Voltaire traduttore di Dante
VOLTAIRE TRANSLATING DANTE. Considering the authority that Voltaire enjoyed in his time, it should not be surprising that even one of his most negligible texts such as the Lettre sur le Dante, which appeared in 1756, aroused very lively reactions from some Italian men of letters, who set themselves up as defenders of outraged national honor. In fact, in addition to presenting a short translation essay of around fifty verses of Inferno’s Canto XXVII, here Voltaire expressed judgments on Dante’s style and poem that sounded disrespectful and hasty. The aim of this paper is to understand the reasons and the stakes of this dusty controversy
Narrazioni leggendarie italo-spagnole come base per la costruzione del mito fondativo delle mafie: implicazioni giuridiche e letterarie nel contesto urbano contemporaneo
[Italo-Spanish legendary narratives as the foundation for constructing the myth of the mafia: legal and literary implications in the contemporary urban context] – The common foundation of the Italian Southern mafias, according to popular legends still widely spread today, begins with the shipwreck of three Spanish brothers off the coast of Favignana Island in the 15th century. These legends constitute an attempt to culturally legitimise a non-state legal system that inherently stands in clear opposition to the State. The three brothers, noble knights, members of the powerful Spanish brotherhood Hermandad de la Garduña, according to the legendary narrative, were fleeing Spain due to a crime of honour. In our research, we will focus on the origins of the legends, their connections to Spanish and Italian literary traditions, their sociological implications, the motivations behind their construction, the dissemination and use of the legends until they achieve mythical status, and above all, the relationship of the legendary narrative with the contemporary development of the Italian mafia. Indeed, despite the now predominantly urban or suburban scenario in which mafia organisations operate, the appeal of the deeds of the three knights – strategically idealised – seems to remain strong. The legal tools in the fight against mafias, therefore, cannot be limited to the punitive sphere but must foster a cultural renewal of the social fabric most exposed to the actions of mafia organisations
Хлебниковедение: размышления об истории и о будущем в год 100-летия бессмертия поэта
[Khlebnikovedenie: razmyshleniia ob istorii i o budushchem v god 100-letiia bessmertiia poeta] This article reflects on the present and future of Velimir Khlebnikov studies in Russia and abroad. The article provides examples of different types of events dedicated to Khlebnikov in Russia and other countries in the world, as
well as examples of information portals that are dedicated to the works of the great Russian poet. The article also presents a project developed by the author of this article and devoted to Khlebnikov – an unconventional edition of an
album on occasion of the three memorable dates: the 130th anniversary of the birth of Velimir Khlebnikov, the 75th anniversary of the birth of Gennady Glinin and the 30th anniversary of the International Khlebnikov Readings in
Astrakhan. In conclusion, the author shares her views regarding the future of Khlebnikov studies and why it may be of interest to the modern generation
Experiments with Universal Language from the 1910s to the 1930s: Velimir Khlebnikov, the Gordin Brothers, and the “Kosmoglot” Society
This paper deals with the concepts of “universal language” common in linguistics and in the poetic Avant-garde in the period from the 1910s to the 1930s. During that period, sociopolitical reforms gave rise to new realia and concepts, which required an updated vocabulary. “Language construction” was important both for peoples with no written languages and for future international communication in the context of faith in world revolution. These factors underlie not only the renewal of language policies, but also the creation of universal languages by linguists and poets. Interlinguistics was developing during these years; within which the “Kosmoglot” society played an important role. Among the Avant-garde concepts, Khlebnikov’s “star-language” and the Gordin brothers’ “cosmic language of AO” are of particular importance. The Gordin brothers followed Khlebnikov but went further in their search for cognitive and linguo-social changes. This paper compares these linguistic and poetic universal languages and concludes that the orientation towards linguistic experiment in the period in question was paramount for scholars and poets alike
Античность в авангарде: о диалогах Велимира Хлебникова
[Antichnost' v avangarde: o dialogakh V. Khlebnikova] This article examines the works that Khlebnikov composed in a dialogical form. Except for a single case, which has been the subject of a thorough critical study, no other text belonging to this group has been examined with the same attention. The scarcity of scholarly sources can be justified by the small number of Khlebnikov’s dialogues. The purpose of this paper is therefore to shed light on his dialogic works: these texts remain in the background of our
comprehension of Khlebnikov, despite their extraordinary richness
Gender equality norms across generations: Evidence from a representative sample
Using a representative survey of the Italian population (N=1,501), we elicit gender norms regarding the sharing of domestic chores within couples, employing the methodology of Krupka and Weber (2013). Two vignettes present hypothetical scenarios in which the partners’ labor supply, chore allocations, and the gender of the partner proposing a specific chore allocation vary. Participants are asked to rate the social appropriateness of different chore allocations across scenarios that combine these dimensions. We find evidence of a framing effect and a gender double standard among the middle and older generations, but not among the younger generation, in which we observe a decline in adherence to the ’male breadwinner’ model. These findings suggest that the younger generation is endorsing a more progressive gender norms. We also show that perceived social norms display a significant association with women’s labor market outcomes based on administrative data at the regional level

Dataset and raw data for Microplastics exacerbate proteobacteria colonization of the large intestine
The file Microplastics_Exacerbate_ProteobacteriaColonization_LargeIntestine_Data.ods contains a comprehensive data related to the impact of microplastics (MPs) on gut microbiota composition, specifically focusing on the colonization of Proteobacteria in the large intestine. This dataset provides crucial insights into how microplastics influence microbial populations, including both beneficial and detrimental microbes, as well as correlations between different variables. The file contains the following data: (1) raw concentration data of microplastics (MPs) detected in the study. It includes detailed measurements of MP levels across different conditions, serving as the foundation for assessing their impact on gut microbiota. These data are essential for understanding the extent of MP exposure and its potential biological effects; (2) data on the abundance of beneficial microbes in the large intestine, an overview of how key gut-friendly bacterial populations respond to microplastic exposure, helping to evaluate whether MPs disrupt the balance of health-promoting microbes and to what extent their presence is altered under different experimental conditions; (3) data on the abundance of detrimental microbes, particularly those associated with gut dysbiosis and inflammation. The data highlights how microplastic exposure correlates with an increase in potentially harmful bacterial taxa, including Proteobacteria, which have been linked to gut health disorders; (4) data from correlation analyses, exploring relationships between microplastic concentration, microbial composition, and other relevant variables. These correlations provide valuable insights into how MPs might be driving changes in gut microbiota, whether through direct interactions or indirect environmental modifications. This dataset serves as a critical resource for understanding the role of microplastics in shaping gut microbial ecosystems. By analyzing these data, researchers can gain deeper insights into the potential risks associated with MP exposure and its implications for gut health

Invalid proxies and volatility changes
When in proxy-SVARs the covariance matrix of VAR disturbances is subject to exogenous, permanent, nonrecurring breaks that generate target impulse response functions (IRFs) that change across volatility regimes, even strong, exogenous external instruments can result in inconsistent estimates of the dynamic causal effects of interest if the breaks are not properly accounted for. In such cases, it is essential to explicitly incorporate the shifts in unconditional volatility in order to point-identify the target structural shocks and possibly restore consistency. We demonstrate that, under a necessary and sufficient rank condition that leverages moments implied by changes in volatility, the target IRFs can be point-identified and consistently estimated. Importantly, standard asymptotic inference remains valid in this context despite (i) the covariance between the proxies and the instrumented structural shocks being local-to-zero, as in Staiger and Stock (1997), and (ii) the potential failure of instrument exogeneity. We introduce a novel identification strategy that appropriately combines external instruments with "informative" changes in volatility, thus obviating the need to assume proxy relevance and exogeneity in estimation. We illustrate the effectiveness of the suggested method by revisiting a fiscal proxy-SVAR previously estimated in the literature, complementing the fiscal instruments with information derived from the massive reduction in volatility observed in the transition from the Great Inflation to the Great Moderation regimes
