Remote Home Physical Training for Seniors: Guidelines from the AAL-supported MOTION project
European population will face an unprecedented ageing era in the next years.
Albeit ageing in itself is a success goal, it may bringwith it a general decline and functional limitations. In order to decelerate such decline, one of the most efficient strategies is physical activity.
The present paper reports the insight emerging from three focus-group interviews organized at the beginning
of the MOTION - Remote Home Physical Training for Seniors project, whose main aim regarded the implementation of an ICT system capable to offer home-based gym sessions to healthy seniors.
The sixteen interview participants (11 females and 5 males, averaged age 72.3) provided several indications, which were grouped into the following themes: 1) ICT technical characteristics; 2) Platform accessibility; 3) Physical program features; 4) Psychological factors.
At the end of the thematic analysis, results suggest that theoretical frameworks mainly focusing on ICT issues might be insufficient to endorse the successful development and maintenance of ICT systems such as MOTION, which challenges seniors to accept ICT while staying committed to the physical exercise program
LCA and CBA of the lab-scale irrigation technologies
This report is part of the European Horizon 2020 project MADFORWATER, which aims to develop solutions to enhance water efficiency in Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt. Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA) and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) are used together with considerations about the technological performance and social acceptance of the technology in the target country, in order to select technologies that will be optimized and scaled up for the field pilots. The CBA provides insight into the economic performance of the different technologies for the field pilots, the LCA into the environmental burdens and benefits. In particular, this deliverable focuses on the WP3 technologies for irrigation
Photocatalytic hydroxyapatite-titania nanocomposites for preventive conservation of marble
Soiling of external surfaces is an increasing issue for conservation of architectural
heritage. Providing architectural surfaces with self-cleaning ability is one of the most promising
routes of preventive conservation. To this aim, several methods have been proposed in the
literature, based on the use of photocatalytic TiO2 nanoparticles, either directly applied onto the
surfaces or incorporated in protective coatings. However, when nano-TiO2 is directly applied
onto architectural surfaces, the particles are easily removed by rain. When TiO2 is incorporated
in polymeric coatings, durability issues arise as well, because the photoactivity of TiO2
nanoparticles can promote degradation of the polymer. Here, we present an innovative
alternative method, based on combination of TiO2 nanoparticles and hydroxyapatite (HAP). The
incorporation of nano-TiO2 into an HAP coating protects the nanoparticles from leaching by rain,
thanks to the chemical bonding between TiO2 and HAP, without diminishing their photoactivity.
As a result, marble treated with HAP-TiO2 composites exhibits high self-cleaning ability and
high durability, with results superior to those achieve by direct application of nano-TiO2 onto the
surface, as frequently performed on site
Civic Capital and Service Outsourcing: Evidence from Italy
This paper studies whether civic capital (those persistent shared beliefs and values that help a group overcome the free rider problem in the pursuit of socially valuable activities) acts an effective restraint against opportunistic behavior in transactions by looking at the firm-level degree of service outsourcing in Italy. Our results show that firms tend to outsource more services in areas where civic capital is higher. We claim that the rise in the propensity to engage in transactions with outside service suppliers stems from the decrease in opportunism between the parties involved. We consider a dynamic specification which allows to disentangle state dependence of service out- sourcing from firm-level heterogeneity, and we use historical instruments to address the potential endogeneity of civic capital
Review of the use of economic instruments in water management in Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia
The Deliverable 5.1 (D5.1) of MADFORWATER project “Review of the use of economic instruments in water management in Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia” aims at exploring the use of economic instruments and policies in the current water management approaches in Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia. Particularly, special attention has been payed to the adoption of the principles of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM), such as the consideration of equity and efficiency issues and the introduction of economic principles in water management
Water stress and Water Vulnerability indicators and maps
This report is related to the MADFORWATER Task 1.2 "Analysis and mapping of Water Stress, Water Vulnerability and potential for water reuse in Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia". The aim of this study is to provide a basis for assessing measures that can improve the agricultural water productivity with a special focus on increasing the re-use of wastewater in agriculture.

[The Vocation of St. Matteo: sin and taxes] The paper focuses on the Vocation of St. Matteo by Caravaggio to analyse original relationship between tax collectors and tax payers, with the purpose to elaborate a critical point of view about the ethical foundation of the tax obligation. This picture reproduces and updates the diffused feeling of aversion against tax collectors, representing the contributor’s distrust toward Revenue. To effectively combat evasion an ethical foundation of the tax obligation must be posed as well as and loyalty obligations also for officials of the financial administration
