L'apprendimento per imitazione: modelli generali e specificità

    Get PDF

Constructing AcTive CitizensHip with European Youth. Policies, Practices, Challenges and Solutions. D7.2 Findings of wave 1. A cross-national report

    Get PDF
This deliverable of the H2020 CATCH-EyoU project sets out to address open questions concerning factors associated with youth’s active EU citizenship. In particular, assumed (directions of) influences of relevant factors and their joint workings will be examined among adolescents and young adults in various situations of life, across different EU countries representing variations in, e.g., economic situation/crisis, political conditions, and history as an EU member state. At the core is a longitudinal assessment using a two-wave questionnaire including a large sample of young people from all countries of the consortium. The present report summarizes the results of the first wave of data collection. The aim of this technical report is to provide an overview over sample characteristics and psychometric properties of measures based on the revisions after the pilot assessment. It includes descriptive and inferential findings of each national data set. All teams collected data from a quite diverse sample of young people from their respective country. We achieved the targeted sample sizes due to our improved recruitment strategies (based on our experiences from the pilot assessment). More precisely, we could attract more than 10,400 young people to participate in our study (concrete numbers depend on sample selection). Since we initially set out to reach at least 6,400 young people, we were quite successful in our recruitment. Paper-and pencil as well as online modes of assessment proved to be equally effective

Life Cycle Consumption and the Great Recession

    No full text
Using Italian Household Budget Survey data for the period 1997-2013, this paper estimates the life cycle profiles of consumption and cross-sectional variance in the Great Recession. The study examines age profiles for total and durable expenditure, and four subcomponents of non-durable expenditure. We document significant heterogeneity in the way the recession affects consumption and the variance within-cohorts. The crisis has entailed a fall in expenditure for the youngest cohorts, and a notable reduction of inequalities for the middle and oldest cohorts with some differences between high and low income elastic expenditure. We also found that socio-demographic factors account for a substantial heterogeneity in consumption behaviour during the recession across households and expenditure subcomponents

    No full text

New strategies towards nearly zero energy in existing buildings: the ABRACADABRA project.

    Get PDF
ABRACADABRA is an European Project funded by the Horizon 2020 Program, based on the assumption that substantial increase in the real estate value of the existing buildings can play a key role in the deep renovation. The project aims at demonstrating to the key stakeholders and financial investors the attractiveness of a new renovation strategy based on volumetric Abstract Add-ons and Renewable energy sources (AdoRES) intended as one (or a set of) Assistant Building unit(s) – like aside or façade additions, rooftop extensions or even an entire new building construction – that “adopt” the existing buildings (the Assisted District heating networks are commonly addressed in the literature as one of the most effective solutions for decreasing the Buildings) to achieve nearly zero energy. The creation of these AdoRES aims at reducing the initial investment allocated for the greenhouse gas emissions from the building sector. These systems require high investments which are returned through the heat deep renovation of the existing building creating an up-grading synergy between old and new. The ABRA strategy can thus result sales. Due to the changed climate conditions and building renovation policies, heat demand in the future could decrease, in the implementation of a punctual densification policy that aims at fostering the investments in deep renovation of the existing prolonging the investment return period. built environment, driving process innovation in the construction and the real estate sector. The main scope of this paper is to assess the feasibility of using the heat demand – outdoor temperature function for heat demand The paper, after outlining the main aspect of the project, focuses on a case study in Italian context, where different technological forecast. The district of Alvalade, located in Lisbon (Portugal), was used as a case study. The district is consisted of 665 solutions and related economic impact are analysed: from a deep renovation to AdoRES strategies and different scenarios of buildings that vary in both construction period and typology. Three weather scenarios (low, medium, high) and three district renovation. The preliminary feasibility study and cost assessment, show the benefit given by the presented strategy in renovation scenarios were developed (shallow, intermediate, deep). To estimate the error, obtained heat demand values were overcoming actual financial e technical barriers

PERCEIVE project - Deliverable D4.1 "Report on Urban policies for building smart cities"

    No full text
This report begins by introducing the term ‘smart city’ buttressed by some critical consideration of the several definitions that are proffered in the extant literature. Then, the conceptual evolution of the ‘smart city’ construct is set out with reference to smart (city) policies implemented in the EU, mapped with reference to the results of a Boolean web search exercise. This analysis helps to systematically unveil the narrative used by practitioners and policy makers in shaping the perception of smart city policies and projects. Finally, a new index of smartness is implemented based on Stochastic Multicriteria Acceptability Analysis (SMAA). The new index will consider both objective measures and citizens’ perceptions of key dimensions offering value in assessing ‘smartness’ in city projects and policies

Hierarchical non-linear mixed-effects models for estimating growth parameters of western Mediterranean solitary coral populations

    Get PDF
Marine biologists usually assess coral growth through the von Bertalanffy growth function (VBGF), a func-tion of several biological parameters linked to age by a non-linear relationship. Coral growth parameters are then evaluated via ordinary least squares after a linear transformation of the VBGF. Current litera-ture focuses on linearization techniques, but these methods are often used without considering a careful data examination and the presence of variability in coral of the same age or in coral of the same colony. For these reasons, a more thorough approach based on a hierarchical non-linear mixed-effects model is proposed. This model takes into account the influence of sites’ characteristics to model heterogeneity between sites. Moreover, the contribution of environmental factors and all the reliable information that may influence coral growth can be suitably modelled. Two model specifications based on the standard and new VBGF parameterizations are introduced to analyse the growth of a solitary coral species Bal-anophyllia europaea. Results from the proposed modelling approach show the importance of including environmental conditions for species coral growth and support; furthermore, the results show the impor-tance of the possibility of accounting for variability from different sources in terms of estimated growth curves

Building a firm level dataset for the analysis of industrial dynamics and demography

    No full text
This paper illustrates the building procedure of a firm-level panel dataset that merges several sources of information concerning the various activities of business firms. The aim of this work is to achieve a detailed dataset able to shed light on firm demographics, in terms of survival, entry and exit processes, distinguishing between “voluntary" and “involuntary" exits. Moreover, the derived dataset allows to monitor the innovation activities of the firms and also to capture complementarities between two instruments of intellectual property rights (IPRs), namely granted patents and registered trademarks. We assess the validity of the proposed procedures resorting to the virtual universe of Italian limited liability companies as provided by Bureau van Dijk (BvD). The dataset covers more than 1 million companies operating in both manufacturing and service sectors and contain financial and economic information, as well as, among the others, the ownership structure and administrative procedures undergone by the firms, which may lead to firm exit. The main purpose of the paper is to provide a unified set of procedures to help the researcher dealing with the vast amount of information available on corporate firms and of ever increasing size. This will also facilitate the replication of empirical analyses, across researchers working on dataset with similar characteristics, although from different countries or data providers

Relative tax in a vertically differentiated market: the key role of consumers in environment

    No full text
In this paper, under the assumption that green consumption has (at least partially) a social/psychological dimension, we analyse the effect of a carbon tax when it is imposed on consumers buying dirty products rather than on polluting firms. The amount of the tax paid is determined by the share of brown consumers in the market and the quality gap between variants. We show that this tax can abate emissions without inducing the undesirable relocation effect which can be observed in the case when a unilateral climate policy is imposed on polluting producers

    No full text
