Dossier. Dignifying and Undignified Narratives in and of (the) Law. Proceeding of the IVR World Congress 2019 WS Law and Narrative

    Get PDF
This special dossier is the result of a Law and Narrative Workshop which took place at the University of Lucerne in the context of the IVR World Congress 2019. It collects papers of law and humanities scholars coming from Australia, Brazil, Holland, Italy, Switzerland and the United States. The authors apply in creative ways the lens of narrative to investigate the broader IVR theme of the relations between dignity, democracy and diversity, by reinforcing our conviction that nowadays ‘narrative’ should be considered not only a critical tool and means to interpret legal texts, but also a significant legal category that plays a crucial role in the processes of legal adjudication, case resolution, and social inclusion and exclusion

This dataset contains the underlying qualitative data of the following article published in the journal Frontiers in Political Science: Tzankova, I., Albanesi, A., & Cicognani, E. (2021). Perceived school characteristics fostering civic engagement among adolescents in Italy. Frontiers in Political Science. https://doi.org/10.3389/fpos.2021.611824 The dataset consists of textual qualitative data collected in Italy within Work Package 6 of the research project CATCH EyoU (Constructing AcTive CitizensHip with European YOUth: Policies, Practices, Challenges and Solutions). It consists of 513 quotations from 10 focus groups with 101 adolescents between 16 and 20 years old. Students participated in the study on a voluntary basis and were requested to read and sign an informed consent form prior to participating (for minors the consent was preliminarily asked also to parents). The data is an extract from the raw Italian dataset and was used in the analysis of students’ perspectives on the mechanisms and limitations of democratic school characteristics outside of the formal curriculum (democratic school climate, student participation and critical reflection at school) in promoting civic engagement. It contains an identifier for each focus group discussion and the extracted quotations from verbal transcripts. The data has been fully anonymized. This data is made available for open access in compliance with H2020 Program regulation, following the guidelines stipulated by the Data Management Plan adopted by the CATCH-EyoU research project

Rider at work: una lettura multidisciplinare

    Get PDF
The debate on the problems of light-delivery rider work and, more in general, of the work in the gig economy, is rich and extensive. The problems posed to the interpretation of these increasingly relevant phenomena are numerous and exposed to changes both on the supply and demand side. However, they can be traced back to the configuration of the subjects at work, of the work activity, of the enterprises involved. This ebook presents contributions addressing these issues from different disciplinary points of view. The proposed interpretations allow useful comparisons and may constitute the beginning of a broader and more articulated discussion

Sprache, Identität und Erinnerung - Sprachbiographische Untersuchungen italienischer StudentInnen. Zur Einführung

    Get PDF

    No full text

Unconventional Monetary Policy in the Euro Area: A Tale of Three Shocks

    Get PDF
High-frequency (HF) surprises of relevant asset prices around central bank meetings are extensively employed in the literature to identify the effects of conventional/unconventional monetary policy. This identification strategy assumes that these surprises reflect either a single unconventional ‘monetary shock’ or, as recently suggested, jointly an unconventional monetary shock and a central bank ‘information shock’. In this paper we show that monetary policy in the euro area after 2008 is best characterized by three shocks, not two. Besides the unconventional monetary shock and the information shock, we consider a third shock resulting from the ECB directly managing fragmentation risk in the sovereign bond market. We call this additional shock ‘spread shock’, and show that it permits to solve a puzzle we observe in HF comovement of long term risk free rates and sovereign spreads around press conferences. We identify the dynamic causal effects produced by the three shocks through a proxy-SVAR methodology which, using HF surprises of the euro area risk-free yield curve, stock prices and sovereign spreads, combines sign-restrictions with narrative restrictions and then extracts external variables (instruments) from an admissible identification set. Empirical results, obtained through a daily proxy-SVAR and Local Projections based on monthly data, reveal that the spread shock represents an important ingredient of the transmission mechanism of the monetary policy after the Global Financial Crisis. It reflects ECB’s attempt to offset self-fulling expectations of default in the euro area sovereign debt markets and behaves as a complement, not a substitute of the information shock
