The impact of breeding experience and social status on group interactions and fitness in a communally breeding species

In group breeding species, not only prior breeding experiences, but also an individual's social status and that of the group members it interacts with, may influence an individual's future behaviour and fitness. Here, we report an experimental study on the facultatively communal breeding burying beetles, Nicrophorus vespilloides, in which we tested the combined effects of prior breeding experience and dominance status (dominant vs. subordinate) of focal individuals and those of other group members on aggressive interactions, parental investment and fitness during a future breeding event. In the presence of inexperienced subordinates, there was less aggressiveness towards experienced dominants than to inexperienced dominants, which resulted in a lower injury degree of dominants. Compared to inexperienced dominant or subordinate individuals, experienced dominants with prior breeding experience increased their parental investment, whereas experienced subordinates reduced their parental investment and by doing so avoid the escalation of aggressive interactions. Consequently, dominants may benefit from the presence of experienced subordinates because they gain enhanced benefits in reproduction, or suffer less from aggressive interactions with others. Our results highlight the importance of an individual's own breeding experience and social status and that of other group members for mediating individual behaviour and social interactions in groups resulting in higher net fitness.

See ReadMe file.

Funding provided by: Nederlandse Organisatie voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek
Crossref Funder Registry ID: http://dx.doi.org/10.13039/501100003246
Award Number: NWO-TOP-854.11.003

Funding provided by: Koninklijke Nederlandse Akademie van Wetenschappen
Crossref Funder Registry ID: http://dx.doi.org/10.13039/501100001722
Award Number: KNAWWF/807/19021

Funding provided by: China Scholarship Council
Crossref Funder Registry ID: http://dx.doi.org/10.13039/501100004543
Award Number: CSC-201506230168

Utilization of whatsapp application as discussion media in blended learning
The purpose of this study is to discuss about utilization of Whatsapp application as discussion media in Blended Learning. This study sought to integrate learning technologies to improve the quality of student's learning. Messenger application is used to communicate synchronously, so it can be positioned as a discussion media. This study focused on Whatsapp capabilities can be utilized to conduct in online learning of Blended Learning. This study aims to describe the discussion media. This study through the literature review that outlines the stages of Blended Learning using Whatsapp application as a discussion media by using qualitative methods. The result shows that Whatsapp application utilization as a discussion media in Blended Learning sessions initiated by offline using conventional methods, so the online session focused on the discussion as indicated by dialogue and interaction among participants
Novel Therapeutic Options for Prevention and Treatment of Peptic Ulcer Disease
Gastrointestinal (GI) toxicity associated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) is still an important medical and socio-economic problem – despite recent pharmaceutical advances. Furthermore, no monotherapy has been able to eradicate Helicobacter pylori bacteria which have been reported to be the major cause of peptic ulcer disease. In recent time, a lot of attention has been focused in developing new treatment and preventive options for peptic ulcer disease. This review also illustrates the current status of the available techniques in endoscopy with a focus on screening for peptic ulcer disease. There is the need for the review of these recent approaches and breakthroughs hence, this literature review.International Journal of Clinical and Medical Cases (ISSN: 2517-7346

Intraday Return and Volatility Structures in Borsa Istanbul and the Impact of Opening and Closing Call Auction Sessions
In this study, intraday return and volatility structures are researched in Borsa Istanbul using 102 shares in different indexes while focusing on the period between November 1, 2006 – May 31, 2012 by using 15-minute returns. Additionally, the effect of opening and closing call sessions, implemented on February 2nd, 2007 and March 3rd, 2012 respectively to reduce extraordinary price movement and ensure more effective price formation, on these structures are analyzed. For this purpose, the difference in the average and standard deviation of the 15-minute returns in the period before and after the implementation of call sessions are tested. Due to two separate trading sessions, the intraday return structure fits the double “U” form, the volatility structure fits the “L” form and both are consistent with the literature. Implementation of opening and closing call sessions significantly affected the structure of return and volatility at the opening time of the first session and closing time of the second session. Implementation of opening call session significantly decreased average return meanwhile increased volatility during the opening time of the first session. Implementation of closing call session significantly decreased the average return in the closing time of the second session and the volatility in the opening time of the first session
