Why an Egyptian Priestess of the Higher Panopolitan Class deserved such Poor a Mummification?
In the context of the Athens Mummy Project, jointly performed by the Hellenic Institute of Egyptology, the National Archaeological Museum of Athens and the Athens Medical Centre, we re–examine the intriguing mummy of Ta–kherd–Min (NAM AIG 3348), a dancing priestess of Min, as well as the inscriptions on her coffin. The fact that she was the daughter of a father belonging to the higher clergy of Min, offspring of a noble family of high stratus in the Panopolitan society of the Ptolemaic Period, and that she herself was a ritual dancer of the city–god, would be per se implying an excellent embalming result for her mummy. However, CT scanning has uncovered several unexpected and intriguing facts: putrefaction of her body had started long time before mummification begun; her bones were disordered; her cranium was held in place with a palm stick through the foramen magnum; there was a failed excerebration attempt; there were prosthetic additions for the nose and her eyes; &c. We explained these finds, assuming that —following Hērodotos [II, 89: 1-2]— her body was given to the embalmers several days after her death, in order to avoid a possible necrophilia mistreatment, as well as by the fact that such post mortem confection and support of the mummified body was common during both the Ptolemaic and the Roman Period. In this paper, we re–discuss the whole matter, re–examining the hieroglyphic inscriptions on her coffin and proposing some new research methods, as well as her face reconstruction that will be performed in the immediate future

Many tomb paintings, particularly of the Middle and New Kingdoms, depict the frequent and close interaction of women with plants and flowers of many species. This research first examines some lesser—known examples of women utilising plants other than for cloth making and food preparation and then suggests a contribution that women may have made to plant selection and breeding very early in the context of the ancient Egyptian civilisation
Comprehensive RNA-seq analysis of colorectal cancer in a Korean cohort
<p>Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide, and understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying CRC development and progression is critical for developing effective treatments. In this study, we performed RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) analysis of CRC tissue samples and adjacent normal tissue samples from 214 cohort to investigate differential gene expression between the two groups. We identified a total of 19,575 expressed genes in CRC tissue and normal tissue, with 3,830 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) identified between the two groups. Functional annotation analysis revealed that upregulated DEGs were significantly enriched in pathways related to cell cycle, DNA replication, and IL-17, while downregulated DEGs were enriched in metabolic pathways. We also analyzed relationships between the clinical information and subtypes using Consensus Molecular Subtype (CMS). Our findings provide valuable insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying Korean CRC patients and suggest potential targets for developing new treatments for this deadly disease. The raw data and processed results of this study have been deposited in a public repository to enable further analysis and exploration.</p>

GWWD: Wetland and water body sample sets
<p>Wetland and water body sample sets are essential for wetland mapping, analysis and decision making, which is important to implement informed and sustainable management. Over the past decades, a number of excellent thematic wetland classification maps and land use classification maps have been developed. In order to better serve wetland mapping, we have developed the first Sentinel-2 based global wetland and water body dataset based on the dynamic and ecological characteristics of wetlands, taking into account the impact of geographic zoning on wetlands, and have proposed the "climatic zone - frequency - frequency threshold" approach, which provides an unprecedented opportunity for a diverse community of users from different disciplines. This provides unprecedented flexibility for different user communities across different disciplines. The global wetland sample set includes a total of 66,593 sample points. Mangroves, woody marshes, floodplain wetlands, tidal flats, seasonal herbaceous marshes, permanent herbaceous marshes and salt marshes account for 20.7%, 19.4%, 14.1%, 10.3%, 22.3%, 1.3% and 11.9% of the total wetland sample points respectively. The global water body sample set included a total of 58,240 sample points, with permanent water bodies, seasonal water bodies and temporary water bodies accounting for 45.5%, 31.4% and 23.1% of the total water body sample points, respectively.</p>
