[EN] Interest in airships has been growing in recent years because of their ability to serve both as stratospheric platforms (High Altitude Pseudo Satellite) and as an alternative for heavy air transportation. Due to this interest, efforts have been made to properly define the dynamic and kinematic models of such vehicles, which requires an adequate knowledge of the dynamic stability derivatives. However, we have noticed that the effect of the selected excitation frequency has been widely underestimated in the literature. Within this work, we prove that the contribution of this effect is highly relevant for the calculation of the dynamic stability derivatives and should not be neglected. By numerically simulating an ellipsoid body under different lateral or pitch forced motions, we found that the resulting stability derivatives can vary by up to 20%. We also found that the selected turbulence model significantly influences the results, especially the lateral stability derivative. These observations emphasize the importance of turbulent and viscous effects in the calculation of dynamic stability derivatives.

The mention of a payment method on a company’s website and its legal qualification as a promotional offer

[EN] This article addresses two legally significant and closely interrelated issues. First, it analyses the scope of the information obligation imposed by Directive 2000/31/EC on electronic commerce with regard to commercial communications, as set forth in Article 6(c). Second, and directly related to the former, it examines the potential classification of a specific payment method —referenced in an advertising communication disseminated by an online operator on its website— as a «promotional offer». As recognized by the Court of Justice of the European Union, the interpretation afforded to these matters is decisive: should the payment method be deemed a «promotional offer», strict compliance with the transparency obligations laid down in the aforementioned provision of the Directive becomes mandatory.S

Effect of static and dynamic core exercises on kicking impact, kicking speed and balance in adolescent taekwondo athletes

[EN] The aim of this study was to determine the effects of static and dynamic core exercises on kicking impact (KI), kicking speed, and balance in adolescent taekwondo athletes. Thirty-three adolescent taekwondo athletes were randomly divided into three groups: static core (SC, n=11), dynamic core (DC, n=11), and control group (CON, n=11). SC and DC group performed core exercise programs in addition to taekwondo training three days a week for eight weeks. KI was determined with the electronic body protector. The frequency speed of kick test (FSKT10s) was applied to kicking speed. The flamingo balance test for static balance (SB) and lower and upper quarter Y-balance test (YBT-LQ & YBT-UQ) for dynamic balance were used. KI increased significantly only on the non-dominant side in the DC group (p=.001). A significant improvement in FSKT10s score was detected in the SC group (dominant, p<.001; non-dominant, p<.001) and the DC group (dominant, p<.001; non-dominant, p<.001). SB score showed a significant decrement in the DC group (dominant, p<.001; non-dominant, p=.010). YBT-LQ significantly improved on the dominant side (SC group, p=.003; DC group, p=<.001), and on the non-dominant side was observed in the SC group (p<.001), and the DC group (p<.001). YBT-UQ showed a significant decrement in the CON group (dominant, p<.001; non-dominant, p<.001) and in the DC group on the non-dominant side (p=.016). SC group and DC group improved FSKT10s and YBT-LQ performance. Additionally, DC group led to a decrement SB scores, and YBT-UQ, but significantly improved KI on the non-dominant side. Therefore, based on the results obtained in this study, core exercises can be recommended in adolescent taekwondo athletes to improve balance and kicking speed, and DC should also be preferred to increase KI and improve static balance performance

On the importance of invasive species niche dynamics in plant conservation management at large and local scale

This article is part of the Research TopicThe Ecological Niche at Different Spatial Scales[EN] Predicting the distribution of Invasive alien species (IAS) using species distribution models is promising for conservation planning. To achieve accurate predictions, it is essential to explore species niche dynamics. New approaches are necessary for bringing this analysis to real conservation management needs. Using multi-site comparisons can provide great useful insights to better understand invasion processes. Exploring the fine-scale niche overlap between IAS and native species sharing a location can be a key tool for achieving the implementation of local species conservation actions, which can play a fundamental role in the global management of IAS. This can also increase society’s awareness of the threat of IAS. In this context, here, we explored two key research demands. First, we studied the large-scale niche dynamics of the invasive species Paraserianthes lophantha (Willd.) I.C. Nielsen’s considering different invaded areas. The analysis compared niches of the native range (South Western Australia) with the Australian invaded range (eastern Australia); the native range with the European invaded range, and its full Australian range (native plus invaded range) with the European invaded range. Second, we perform a fine-scale niche overlap analysis at landscape scale in Spain. We studied the niche overlap between P. lophantha and a species with remarkable conservation interest (Quercus lusitanica Lam). All the niche analyses were realized following a well-established ordination (principal component analysis) approach where important methodological aspects were compared and analyzed. Our multi-site study of P. lophantha large-scale niche dynamics detected niche shifts between the Australian ranges demonstrating that the species is labile and may potentially adapt to further European climate conditions and spread its invasive range. Comparative analysis between the European and the full Australian ranges supports that calibrate models including the Australian invasive information is promising to accurate predict P. lophantha European potential distribution. The fine-scale study of niche overlap further explained the potential of this IAS and can be used as a model example of how these local studies can be used to promote the implementation of conservation actions in situ as a complement to large-scale management strategiesSIThe Consejería de Educación de la Junta de Castilla y León and the European Social Fund through predoctoral grant held by SSG (ORDEN EDU/51100/2017), as well as, the University of León Research Team Taxonomy and Biodiversity Conservation – TaCoBi, partially supported this study.
