Get PDFThis deliverable outlines the dissemination and communication tools and activities implemented over the three-year period since that start of MADFORWATER aimed to communicate project activities and results to stakeholders and the wider audience. This revised and updated Dissemination and Communication Plan includes the initiatives related to project duration and is also to be considered as a guide to support the consortium to carry out the dissemination activities using the right material and channels. The document also looks at the dissemination and communication materials realized and those still to be achieved, including: project website and social media, press releases, project leaflet, videos, newsletters, presentations, journal articles, attendance at (non)academic events, stakeholder consultation workshops and interaction with other projects and forums. Furthermore, an evaluation of performance against the Key Performance Indicators (as set in the Grant Agreement) is added
The assessment of research quality / La valutazione della qualità della ricerca
Get PDFA reflection on the research quality assessment process in the Italian academia is provided. It is argued that both the general logic and several specific technical details of the current assessment process is inconsistent with the evidence that decades of organizational research have shown on the most common organizational solutions adopted by companies and research centers that are able to systematically generate significant levels of knowledge production and innovation. It is also argued that a system like the current one will create, in the medium-long term, serious negative consequences on the Italian research system, both in cultural and behavioral terms. A few suggestions about how to change the assessment system are provided
Experimental procedure for the technical characterization of an innovative plant for seabed management in harbour’s areas
Get PDFThe main purpose of this paper is the description of the components and of the experimental procedure to be followed for the characterization of an innovative device, i.e. the ejector, for seabed management in harbour’s areas. The paper is divided in the following sections. After a brief overview of the state of the art in which criticalities of existing technologies are highlighted, a technical comparison is also performed respect to the technology developed by the Department of Industrial Engineering of the University of Bologna. In the second part of the paper, a detailed description of the main components and of the experimental procedure followed by test the device in the laboratory is reported. Lastly, conclusions about the experimental procedure are presented
Adding nanofillers in polymeric insulating materials: so far so good? The case of polypropylene for DC cables
Get PDFThis paper has the purpose to point at the weaknesses implicit in nanostructuration of insulating polymers for cable insulation, with reference to polypropylene and nanosilica. It also tries to single out which types of properties would be more or less affected by nanofiller introduction, and if in a positive or negative way, depending on nanofiller functionalization process. It is shown, for example, that nanofiller might increase, rather than decrease, space charge and conduction current, as an effect of functionalization, and that a decrease of space charge is not necessarily correlated to an increase of life

Legal Change in the Face of Risk Averse Subjects: A Generalization of the Theory
Get PDFThis study investigates the optimal nature of law making under uncertainty. I focus on a case in which a harmful activity will be subjected to some regulatory measures (a standard, exposure to liability, or a corrective tax). The benefits and costs of precaution are ex-ante uncertain, and this places a risk burden on both injurers and victims. The optimal policy should, at the same time, strike a balance between benefits and costs of the measures, and attenuate the ex-ante risk. Whether measures should be made stronger or softer depends on the size and the sign of the shocks affecting the parties (positive or negative) and their disposition towards risk. With corrective taxes, it also depends on the elasticity of precautions with respect to the tax rate
