    This is a UC Aerospace PhD qualifying exam from May 3, 1973. The exam is composed of 16 sheets of light beige wove paper typewritten on the recto, and all stapled together on the top left corner. There is not much information about this item, except it belongs to the Neil Armstrong archival collection at the Engineering Library. This item came to the Lab for housing only

    This is part of a set of volumes that are heavily used at the Winkler center. Two volumes were received by the Preservation Lab in 2023 for leather repair and are being treated in the lab simultaneously. Chris Voynovich is treating one volume dating to 1884‐1900 in conjunction with treatment and instruction by Ashleigh Ferguson Schieszer (The item record number for the volume that Chris is treating is i8251205x.     This is a lithograph poster measuring 14 x 21 inches. The poster promotes an evening boat ride on May 11, 1917 with music provided by the Cincinnati Dance Orchestra. The primary support is a thin, smooth, white machine made paper adhered overall to a board support. The paper is likely clay coated. Board support consisting of grey laminated layers. On the verso, there is evidence of a prior frame backing that was once adhered to the back of the secondary support. The frame backing (tertiary backing) fragments are dark brown and adhered with a brown adhesive

    This is volume one of a collection of two volumes of this title. This book belongs to the John Miller Burnam Classics library. This book is important to the library since it was a personal copy of the Professor Burnam and has a handwritten inscription by him on the front endpaper page of the text block. This book is not handled frequently. This is a full reddish brown leather binding with six raised bands. There is no decoration on the covers. The spine is gold tolled in between the raised bands with flora motifs and the title stamped in gold. The board edges are also tolled with gold decoration. The text block is composed of several gatherings sewn through the fold on six raised double cords.     This item came to the Preservation Lab for exhibition in the Engineering Library. Of particular interest is the foldout map at p.400. This is a full cloth publisher’s binding featuring green cloth with blind tooling and gold lettering on the upper cover and spine. The volume features three foldouts, one at the title page (plate: illustration of the exposition building), another before the “List of Subscribers” (chart: treasurers report), and another following p.400 (map: exposition layout).     This is a Japanese accordion folded binding (orihon) with hand‐inked botanical illustrations. The covers are covered in a beige, slightly polished paper that has been drummed onto the thin boards. There is a vertical title label in the center of the upper cover.     This is a full vellum binding with illuminated manuscript handwriting that was recently cataloged at the Public Library. It is in need of housing for long‐term storage. Vellum binding is in poor condition from being stored unrestrained and unhoused. The vellum textblock is exceedingly thin and fine. The front page is damaged. The covers are warping away from the textblock, placing stress on the joints of the binding. The joints are beginning to split.
