ECLIPSE. WP1 Task 1.1. Breakable Ru complex for bead ECL signal enhancement
The present dataset includes data generated as part of the ECLipse project, focusing on the electrochemiluminescence (ECL) behavior of magnetic microbeads covalently functionalized with a stimuli-responsive derivative of [Ru(bpy)3]2+. The reduction-sensitive disulfide bridge, that links the luminophore to the bead, gets cleaved upon reaction with the neutral TPrA radical, releasing the luminophore in solution and activating the homogeneous mechanism. These microbeads were studied under a microscope on glassy carbon (GC) and Pt substrates at different concentrations of TPrA. Further experiments were conducted on a different kind of beads, that mimick a real bead-based immunoassay. Their ECL response to progressively higher concentration of Ru(II) labels was assessed to simulate calibration curves on commercial immunoassays
Metabolome of dairy cows affected by subclinical intramammary infection
The present database describes the serum metabolome of dairy cows that are healthy or affected by subclinical intramammary infection. The metabolome has been analyzed by 1H-NMR at 600 MHz. The signals have been assigned by Chenomx software and quantified by relying on an internal standard. Potential differences in water content across samples have been considered by probabilistic quotient normalization
The Economics of Obituaries
Obituaries are traditionally seen as expressions of grief and remembrance. We argue that they also have an underappreciated economic role: they are vehicles for strategic social and economic signaling. In this paper, we develop a simple theoretical framework in which paid obituaries serve as a form of self-promotion for the authors, especially when the deceased is a prominent public figure. We then test this hypothesis using data from Italy, exploiting the variation in mortality caused by the COVID-19 pandemic as a natural experiment. We show that higher mortality rates are associated with increases in per-capita obituaries, driven not by informational needs but by strategic advertising motives. Our results suggest that obituaries function as a marketplace for visibility and status, where social and economic incentives intersect
Parallel Heritage: Cross-gazes on the Cultural Heritage of Una Europa Universities
This study explores the heritage of the eight universities which formed the Una Europa alliance in 2021: Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna, Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University, the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, the Complutense University of Madrid, KU Leuven, the University of Edinburgh, the University of Helsinki and the Freie University Berlin. As our current understanding of university heritage goes beyond university collections and museums, this study sets up six categories to describe the heritage of the participating institutions: ‘History of the university’, ‘Built Heritage’, ‘Museums and Collections’,‘Ceremonies, Traditions, and Other Elements of Intangible Heritage’, ‘The Management of University Collections’ and ‘Digital Heritage’. By breaking down their heritage in this way this study facilitates the comparison between these institutions and the ways heritage is
approached by each of them
From Fragments to Form. Multidisciplinary Approaches to the Reconstruction of Past Works of Art
This volume investigates the reconstruction of past works of art as a philologically grounded endeavor. Exploring the passage from fragment to form, it moves from partial traces to a perspective that sheds light on earlier artistic practices — the aim is not totality, but a careful understanding of cultural heritage, though marked by gaps and transformations. Contributions from diverse disciplines resonate with one another, revealing shared challenges and methodological affinities. Far from nostalgia, the essays show how reconstruction illuminates both past and present, fostering a meaningful dialogue with History
Dataset of the article "Combining circulating tumor cell and circulating cell free DNA analyses enhances liquid biopsy sensitivity in detecting high grade serous tubo-ovarian carcinoma"
Liquid biopsy is a promising strategy for detecting and monitoring neoplastic diseases, with circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) being the most common objects of investigation. Most laboratories are focusing on these biomarkers separately and simultaneous detection has not yet been attempted in high grade serous tubo-ovarian carcinoma (HGSOC). This dataset comprises raw data obtained in the study in which we assess whether tandem CTC/ctDNA approach increases HGSOC detection efficiency.
We developed specific liquid biopsy assays, all based on nucleic acid analyses. For CTC detection, we tested gene expression assays and TP53 next-generation sequencing (NGS), whereas the latter was also applied for ctDNA detection.
The assays were then verified on two HGSOC cohorts and respective controls, demonstrating the complementary value of simultaneous CTC and cfDNA analysis in HGSOC.
Specifically, this dataset contains (i) raw data obtained from all quantitative Real-Time PCR analyses, (ii) Sanger sequencing of patient germ-line tissue to confirm tumor-specific mutations, and (iii) microscopic images of the Parsortix-enriched ovarian cancer cells spiked in the healthy donor blood sample
