Synthesis of Inorganic Porous Structural Materials Using Nanoperforated Layers

    No full text
Nanonetwork-structured films were prepared via self-assembly of amphiphilic block copolymers (BCPs), polystyrene-block-poly(2-vinylpyridine) (PS-P2VP). With the specific technique called trapping of the structural coloration (TOSC), the osmotic pressure of the solvent could drive the formation of parallel-aligned nanoperforated layers (NPL) with periodicities similar to visible wavelengths and the visible light can thus be reflected. Fine-tuned photonic crystal films with photopatterned structures could be carried out by masking of UV irradiation. By changing the molecular weight of BCPs and the blending ratio of additives such as mesogen molecules, we could control the pore size and porosity of the NPL. Finally, we introduce inorganic materials such as titanium dioxide (TiO2) and molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) into porous NPLs for structure replication. The amorphous TiO2-NPL photonic crystal exhibited a well-remained inverse microlayers (IMLs) structure with a large enhancement of the thermal-resistance property. The MoS2-NPL demonstrated a significantly increased porosity and could be used as a novel material in the field of sensor and electrochemistry

Empathy and Social Entrepreneurial Intention\uef\ubcThe Effect of Self-Efficacy and Gender-Evidence from Taiwan

    No full text
This thesis focuses on investigating the relationship between empathy and social entrepreneurial intention (SEI) with the mediation of social entrepreneurial self-efficacy (SSE) and the moderation of gender. A sample of 232 Taiwanese business and managerial junior and senior students were collected to achieve the research goal. Findings show that empathy does not directly lead to SEI among students. Instead, the impact of empathy on SEI is explained via SSE. The study finds the complete mediation of SSE in the empathy - SEI link. However, this thesis fails to confirm gender as a moderator in the empathy - SEI relationship. This result shows that although females are known to have a higher level of empathy, it does not simultaneously mean that they will deliver a higher level of SEI. One possible explanation might be SSE level differences and perceived entrepreneurial barriers for women in the country. From the research results, practical and managerial implications have been made for families, teachers, social entrepreneurship educators, and the government of Taiwan. Future studies could expand the sample size and focus on another gender aspect like gender-role orientation to better investigate the empathy \ue2 SEI link

The Impact of Industrialization Progress on Women\ue2s Rights -Case Study of Japan Postwar

    No full text
The importance of a country places on women's rights development should be positively correlated with its economic development level. But Japan, as the third largest economy in the world, has been slow to make progress in protecting women's rights. In particular, the rate of Japan\ue2s labor force participation, economic opportunity, and political empowerment are not only lower than other developed countries, but also lower than some developing countries. According to current literatures, the root of this issue is because of Japanese traditional cultural values or attributed to Japan's labor policy and corporate system. It is believed that the lifetime employment system, the seniority system, and the stereotype of gendered division of labor are the factors that prevent women in the workplace from breaking out. Although these theories have a valid point, there is the problem of reversing the cause and effect. The formation of the labor policy should be closely related to the background circumstances and industrial structure at the time of its formulation. This thesis will compare the differences in the industrialization process between postwar Japan and other countries with relatively advanced women's rights development. List how labor-intensive industrial structure interacts with labor rights and social structure in the light industry stage. And then summarize how the missing stage of industrial recovery in postwar Japan impacts the development of Japanese women\ue2s rights in the workplace and social status

In 2020, the global outbreak of COVID-19 has led to rising demand for chips and a reduction in supply due to shutdowns in various places. There has been a wave of chip crises, and Taiwan's semiconductor industry has also attracted attention. Taiwan has been vigorously developing high-tech industries since the 1980s, and established science parks one after another. Have these science parks affected the local Demographic Structure, Marriage Rate, and Female Labor Force Participation Rate? In "Hsinchu Science Park","Tainan Science Park" and "Taichung Science Park" and what are the different effects? This research uses the data from the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics, Executive Yuan, Government Statistics, Urban and Regional Development Statistics and Department of Household Registration from 1981 to 2020, and uses the differences in difference method (Difference in differences, DID) in the empirical analysis. The empirical results show that the science park does not have a significant impact on the Demographic Structure, but it has a positive effect on the marriage rate, and it has a statistically significant level of 5% and 10% in the "Hsinchu Science Park", and statistically significant level of 1% in the "Taichung Science Park". However, the impact on the Female Labor Force Participation Rate is negatively correlated but not significant in the "Tainan Science Park"

Light rail is a relatively new public transportation system in Taiwan. The Danhai Light Rail (opened in 2018) and Kaohsiung Circular Light Rail (opened in 2017), the research purpose is to know whether the construction of light rail in these two areas will have the impacts on the neighboring housing prices. This study uses the Propensity Score Matching approach and Difference in Difference approach to conduct general OLS regression and Quantile regression and for analysis. According to the research results of the impacts of the Danhai Light Rail on the neighboring housing price within 500 meters. The first phase is the construction period, the Danhai LRT has a significant negative impact on the neighboring housing values. The impacts of the rest phases after the operating of the Danhai LRT are positive. In the research results of the impacts of the Kaohsiung Circular Light Rail on the neighboring housing price within 500 meters. The result shows all the phases of Kaohsiung Circular LRT show negative impacts on the neighboring housing values. Especially, the first phase of the construction period and the fourth phase of the suspension period have more obvious negative effects on the neighboring housing values. The coefficient estimates of the quantile regression in both areas show that the capitalization effects on housing has the most significant benefit on the price of medium and low total price housing

Exploring Consumer Behavior and Customer Satisfaction in Local Coffee Shop Chains: A Comparative Study between Thailand and Taiwan

    No full text
To address knowledge gaps regarding the impact of cultural differences between Thai and Taiwanese local coffee shop chain customers on consumer behavior, as well as the four significant attributes that influence customer satisfaction, service quality, physical environment, food quality, and price perception. The quantitative data was gathered by the researcher employing survey questionnaires in both countries. The findings indicate that service quality is the most significant factor impacting satisfaction for Thai customers, followed by the physical environment and perceived price. In contrast, for Taiwanese customers, the physical environment is the most important factor, followed by perceived price and product quality. The study also reveals distinct visit patterns and beverage preferences between the two cultural groups. These insights provide valuable information for coffee companies planning to expand into international markets and can aid in the development of effective strategies tailored to specific cultural preferences

Stackelberg Competition in the Heterogeneous Oligopoly Market under Licensing and Technology Spillover

    No full text
This paper establishes a Stackelberg quantitative leadership model with product differentiation characteristics under the oligopoly market structure. Two of the domestic firms incur the variable cost of quality development, which can be developed independently, purchased licenses from foreign firms, or jointly cooperated with foreign firms. In addition, the situation under technology spillover is also considered. Discuss consumer surplus and social welfare. The results show that Firm 1 has the first-mover advantage, the quantity, price and profit of Firm 2 will be squeezed. However, as the spillover effect gets higher, we find that the technology improvement of Firm 2 can carve up part of the market of Firm 1. Finally, we find that the higher the spillover effect, the greater the consumer surplus and social welfare

Derivative Work of Real-World Characters Recognition With Multi-task Learning and GAN Data Augmentation

    No full text
This study tackles the issue of identifying characters in derivative artwork images from real-world scenarios, which is prevalent on creative sharing platforms and has gained importance due to the rise of derivative works featuring real-life figures and the resulting issues with portrait rights. To address this problem, we designed and implemented a computer vision system that can accurately and efficiently recognize characters in such images. We also created a novel dataset of real-life derivative artwork images and evaluated different deep neural network models for image classification, including ResNet, Vision Transformer, EfficientNet, and SVM. We additionally employed multi-task learning and generative adversarial networks to enhance the model's ability to classify, while also addressing the issue of limited data availability. The experiments section reviews relevant theories and literature, including deep learning, multi-task learning, and generative adversarial networks. The proposed model undergoes performance assessment on a designated subset of our dataset, with the main task of character recognition and the auxiliary task of classifying whether the input image is a real image, GAN-generated image, or drawing. We demonstrate that our approach achieves high accuracy in character recognition and outperforms previous studies in this area

A methodology for hard-coupling Generation Expansion Problem with Unit-Commitment for flexibility and adequacy verification

    No full text
Most of the world's electric systems are undergoing major overhauls as renewable energy sources are being aggressively integrated into them. However, conventional generation expansion planning methodologies fail to capture the short-term intricacies of these technologies, leading to inadequate design of complementary technologies for ensuring grid stability. In this research, we present our designed power system planning methodology that interlinks conventional generation expansion planning and unit-commitment models. The hybrid model in our methodology enables us to find optimal expansion plans, considering both coarse- and fine-grained time horizon constraints. We have developed two major test cases: firstly, we created a benchmark test to compare our proposed methodology with the state-of-the-art approaches and successfully demonstrated that, despite a tradeoff in simulation time, our methodology produces superior quality and more cost-effective expansion plans. Secondly, we developed a stochastic real-use case scenario of a simplified Taiwanese power system as a proof of concept and validation of our methodology's applicability to real-world systems as evidence for further research to be implemented with mature power system planning software

With continuous technological advancement, many social media sites such as Instagram and Facebook have changed the way people interact with each other. A new type of celebrities, Social Influencer, have appeared. The brands have also changed their marketing methods, choosing to take the advantage of Social Influencers to increase people\ue2s awareness and sales numbers. This study focuses on the effectiveness of Influencer endorsement, and focuses on the five components of Influencer endorsement: Trustworthiness, expertise, attractiveness, familiarity, and similarity, in an attempt to gain insight into the key factors that influence consumers, as well as to explore the mediating effect of brand likeability between Influencer endorsement and purchase intention, and the moderating effect of social media engagement differences on brand likeability. A total of 278 questionnaires were used to conduct the survey, and the valid sample size was 218. The results of the analysis are as follows: (1) Influencer endorsement has a positive relationship with purchase intention; (2) Influencer endorsement has a positive relationship with brand likeability; (3) Brand likeability has a mediating effect between influencer endorsement and purchase intention; (4) Social media engagement has a negative moderating effect between influencer endorsement and brand likeability. According to the results of the analysis, brands choosing influencer endorsement method can indeed increase consumers' purchase intention and brand likeability. Besides, the longer the time people spent on social media, the lower the brand likeability they will have when faced with influencer endorsement
