Development of an Ultrasound System to Estimate Mechanical Properties ofPorcine Extensor Tendons Ex-Vivo

    No full text
For this project, ultrasound is being used to image porcine extensor tendons to look at the echogenicity of tendons as they undergo uniaxial tension loading. Ultrasound imaging enables tissue evaluation in real time by collecting backscattered echoes and converting amplitude (V) to intensity (dB). The goal of this project was to create a measurement for comparing intensity changes throughout the stress strain curve of a porcine extensor tendon. These data establish the foundation for an ultrasound system to noninvasively, nondestructively predict tendon yield stress before rupture.</p

Modeling Sensitivity to Supernova Signals in an Upgrade of IceCube

    No full text
During a supernova, huge numbers of neutrinos are emitted. These neutrinos are very light elementary particles which rarely interact, making them excellent messengers across long distances but also very hard to detect. However, recording their energy spectrum could reveal information about core processes during supernovae, and also about neutrinos themselves, giving new insight into open questions in astro and particle physics. Using existing supernova models and connecting detector simulations, we confirmed that a proposed upgrade of the IceCube detector consisting of multi-PMT Digital Optical Modules could offer heightened sensitivity to coincidence hits, allowing for the separation of signal from background, and the potential for reconstructing the neutrino energy spectrum. </p

Teaching Info Lit Through AI: From Concept to Classroom

    No full text
This poster explores four "plug and play" learning activities that leverage AI tools to enhance students' information literacy skills beyond evaluating AI itself. Grounded in the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education, these activities focus on identifying implicit biases and embracing research as an iterative process. We highlight our design process and integration into asynchronous and in-class settings, and share collected feedback from students, faculty, and librarians. Participants will gain insights into our pedagogical approach and lessons learned, along with strategies for using AI to support critical and creative research practices. This poster was presented at the Teaching and Learning With AI Conference, held in Orlando, FL, USA, May 28-30, 2025.</p
