Rischio ambientale e idrogeologico / Environmental and hydrogeological risk
[ITA] Dal 6 al 15 ottobre 2016 la Regione del Veneto ha organizzato, in collaborazione con l’International Terraced Landscapes Alliance, il Terzo Incontro Mondiale sui Paesaggi Terrazzati dal titolo “Paesaggi terrazzati: scelte per il futuro/Terraced Landscapes: choosing the future”. L’evento si è svolto a Venezia, Padova – sessioni plenarie – e in dieci diverse aree terrazzate della penisola italiana, dove sono state ospitate le sessioni tematiche e i lavori sul campo. L’articolazione innovativa dell’Incontro ha permesso di coinvolgere più di duemila partecipanti tra studiosi, ricercatori, rappresentanti delle amministrazioni locali, tecnici, operatori turistici, agricoltori, artigiani, abitanti. La prima sezione del volume è dedicata al resoconto delle dieci giornate congressuali e agli esiti prodotti. La seconda parte della pubblicazione raccoglie i contributi scientifici prodotti dai relatori in merito ai temi dibattuti in occasione dell’Incontro, offrendo una importante panoramica sullo stato dell’arte e gli studi sui paesaggi terrazzati delle regioni italiane e dei paesi dell’area europea ed extraeuropea – in particolare Perù, Cina e Giappone. Scopo del volume è promuovere una conoscenza diffusa e più consapevole del patrimonio terrazzato mondiale, con finalità educativo-didattiche, di supporto alle politiche di salvaguardia, di valorizzazione del patrimonio culturale, ambientale, paesaggistico, economico, sociale e storico che i terrazzamenti rappresentano. Questo capitolo presenta i principali risultati della sessione 8 sul "Rischio ambientale e idrogeologico" tenutasi in Liguria. [ENG] From 6th to 15th October 2016 the Veneto Region organized, in collaboration with ITLA (International Terraced Landscapes Alliance) the Third World Meeting on Terraced Landscapes “Paesaggi terrazzati: scelte per il futuro/Terraced landscapes: choosing the future”. The Meeting took place in Venice, Padua – plenary conferences – and in ten different terraced venues of the Italian peninsula where the thematic sessions took place. The innovative Meeting articulation involved more than two thousand participants: researchers, scholars, representatives of local administrations, technicians, tourism operators, farmers, artisans, inhabitants. The report of the Meeting, along with its #nal outcomes, is organized in the first part of the volume. The second part of the publication is dedicated to the collection of the scientific contributions, which were written on the issues addressed by the Congress, offering an important overview of the state of art and studies on terraced landscapes of Italian regions, and European and extra-European countries – in particular Peru, China and Japan. The book aims at promoting a widespread and aware knowledge of the world terraced heritage, with informative, cultural and educational purposes, which can also be used to support the policies for a sensible management, enhancement and protection of the terraced landscapes heritage. Cyphoma aureocinctum (Dall, 1889) (Gastropoda: Ovulidae) in the Canary Islands, with notes on the type material and type locality
New information about the habitat and distribution of the rare, medium deep-water Atlantic ovulid Cyphoma aureocinctum (Dall, 1889) in the Canary Islands is provided, and the spawn of this species is described and illustrated. Living specimens were found on the antipatharian Antipathella wollastoni (Gray, 1857), between 25-40 m in depth, and in shrimp fishing pots between 100-180 m. The shell of fully and not fully grown specimens is described and compared with that of the lectotype, an additional W. Atlantic specimen and the closely related Cyphoma eludens Lorenz & Brown, 2015, from St. Helena Island. The colour pattern of the mantle and head-foot in the living animal is similar in specimens from the Canary and Cape Verde Islands, and also similar to that of C. eludens. The spawn consists of transparent egg capsules of more or less rounded cushion-like shape, arranged in lines along dead branches of the black coral and contain some hundred eggs, embryos or larvae. The distribution, habitat and some taxonomical issues of this still poorly known species are discussed.
The revision of the type material of Cyphoma aureocinctum has resulted in no syntypes being found of this species in collections of the Museum of Comparative Zoology, Harvard, and only one syntype found in the National Museum of Natural History, Washington, which is designated as lectotype. The first locality given in the original description for C. aureocinctum (“off Sombrero”) is discussed, concluding that it is a locality in Florida, not in the West Indies
Berg and Breede River Rehabilitation Project Data
<p>This study investigates the efficiency of active versus passive interventions and investment on riparian rehabilitation success in two local catchments. Our research conducted at 11 riparian rehabilitation sites varying in size across these catchments. To evaluate and compare the success of these active and passive rehabilitation, we conducted vegetation, soil and geomorphological sampling and analysed the associated climate data. The cost of active rehabilitation was quantified to determine the effect of investment on rehabilitation success.</p>

<p>Physical models can help improve solar cell efficiency during the design phase as well as quality control after the fabrication process. We present a data-driven approach to inverse modeling that can predict the underlying parameters of a finite element method (FEM) solar cell model based on an electroluminescence (EL) image of the solar cell. For training the inverse model, 75,000 synthetic EL images were generated with randomized parameters of the physical cell model. We combine 17 deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs) based on a modified VGG19 architecture into a deep ensemble to add uncertainty estimates. Using the silicon solar cell model, we show that such a novel approach to data-driven statistical inverse modeling can help apply recent developments in deep learning to new engineering applications that require real-time parameterizations of physical models augmented by confidence intervals. The trained network was tested on four different physical solar cell samples and the estimated parameters were used to create the corresponding model representations. Resimulations of the measurements yielded relative deviations of the calculated from the measured junction voltage values of 0.2\% on average with a maximum of 10\%, demonstrating the validity of the approach.</p>
Sediment Data in the Po Delta Park Dataset
<p>The dataset provides the concentration of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), heavy metals, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and pesticides in sediment samples collected in the Vallona Lagoon, situated on the Po Delta River (Northern Italian Adriatic Sea). Samples were collected during the years 2020, 2021 and 2022.</p>
Women in and on the Egyptian 21st Dynasty Coffins
Coffins of the 21st Dynasty consist of a much valuable source of the information concerning women of that period. From the inscriptions containing the titles and names of women one can get some knowledge about the persons who were buried in the coffins, about their position in the Theban society of the 21st Dynasty, sometimes about family relationships, especially with the high priest of Amūn. Similar information can be furnished by the gilding of some parts of the coffin lid, or a damage done to the gilded surfaces by the robbers. The very rich iconography of the painted coffin decoration is another source of information concerning women: first of all about their dress and their ritual activities. However, the shape of a woman was often given to some religious ideas, especially personifications that traditionally —although not correctly— are given the designations «goddesses». Also some symbolic ideas like cardinal points or some words of feminine gender were presented on the coffins in the female form. «You look Lovely, Darling, in any Garments!»: Women Coffins as Self–Presentation
The styling of cloth and the fine appearance were the points of great interest and significance for women of all times and nations. On the numerous paintings, wall reliefs, sculptures and papyrus vignettes one can only admire the beauty and richness of women’s garments. Every epoch of course had its peculiarities, but the New Kingdom and the Late Period were the times of the most prominent dresses, hairstyles and jewellery. The pieces of art of that period reflect these outstanding garments. Even when a woman is depicted naked (cosmetic spoon, PSMFA Inv. № I.1a 3627), she is clothed with her natural or artificial beauty with tattoo and jewellery. The typical narrow «pencil case» dress was the example of classic style used to depict goddesses and women–priests (statue of Ran–nay, PSMFA Inv. № I.1a 2099). Moreover, the anthropoid coffins also could be perceived as beautiful garments in which a woman shall meet the Great God, and are covered with amulets as jewellery; her breast is shown, she wears a huge wig, pendants, earrings and rings (coffin of Ius–cankh, PSMFA Inv. № I.1a 6800). The coffin as a body–shell was decorated not only with religious scenes to help her to overcome all the difficulties of the paths of the Netherworld, but it was a self–presentation of richness and beauty of the woman. The depiction of Hathor on the bottom of the coffin of the 21st Dynasty was not only a sign of her coming to the necropolis under protection of the goddess, but it shows the endless beauty, which was the desired dream of any woman: thin figure, rounded shapes, rich garments and young timeless beauty. It demonstrates the ideal for eternal life in the great beyond. The beauty and fine smell made the deceased woman goddess–like in her endless going forth by day
