Università e lavoro - Presentazione dei Rapporti STELLA 2008
No full textTwo STELLA (Statistiche in Tema di Laureati e LAvoro) Report presentation events have been held in the current year 2008. The STELLA Report was presented in Palermo (at the Steri palace) on October 20th and in Milan (at the Milan Assolombarda seat) on October 27th. In the Assolombarda seat the specific characteristics of the Lombard reality were examined and discussed. The two conference panel sessions that ended the two events respectively, provided ideas to start dialogs and discussions between industries and companies on one hand and the university world on the other, both at local and national level. The events have been supported by the Ministero dell'Università e della Ricerca. In this paper the two events are shortly presented. Il 20 Ottobre 2008 a Palermo sono stati presentati i Rapporti STELLA a palazzo Steri e il 27 Ottobre 2008 a Milano presso Assolombarda dove sono stati riletti i dati analizzando le peculiarità della realtà lombarda. Le titolate tavole rotonde che hanno concluso i due convegni hanno fornito spunti per avviare dialoghi e confronti a livello locale e nazionale tra imprese e mondo universitario. Gli eventi hanno avuto il patrocinio del Ministero dell’Istruzione dell’Università e della Ricerca. No full textPython is a programming language, both powerful and easy to use, having a steadily growing success in the recent years. It was created to solve real problems, owning a range of properties typical of languages like C++ or Java. This justifies one of its most remarkable characteristics: the wide consensus both among professional software developers in the scientific and technical field, and among educators and creatives. CILEA introduces, starting October 2009, a basis level course on this language, focusing on its use for scientific and technical computing.Python è un linguaggio di programmazione potente ma semplice da usare, la cui popolarità è andata via via crescendo nel corso degli ultimi anni. E’ stato creato per risolvere problemi reali, e possiede un'ampia varietà di caratteristiche tipiche di linguaggi di programmazione quali C++ e Java. Questo giustifica una delle sue più rimarchevoli caratteristiche: l'ampio consenso sia nell'ambito degli sviluppatori professionisti di software, in ambiente scientifico e di ricerca, che tra i creativi e gli educatori. Il CILEA propone a partire da ottobre 2009 un corso base di questo linguaggio ponendo l’accento sul suo uso per il calcolo tecnico-scientifico

No full textIPDPS is an important international event for engineers and scientists to present their latest research findings in the fields of parallel processing and distributed computing. The themes of IPDPS 2009 were tied together by the great interest of the scientific community for the GPU computing. This kind of technology seems very promising because GPUs are intrinsically and massively parallel with a consequent tremendous computing power if compared to a modern single CPU.IPDPS costituisce un importante evento internazionale dedicato alla divulgazione e promozione dei molteplici aspetti del calcolo e dei processi paralleli e distribuiti. I temi trattati nell’edizione di Roma 2009, erano accomunati dal notevole interesse della comunità scientifica verso il calcolo ad alte prestazioni eseguito sulle GPU, ovvero le Graphical Processing Unit, di cui sono costituite le schede grafiche. Questo tipo di tecnologia sembra essere molto promettente, poiché le GPU sono intrinsecamente e massicciamente parallele e pertanto in grado di fornire singolarmente la potenza di calcolo di svariate CPU

No full textIn the year 2006 a Quality Project was launched by CASPUR to further refine and improvethe management of its internal processes with the dual purpose to achieve the qualitycertification (ISO 9001:2000) and to raise its organizational structure and to guide it towardsthe philosophy of continuous improvement. In 2008 the project produced the QualityCertification ISO 9001:200 SINCERT, in conformity with relating guidelines and, inparticular, the "8 principles of quality management" and the Deming PDCA cycle, keyconcepts of Quality Management. The idea underlying the project was to recognize theorganizational and managerial strong points of CASPUR and to consolidate them byadding guidance, reference documents, best practices, monitoring systems, whereverthat could increase the satisfaction of our users and customers, and strengthening ourorganization in business practice. A Quality Plan, based on "Agile" methodology, wasdrawn up to manage complex projects in technological innovative services. Projectsmanagement has been improved, as consequence, of formalizing the various phases ofwork and, more, keeping the customer involved in product development. We have consolidatedprocedures and practices in networks and infrastructure areas as well, by implementinga plan of Platforms Management, where platform is intended as thecomputing facility part functional to specific users need and in order to define and tomeasure Service Level Agreement (SLAs) in providing internal and external clients withservices. The implementation of both “Platforms Management” and “Project Management”allowed us to representing two perspectives the services provided integrated in asingle matrix: a horizontal (or customer) vision of the service , and a vertical (or provider)vision of the infrastructure management. The work showed how the quality certificationshould not be regarded as a finishing point but as a starting point for whom, like CASPUR,wants to make the philosophy of continual improvement the engine of it’s organization
