A Healthier Community for Generations to Come: Creating Resilient and Equitable Development on Lower 9th Ward Corridors
The Healthier Community for Generations to Come report provides Sankofa Community Development Corporation with programmatic recommendations to assist in the revitalization of the Lower Ninth Ward (LNW). This report draws on extensive research in urban planning best practices to propose strategies that promote economic revitalization, housing sustainability, community health, and environmental resilience. The research was guided by an Urban Land Institute (ULI) Technical Assistance Panel (TAP) which engaged the LNW community to inform recommendations. Sustainability analysis, equity planning, resilience planning, market analysis, and GIS analysis methodologies were employed to create the report. The final report recommendations included a site SWOT, housing framework, main street strategies, and a resilience district model

I will explain my previous knowledge and theories that I brought to the University of New Orleans and run in tandem with the techniques and discoveries I learned during the process of my Master of Fine Arts, both in the classroom and on the stage. Automating Lackenby\u27s Method: The Design of a Set of Scripts to Execute Lackenby\u27s Method with McNaull\u27s Expansion in Rhinoceros 3D
In vessel design, modifying the design of a preexisting hull is a common practice to save time and labor compared to designing a hull from scratch. This can be achieved either by manually adjusting the hull model in a 3D modeling software or by systematically adjusting certain vessel parameters using an algebraic method. However, these methods are time-intensive and do not fully utilize the capabilities of modern software. To address this issue, this paper presents a set of Rhinoscript and Python scripts that automate part of the hull modification process using Lackenby’s method with McNaull’s expansion. The developed code utilizes provided hull offsets (comma-separated values, CSV, file), along with user-input values, to perform the desired Lackenby shift. The resulting modified hull surface is displayed in Rhino alongside the original hull surface. The developed scripts demonstrate the potential of modern software to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of vessel design
It’s Sedimentary! Technocracy and Public Participation in Coastal Restoration
The Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion (MBSD) project in Barataria Bay, Southeast Louisiana, is one of the most ambitious coastal restoration projects in U.S. history. Despite the support of the MBSD project by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority of Louisiana, it is highly unpopular among coastal communities along the Barataria Bay coast and beyond. It is generally accepted that urban planning/ coastal policymaking cannot be effective without the involvement of the most affected groups. For decades, research in urban planning and environmental policymaking has suggested that policies that fail to consider the concerns of local communities are likely to fail. In planning for the MBSD project, the Corps has considered impacts on coastal communities in financial and environmental terms. However, it has been unable to adequately assess the project’s social, cultural, and psychological consequences for coastal communities. By incorporating local knowledge into coastal planning, more sustainable and equitable coastal development strategies can be developed to meet both the needs of local communities and the broader ecosystem. This must involve building partnerships and relationships with local communities, creating new planning methodologies and tools that prioritize local knowledge, and addressing power imbalances that have historically marginalized local communities from the planning process.
