Exploring the Validity of Performance Prediction of AI-powered Interview Tool and Decision Making Factors of Human Raters
This study tests the convergent and prediction validity of artificial intelligence (AI), specifically an AI interview tool that interprets big five personalities through videos, and factors affecting the decision making process of AI users under an interview setting. The convergent validity of the AI interview tool is examined by comparing the interpreted big five personality of AI to the self-rated scores of interviewees, then further tested against different performance measurements, including (1) supervisor-rated job performance and (2) an objective creative task performance rated by independent raters. Afterwards, three individual characteristics of human raters, including (1) trust, (2) technology acceptance and (3) sense of uniqueness, are tested on its influence on the decision making process when referencing an AI. A quasi-experimental research is applied in two experiments to examine the above relations. The first experiment is set in a mock internship programme interview with 43 student interviewees and 45 external human raters. Meanwhile, the second experiment is conducted in a local information technology firm with 67 interviewees and 5 internal human raters. Research results show three noteworthy findings. First, AI has significant convergent validity in interpreting outer personality traits such as extraversion, agreeableness and conscientiousness in a self-rated personality context, yet only selected traits such as extraversion and agreeableness have a significant prediction on performance. Second, human raters have low performance predictability with the assistance of AI interview tools. Third, human raters with greater technical competency will overestimate the creative task performance of students when referencing an AI. Collectively, these results offer insights in improving AI interview tools and essential measures to maximise human-AI collaboration effectiveness in an employee selection context
An acceptance of customer for Occupationally-Generated Content in involution by using Theory of Planned Behavior
The current world is experiencing rapid and diverse technological advancements, and the general public's demand for knowledge is becoming increasingly complex and diversified. With the progress of technology, the desire for knowledge among humans has skyrocketed. As knowledge levels rise, information access channels become more abundant, and work processes become more complex and diverse, people have higher requirements for knowledge. They strive to keep up with the pace of global progress. However, the diverse and accessible information sources, although reducing the cost of access, have also resulted in varying quality of information sources.
Therefore, this study focuses on the case of low-professional individuals in the Occupationally-Generated Content (OGC) model, such as professional editors providing new book speed reading services. The study utilizes a questionnaire survey to investigate the impact of subjective norms and usage intentions on consumers in four different scenarios. These scenarios include non-competitive environments where consumers are willing to improve their abilities, competitive environments where consumers are willing to improve their abilities, non-competitive environments where consumers are not willing to improve their abilities, and competitive environments where consumers are not willing to improve their abilities. The study aims to determine whether consumers are more willing to accept and use services provided by low-profile professionals (professionals with low fame).
The study collected a total of 204 valid questionnaires. The results show that consumers in scenarios one to three are influenced by subjective norms and usage intentions when choosing services provided by low-profile professionals. However, in the competitive environment of scenario four, where consumers are not willing to improve their abilities, subjective norms do not have a significant impact. Therefore, it can be inferred that even with social expectations or other external pressures, consumers are unlikely to choose services provided by low-profile professionals if they are unwilling to improve their own abilities.
Finally, based on the current research findings, practical and theoretical suggestions are proposed to help low-profile professionals explore customer sources and identify more precise target markets
The functional role of Arg58 in structural features and membrane perturbing activity of cardiotoxins
The structure of Naja atra (Taiwan cobra) cardiotoxins (CTXs) is characterized by three-loop structures with continuous hydrophobic stretches. There is compelling evidence that lipid membranes are the main target of CTX. Mechanistically, the loop regions of CTXs functionally destabilize the cell membranes, while the positively charged residues of CTXs bind to negatively charged phospholipids on the membranes. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of Arg residues in the structural features and membrane perturbing activity of N. atra cardiotoxin 3 (CTX3) by chemical modification using phenylglyoxal (PGO). The results of HPLC analysis showed that the hydrophobicity of PGO-modified CTX3 (PGO-CTX3) increased compared to the native toxin. MALDI-TOF mass analysis confirmed an increase in the molecular weight of PGO-CTX3. Mass analysis of protease-digested peptides indicated that PGO specifically modified Arg58 in CTX3. Measurement of circular dichronism spectra showed that the intact Arg58 played a role in maintaining the global structure of CTX3. Compared with the native toxin, PGO-modified CTX3 significantly enhanced the fluorescence of 8-anilinonaphthalene sulfonate, indicating that modification of Arg58 promoted a structure with exposed hydrophobicity. Furthermore, blocking the positive charge of Arg58 increased the structural flexibility of CTX3, as demonstrated by the trifluoroethanol-induced structural transition. The membrane-damaging activity of PGO-CTX3 was higher than that of CTX3. However, there was no positive relationship between the potency of membrane-damaging activity and phospholipid-binding affinity. Native and PGO-CTX3 differently induced color transition lipid/polydiacetylene vesicles, suggesting that they adopted different modes of binding to phospholipid vesicles. Likewise, modification of Arg58 in CTX1 with PGO altered its structural characteristics and promoted its membrane-damaging activity. Collectively, these results suggest that modification of Arg-58 in CTX3 and CTX1 leads to changes in their structural features that trigger these toxins to adopt different membrane interaction modes, thereby increasing their membrane perturbing activity
The impact of order imbalance volatility of different investor types on future stock returns
Previous studies have extensively explored the informational implications of order imbalance (OIB) in market trading. Based on these researches, this study investigates the relationship between OIB and future stock returns. Additionally, we also examine whether volatility of order imbalance (VOIB) influences future stock returns. Volatility of order imbalance (VOIB) is introduced by Chordia, Hu, Subrahmanyam, & Tong (2019). We adopt the method of Bogousslavsky & Collin\ue2Dufresne (2022) to construct VOIB with high-frequency intraday data, and then investigate the relationship between OIB and future stock returns, as well as the relationship between VOIB and future stock returns. In this study, we calculate the main variables OIB and VOIB using the transaction data provided by the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE) from 2011 to 2017. Based on the completeness of this dataset, we are able to consider the differences among different investor categories in our research. Results show that, weekly OIB of each kind of investors are positively related to the future stock returns. Additionally, weekly VOIB of mutual funds and individual investors are also positively related to the future stock returns. Furthermore, in the model considering both OIB and VOIB, OIB is still positively related to the future stock returns. However, in this model, VOIB is only positively related to the future stock returns when it is constructed by 5-minute frequency OIB of individual investors
A Philosophical Reflection on Artificial Intelligence \ue2 Perspectives from the Concept of Practice
In the 21st century, humanity has witnessed an explosive growth in technology. Numerous scientists constantly depict the infinite possibilities of the future, gaining significant achievements, with artificial intelligence even being referred to as humanity's final invention. Without a doubt, it is a major transformation affecting human societal production, education, living, and many other aspects. However, in contrast to the fervent discussions and advancements in technology, the focus on ethics and philosophy appears relatively absent.
The primary aim of this paper is to explore whether there is a form of wisdom that human beings possess which artificial intelligence cannot surpass. By refuting the instrumental rationality of artificial intelligence, we reveal the possibility of another form of rationality, value rationality. Through the phronesis, we validate that humans can demonstrate a form of thought distinct from instrumental rationality when making choices. This unique thinking happens to be a distinguishing feature of human intelligence and the intelligence that artificial intelligence cannot surpass.
Therefore, this paper transitions from theory back to practice, discussing the impacts and influence of artificial intelligence on human labor work and how phronesis plays its part. We hope that through this research, we can make some noise form the humanities in this era where efficiency is valued and technology thinking prevails
Direct 3D printing and thermal curing of benzoxazine composites
Benzoxazine is a thermosetting polymer with excellent thermal stability, mechanical properties, and near zero shrinkage during crosslinking etc. These properties make benzoxazine widely used in the aviation industry for aircraft coatings, battery substrate for insulating layer, adhesive, etc. As manufacturing technology advances, products become more personalized and customized structures must be made on demand. Additive manufacturing techniques, such as 3D printing, become great solutions to form structures from computer-aided design by stacking sequential layers of material over each other. Following this trend, it is desirable to 3D print high strength composites, such as reinforced polybenzoxazine. Since the benzoxazine monomer is liquid and fluidity cause printing difficulty. Yet, despite printability of benzoxazine monomers, the thermosetting material will melt upon being heated for polymerization.
This thesis proposes that a semi-solid of reinforced benzoxazine can be printed and thermally crosslinked without collapsing. The particle reinforcement acts as scaffold to support the printed structure. The characteristic of semi-solid is the solid-liquid transform under different conditions. The ink has fluidity under high shear due to the liquid-like behavior while printing. Upon deposition, the ink will have a solid-like behavior to retain the printed shape. Liquid deposition modeling (LDM) can print the reinforced benzoxazine semi-solid. In this thesis, bisphenol-A aniline type benzoxazine (BA-a) was mixed with graphite and printed into an arbitrary structure as a proof of concept. Upon heating, BA-a polymerizes and the near zero shrinkage of benzoxazine polymerization maintained the structure
Must comparisons be odious? Exploring the interactive effect between perceived relative qualification comparison and deservingness on coworker-directed proactive helping, advice seeking, knowledge hiding and social undermining: The mediating roles of social comparison emotions
In organizations, employees often compare each other\ue2s relative qualification, but how this comparison affects the emotions of employees and colleagues and subsequent behaviors is still lacking in relevant research. Based on social comparison theory, this study explores how employees\ue2 perceive relative qualification (PRQ) comparisons interact with perceived deservedness of comparison in triggering four social comparison emotions: schadenfreude, sympathy, benign envy and malicious envy. Furthermore, this study clarifies how these four social comparison emotions are linked to four different behavioral outcomes: knowledge hiding, helping behavior, advice seeking and social undermining.
This study takes the team as the context for social comparison and adopts a round-robin design method to collect data between employees and other team members. A total of 451 valid dyadic questionnaires were collected. The results show that: (1) When employees have high PRQ but think that the results are undeserved, they will increase their sympathy for the compared object and increase their helping behavior towards them; (2) When employees have low PRQ but think that the results are deserved, they will increase their benign envy towards the compared object and then increase their behavior of seeking advice from them; (3) When employees have low PRQ but think that the results are undeserved, they will increase their malicious envy towards the compared object and then increase their social undermining behavior towards them; (4) The PRQ social comparison between employees and colleagues will not affect schadenfreude emotion, but schadenfreude emotion will increase knowledge hiding behavior towards colleagues

Research on Selection of Promotional Targets - Application of Uplift Model
In today's business landscape, to attract customers to physical stores, companies often launch various marketing campaigns. Therefore, in targeted marketing that primarily relies on digital media, selecting the right marketing targets before conducting the marketing campaign can be considered the most crucial task for marketers.
In the past, businesses mainly used response models to predict the probability of customers\ue2 response to specific marketing instruments, and they used to select the targets with high expected response probabilities. However, research has found that using response models may select customers who would respond regardless of whether treatment is applied, resulting in wasted marketing costs. In addressing this issue, Uplift modeling can be used to predict the probability of a customer's response before and after marketing intervention. By estimating the "marginal utility" of marketing activities for each individual customer, the model helps in selecting the right marketing targets and improving marketing performance.
While most of the previous literature comparing the uplift model with randomly selecting customers, modern businesses now primarily use response models for target selection. To cope with the actual business practice, this study analyzes data from a foreign e-commerce company and Company A in Taiwan. We utilize logistic regression to establish a response model and employs three different methods, namely the Two-model approach, Treatment dummy approach, and Transformation approach, to build uplift models. The purpose is to examine which targeting methods would maximize the number of responses. Our study reveals that the model performance varies across different datasets, and there is no specific model that performs best across all datasets. Therefore, different strategies are needed for selecting marketing targets depending on the dataset and marketing plan. However, the study revealed that uplift models performed better than response models in most datasets, as was suggested in the relevant literature.
Furthermore, previous study has primarily focused on developing better model-building methods, often lacking practical application. Therefore, this study combines hypothetical simulations with factors such as "marketing costs," "gross profit margin," and "marketing instrument\ue2s marginal effect on customer value", along with the predicted results of the models. The aim is to align with the decision-making process of businesses in selecting marketing targets in practical settings. Additionally, the study examines whether there are different decisions when companies select marketing targets based on the strategy of maximizing overall return on investment. The results of our simulation indicate that when relevant factors and strategy objectives are considered, the selection of marketing target schemes will vary. Unlike previous technically oriented study centered on model algorithm advancements, this study focuses on the practical business application of uplift modeling, I provide examples with which, companies can incorporate the predicted results of the models into their own marketing considerations and goals, choose the appropriate model for selecting marketing targets, and make informed decisions
The role of symbiotic algae in the phototaxis response of sea anemone hosts (Exaiptasia pallida)
Exaiptasia pallida has phototaxis, but only in anemones with symbionts, and aposymbiotic anemones do not have phototaxis. Since anemones do not have an ocular structure, we investigated whether photosynthesis of the symbiotic algae is the source of the host's phototropic response. We stopped the photosynthesis of the symbiotic algae by changing the wavelength and adding a specific inhibitor and altered the content of Taurine (neurotransmitter) in the sea anemone by osmotic pressure regulation and a competitive inhibitor of Taurine transpoter, respectively. Furthermore, the proportion of anemones that produced the phototropic response decreased with the increase in concentration after the addition of DCMU, a PSII blocker (which stops phototropic response by interrupting the electron transport chain in phototropic response), or Acetazolamide, an inhibitor of carbonic anhydrase (which stops the Calvin cycle). Meanwhile, when the osmotic pressure was changed to affect the content of taurine, a neurotransmitter in the host, and ISE was utilized as a competitive inhibitor, the phototropic response of the anemone was suppressed. The above results suggest that photosynthesis of symbiotic algae plays a driving role in the phototropic response of sea anemones, and the mechanism of action needs to be further investigated
