted an online experiment with a representative sample of the Spanish population (N=806), focusing on the effects of age and gender. Results show either gender equality or positive discrimination favouring women. Additionally, age positively influences hiring decisions, likely due to shifting beliefs as workplace exposure to women increases. Evidence from a new Spanish sample (N=1,450) supports this mechanism through the contact hypothesis, indicating that increased exposure to women in the workplace reduces gender bias among older male employers. To test whether results are specific to Spain, we conducted a robustness check with a representative sample from Italy (N=1,450), a country with similar culture but differing gender equality trends. The findings were consistent. These age-related patterns underscore the importance of workplace characteristics in shaping employment decisions and offer insights for strategies to foster inclusion and reduce gender discrimination
Phenotypic parameters, gene expression and calprotectin level in high salt‑fed stroke‑prone spontaneously hypertensive rats
This dataset contains data for a study in which a high-salt/low-potassium stroke permissive diet (Japanese Diet; JD) was fed to Spontaneously Hypertensive Stroke Prone Rats (SHRSPs) and to Spontaneously Hypertensive Stroke Resistant Rats (SHRSRs). A Regular Diet (RD) was used as control diet. Specifically, for SHRSP and SHRSR rats fed with JD or RD are reported: (1) phenotypic parameters data (body weight, proteinuria and blood pressure), (2) perivascular and glomerular fibrosis (% area) data, (3) ZO-1, Ocln, Actb, GAPDH and Pgk1 gene expression data in the small intestine, (4) data about serum calprotectin levels.
We examined the inflammatory status of the animals by measuring serum calprotectin levels, and the gut barrier integrity by assessing gene expression of the tight-junction proteins zonulin (ZO-1) and occludin (Ocln) after 4 weeks of diet (short-term; ST) or until stroke occurrence for a maximum of 10 weeks (long-term; LT). Phenotypic parameters as body weight (BW), proteinuria, blood pressure (BP) and perivascular-glomerular fibrosis (% area) were measured. The BW of the two different strains fed RD increase with a similar trend, while the BW growth of SHRSP fed JD is significantly lower than SHRSR from the 5th week of diet. After 4 weeks, proteinuria level was significantly increased in SHRSPs JD-ST compared to RD-fed SHRSPs, and continued to increase throughout JD administration. Systolic blood pressure (BP) was not different among the four groups after 4 week of diet but increased significantly over time in both SHRSRs JD-LT and SHRSPs JD-LT (see file SHRSP_JapaneseDiet_PhenotypicParameters_23082024.csv). Perivascular and glomerular fibrosis significantly increased in SHRSPs, but not SHRSRs, fed JD for 4 weeks compared with the corresponding controls fed RD (see file SHRSP_JapaneseDiet_Fibrosis_23082024.csv).
Although SHRSPs carry a vasculitis-like cerebrovascular damage, no strain/diet-related significant differences in serum calprotectin levels were detected among experimental groups (see file SHRSP_JapaneseDiet_SerumCalprotectin_23082024.csv). For the gene expression of the tight-junction proteins all samples were analyzed in duplicate. RT-qPCR assays were carried out for the target genes ZO-1 and Ocln and three different reference genes, Actb (Actin beta), GAPDH (Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase) and Pgk1 (Phosphoglycerate kinase 1). The duplicates were averaged, then ZO-1 and Ocln mRNA data were normalized based on the geometric mean of the Ct of the three reference genes (ΔCt = Ctmean ref. genes – Ctinterest gene). For each strain, the relative gene expression of the studied genes in JD-fed animals was calculated as fold change using the 2−ΔΔCt method in relation to the RD T0 time point (ΔΔCt = ΔCtT0 JD or T1 JD–ΔCtT0 RD). Undetectable RT-qPCR Cts were assigned a value of 40 to avoid overestimation of means.
In our study, ZO-1 expression did not change between the two rat strains on the two diets. In contrast, Ocln expression was significantly lower in SHRSPs compared to SHRSRs upon RD and increased in a time-dependent manner only in JD-fed SHRSPs, suggesting a strain-dependent interaction with the diet (see file SHRSP_JapaneseDiet_GeneExpression_23082024.csv)

The book is dedicated to describing the effects of the massive influx of people from Ukraine, which started from February 2022 due to the ongoing war in Ukraine. The material presented ranges from general issues related to the regulation of the mass influx to studies on national mechanisms supporting displaced persons in terms of social entitlements and access to the labour market
The Impact of a Peer-to-Peer Mentoring Program on University Choices and Performance
We study the impact of a personalized mentoring program on university enrollment choices and academic outcomes. Conducting a randomized controlled trial among 337 high school students, we find that the program significantly influences students' decisions, increasing the likelihood of choosing a field aligned with their mentor's by 22 percentage points, representing a 45% increase from the baseline. Notably, the program also shifts preferences towards STEM/Economics fields, enhancing prospective wages by 3.1-3.7%, without negatively impacting university performance. These findings underscore the mentorship's potential to guide students towards more informed and beneficial educational choices
