\ue2Hush! Elephant in the classroom\ue2 Class management strategies and dilemmas of middle school teachers dealing with relationship bullying
This study uses qualitative interviews to understand the strategies of middle school teachers in dealing with relationship bullying in their classrooms (non-tutor classes), the factors for choosing whether to intervene, and the difficulties they encounter, so as to provide reference for teachers in the education field.
There are ten research participants in this study. The semi-structured interview in the qualitative interview and the coding analysis in the qualitative research are used to analyze the process and dilemma of teachers dealing with relational bullying:
In daily situations, teachers can create a controllable classroom or prevent situations where relationship bullying may occur in advance. If relationship bullying occurs in the classroom, the teacher will choose a strategy of "stopping" according to the reaction of the victim and the progress of the course; or choose to implement opportunity education courses for the whole class or special measures for the victim in order to avoid deterioration. No matter what, the goal is to weaken the attack. After the class, we will interview the parties involved in relational bullying in private, such as external means of stopping the bully or seeking assistance from other teachers; or internal means of coaching the victim of interpersonal skills. Finally, the teacher in charge of the class decides whether to return to the tutor according to the number and whether there are other attack methods.
In the process of dealing with it, you will encounter the following dilemmas: the bullied person (here refers to the dual-role person, or the victim of harassment and misbehavior) difficult to adjust their own behavior, the bully may intensify the bullying behavior, the mentor's different opinions and inability to intervene.
In response to the findings of this study, the researchers put forward four suggestions and three research limitations, in anticipation of future researcher corrections and implementation on the educational field
The Attenuation Mechanism of Guided Wave Propagation on Pipeline
In various industries, the transportation of raw materials through pipelines is common. However, this process exposes the pipelines to the risk of corrosion, potentially leading to safety issues in society. To ensure the integrity of these pipelines, non-destructive inspection methods are crucial, and one such technique is guided wave testing. This method allows for fast and efficient inspection over long distances with the probe placed at a single location, making it highly recommended in the industry. Despite its benefits, guided waves may suffer from energy attenuation due to pipeline features like welds, support structures, and coatings. This study focuses on elucidating the mechanisms responsible for guided wave attenuation during transmission on pipelines, offering valuable insights to inspection personnel.
The research starts by investigating the relationship between different Bessel functions and guided waves. Specifically, it aims to identify the hidden factors within the Bessel function that contribute to attenuation. For this purpose, a new variable called the "Bessel attenuation factor" is introduced to quantify this effect. By comparing this variable with the excitation frequency, phase velocity, and wave number in guided waves, the study examines the association between the Bessel attenuation factor and guided wave behavior, shedding light on the influence of Bessel functions on guided wave attenuation.
The findings reveal that using the unmodified Bessel function results in oscillatory waveforms identical to the actual guided waves when the phase wave velocity exceeds the longitudinal or transverse wave velocity. In contrast, employing the modified Bessel function yields an exponential curve that deviates from the actual waveform. Therefore, the unmodified Bessel function is deemed more suitable in such cases. Conversely, when the phase wave velocity is smaller than the longitudinal or transverse wave velocity, the modified Bessel function provides better results. This distinction highlights the significance of selecting the appropriate Bessel function based on specific wave characteristics.
Furthermore, the research considers the newly defined Bessel attenuation factor in conjunction with the excitation frequency, phase velocity, and wave number of guided waves. It is observed that the Bessel attenuation decreases with lower excitation frequencies and phase velocities, while it increases with higher frequencies and phase velocities. Additionally, the Bessel attenuation increases with a decrease in the wave number. These findings offer valuable guidance for inspection personnel when assessing pipeline conditions, particularly regarding the attenuation factors of guided waves on pipelines. Such knowledge enhances their ability to accurately evaluate the condition of pipelines during inspections.
In conclusion, this study contributes to a more comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms underlying guided wave attenuation in pipelines. By exploring the impact of Bessel functions and various factors affecting guided wave attenuation, inspection personnel can make informed decisions when inspecting pipelines for safety and maintenance purposes. Ultimately, this research enhances the reliability and effectiveness of guided wave testing in the industry

Liberating and Doing Education: Parenthood and Educational Practices in Eclectic Homeschooling Families
Since government passed\ue2Three-Type Acts of Experimental Education\ue2 in 2014, more and more families have chosen to pursue alternative education, expecting to promote various educational environment of their own children. Unlike \ue2homeschooling\ue2, which uses school curriculum at home, \ue2eclectic homeschooling\ue2 flexibly mobilizes diverse educational resources based on children\ue2s needs in different stages. This study aims to understand how eclectic homeschooling families liberate education through doing education and what their parenting experiences are. Furthermore, it will discuss how they cooperate with other families and schools, which brings about diverse educational approaches.
This research is composed of three main parts. The first part examines the perspective within families, exploring how parents justify their homeschooling choice, present the gendered division of parenting, and broaden their motherhood identities. The second part focuses on the aspect of educational practices, understanding how parents customize individualized curriculum and create alternative educational environment through homeschool cooperatives and social engagement. The third part discusses evaluations of school from the point of view of homeschooling families, including questioning, acceptance, and compromise, analyzing contexts behind diverge educational choices. Based on in-depth interviews of 18 mothers and 5 fathers, the results indicate the following.
Firstly, in spite of stabilizing existing gendered division of parenting, eclectic homeschooling mothers can thrive and broaden the meaning of motherhood interdependently with children through reconstructing families as educational units that cross over public and private spheres, viewing it as a practice of empowerment of themselves and next generations as active citizens. Secondly, educational practices of eclectic homeschooling can reconstruct educational spaces and mobilize various resources based on individualized interests of their children. Most of these families cultivate their children to acquire self-directed learning skills through their class privilege, which makes the possibility of transformation of society. Thirdly, eclectic homeschooling families may strategically utilize resources from school or hold ambiguous attitudes toward the institution. The dialectics between the education within the system and outside the system will become more distinct along with higher grades of children and economic status of families.
According to the results as stated above, I will further discuss the culture of intensive parenting and the privatization and stratification of education. Additionally, investigating to what extent eclectic homeschooling families can transform the educational system and provide what valuable insights for Taiwan's current education policies
Alignment of 1D nanomaterials by fiber drawing from a Langmuir -Blodgett film
In recent years, the development of nanotechnology has been applied to wide fields, including semiconductors, biomedicine, optoelectronics, energy, nano device, and wearable devices. Among them, 1-D nanomaterials are a group of long rod-like materials with fibrous nature and high aspect ratios. However, 1-D nanomaterials suffer from aggregation and entanglement due to greatly amplified Van der Waals interactions. The poor processibility results in limited applications because this class of nanomaterials have trouble being assembled into devices. This thesis presents a method for the assembly of 1-D nanomaterials into aligned nanofiber devices. Nanomaterials must be dispersed before being assembled into devices. Through a modified Langmuir-Blodgett film forming method, 1-D nanomaterials can be first dispersed onto a liquid surface and effectively entraps them in a 2D plane. The nanomaterials trapped on the 2D would form a continuous film that can be drawn up from a single point into a fiber with aligned nanofibers. The alignment process relies on Van der Waals interactions between 1-D nanomaterials to hold the aligned nanomaterials together. Hence, the technique can be expected to be applicable to a wide variety of 1-D nanomaterials such as noble metals, ceramics, and polymer
Analysis and Application of Load Survey in Shipboard Power Systems
Research on the load characteristics of ship power systems provides essential basic data for shipyards in designing and constructing new ships and for shipping companies in dispatching and operations. The research can also assist the business needs of related operating departments. There are various quantities and types of power loads for new ships, and the power capacity of the generating devices increases daily. This study aims to establish a comprehensive investigation on power load characteristics, in order to more accurately grasp the load characteristics of all systems on board. This study randomly sampled the equipment power consumption data of three typical merchant ships, and used the estimation statistics method to calculate the load characteristics of each sample population. The calculation results were used to estimate the power load composition. The equipment power consumption data of the sample ships were used to calculate various load curves and load factors to fully master the equipment load characteristics of multiple types of ships. Based on the measured equipment power consumption data and the electrical characteristic data of equipment provided by shipyards and equipment manufacturers, the analysis method and inductive derivation were used to determine the load characteristic model of merchant ships. This was then applied to the actual ship power load analysis. Additionally, for inaccurate estimation of the line loss of the present ship power system, the load characteristics investigation was coordinated with the length of the system feeder cable and the capacity and quantity of the marine distribution transformers; the power flow model was used to analyze the loss of typical feeders. The results were used to estimate the power generation and line loss rate required for different operating conditions of the entire system to accurately calculate the ship power system loss. Furthermore, this paper discusses the influence of temperature and humidity changes on the load curves of ship power distribution feeders and the entire system. The temperature and humidity sensitivities of various types of loads were analyzed according to the collected power consumption of test loads and actual temperature and humidity values. Next, the load composition of feeders and the entire system was used to analyze the influence of the changes in ambient temperature and humidity resulting from the route on the system power consumption and actual work loss of the ship. These results can augment the potential for the shipyards to implement load management and serve as a reference for the systematic operation and scheduling of ship companies
Synthesis of Copper Oxide Nanosheets for Electrocatalytic Oxygen Evolution Reaction
With the development of technology, the demand for energy is increasing day by day. People began to look for alternative energy sources in order to solve the problem of insufficient energy. hydrogen energy has become one of the most promising clean energy sources, and electrochemical water splitting is considered an environmentally friendly method for hydrogen fuel production. In the field of electrocatalytic water splitting, oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is known to be more complicated and has become the biggest hinder to water splitting. Thus, the development of efficient OER catalysts is crucial. Currently, transition metal oxides with high conductivity, particularly copper oxide, have shown potential in OER catalysis.
In this experiment, copper foam was used as the substrate, and Cu2S microplates were synthesized via a one-step solution method at room temperature. The Cu2S microplates were used as pre-catalyst which then converted to CuO nanosheets through cyclic voltammetry. We investigated the effects of synthesis parameters on the surface morphology, crystal structure, and electrocatalytic performance of CuO/CF electrodes. Doping with iron, cobalt, and nickel was also conducted, and the results showed that CuO/CF electrodes synthesized for 3 hours exhibited remarkable OER performance, with low overpotential (352.9 mV) and high electrochemical active surface area (22.08 mF cm-2) at 10 mA cm-2, which was a 77% improvement compared to the copper foam substrate. Doping with 3 wt% cobalt further enhanced performance, reducing overpotential to 311.2 mV and increasing the electrochemical active surface area by 62%. The synthesized CuO-Co catalyst is a highly effective OER catalyst
Investigation of an Indigenous Hexacorallia as a Potential Bone Graft Substitute
Bone fractures have gradually become an inevitable disease, especially because of aging and trauma. The treatment of bone fractures typically requires using a bone graft, especially for critical-sized fractures. Previous studies have indicated that the skeletons of Hexacorallia contain trace elements and possess a unique micro-architecture with excellent bioceramic properties, making them suitable materials for bone grafting. In the present study, we successfully established a research and development platform for marine bioceramics as bone graft substitutes. P coral granules possessed features such as attachment, proliferation, and osteogenic induction of osteoblast cells. The materials derived from P coral exhibited superior osteoconductive properties than those of commercial coral products and preserved the osteoinductive ability of osteoblast cells. These results demonstrate that P coral is a promising bone graft candidate. A preclinical evaluation of this marine-derived bone graft material is necessary. In the future, we will use this screening platform to explore and develop more marine-derived bone graft materials from the Taiwan Ocean
The Development of a Platform for the Pet Service Network \ue2 User-Centered Design Perspective
Companion animals are critical for human well-being and are increasingly popular in Taiwan. To address the challenge of searching for pet-friendly establishments, a pet network platform can be a promising solution to tackle this problem by providing pet-friendly service geolocations, social networking functions, and a marketplace feature. This study explored the usefulness of the Google UX Design Certificate by developing a pet network platform application prototype for the Taiwan market and conducting a semi-structured interview with 10 experienced dog keepers. The findings revealed Google\ue2s approach could polish individuals\ue2 design mentality and foster entrepreneurial mindsets by providing valuable resources. This study identified two categories of dog owners based on their living areas: urban and rural. Those who live in rural areas are not considered the platform's primary users, as they have expressed less interest in using pet network platforms. Conversely, two subcategories can be classified for dog keepers living in urban areas based on their divergent attitudes toward dog ownership, both of whom are potential users. Some see their dogs as children, while others view them as pets.
The implications of this study provided suggestions to future Google approach adopters and advice to potential pet network platform builders. Including the iterative usability testing cycle and additional resources in the product development process is recommended. In addition, some features discussed in this study can be suggested to include or connect to the platform. By doing so, a well-rounded pet network community can be built and brings benefits to pet society in the long term
The Relationship Between Institutional Investors' Holding Period and Investment Performance
This study examines the return predictability of realized losses of institutional investors with large trading volumes, extensive experience, and high profits. The results show that the realized losses of foreign institutional investors can predict future stock price declines, and this effect is significant for monthly, quarterly, and annual returns. In contrast, the predictive power of the realized losses of domestic institutional investors on future stock returns is not significant. Further analysis of the holding periods for realized losses reveals that the return predictability of foreign institutional investors' realized losses is mainly concentrated within two holding periods: 30 days and 90-180 days, while domestic institutional trades lack return predictability across different stock holding periods. However, as the number of days in the holding period extends, the foreign institutional investor\ue2s realized loss information loses its predictive power with respect to future stock prices. Through other calculation methods or definitions of realized losses, this study finds that the return predictability of realized losses of foreign institutional investors is robust. Overall, our findings imply that compared to domestic institutional investors, foreign institutional investors with extensive trading experience, large trading volumes, and high profits possess superior information regarding future prices
