French Discourse Analysis (DA) has drifted away from both structuralism and generativism, both of which sought to establish a linguistic science in the 1960s and 1970s. DA was known started to consider both the individual and history in language studies. It draws on historical materialism, linguistics and discourse theory, all of which are interfaced with psychoanalysis (PECHEUX; FUCHS, 1997). In this article, I present an analysis of some discourses surrounding the 2018 presidential running in Brazil, a moment of intense ideological polarization in the country. It impacted the discourses of both politicians and citizens and reflected on the representations of the Brazilian flag: the official flag and its positivist slogan “Ordem e Progresso” [“Order and Progress”] became a materiality of conservative discourse, whereas progressists had to modify the original representation of that flag in order to produce other meanings.
Drawing on Friedrich Nietzsche’s theorizations of the moral origin of resentment, I present an analysis of affection representations in Toni Morrison’s novel Beloved (1987). In house number 124 on the Bluestone Street, resentment takes the form of a young undead girl; resident in this space, she gains weight, paralyzes time and prevents the other inhabitants of the house from moving on. Resentment in the narrative both summons and displaces the Nietzsche’s theoretical underpinning when it puts on stage the United States\u27 slavery past. Resentment is a poisonous affection that denies any reckoning, updates the past and prevents the dead from dying definitely. However, in the face of historical atrocities, and in accordance with Jean Améry’s works (1977), perhaps the best way to avoid repeating the same mistakes is to allow oneself to be poisoned sometimes.À luz das teorizações de Friedrich Nietzsche sobre a origem moral do ressentimento, apresento uma análise das representações do afeto no romance Amada (1987), de Toni Morrison.
In this article I analyze part of the mail exchange between the writer Stefan Zweig and the psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud, focusing on the themes of literature, psychoanalysis, exile, anti-Semitism, and war. The friendship between these two German-speaking intellectuals comprises the period from 1908 to 1939, the year of Freud\u27s death. These letters were taken from the Spanish book Correspondencia con Sigmund Freud, Rainer Maria Rilke y Arthur Schnitzler (2004), which is a version of the original in German Briefwechsel mit Hermann Bahr, Sigmund Freud, Rainer Maria Rilke und Arthur Schnitzler (1987).Neste artigo faremos uma análise de parte da correspondência trocada entre o escritor Stefan Zweig e o psicanalista Sigmund Freud, contemplando, principalmente, as temáticas referentes à literatura, à psicanálise, ao exílio, ao antissemitismo e à guerra.
Tiago Mata Machado: Uma entrevista
This is an interview with Tiago Mata Machado, an artist and filmmaker from Minas Gerais. It emerged from the interest of asking questions about his way of shooting in the face of the current social and political scenario of an authoritarian government that is opposed to both art and science. The conversation addressed various issues, including the future and meaning of cinema, the relationship between cinema and video art, reflections about Machado’s most recent film Os sonâmbulos [The sleepwalkers] (2018). We can describe Machado’s artistic and cinematographic production as a research about the borders between ethics and aesthetics, pervaded with resistance language and practices.
The article consists of an analysis of the violation of one of the constitutionally foreseen rights and the discourse of resistance to this situation contained in the rap “A era das Chacinas”, which denounces the disrespect of the right to life. To this end, the following concepts were applied: organic intellectual and hegemony (GRAMSCI, 1995); necropolitics (MBEMBE, 2018); and legal inequality in its practice (KANT DE LIMA, 2009). In addition, methodological procedures for the use of music as historical sources were considered (Napolitano, 2002).

This article reports on a semantic-argumentative analysis of the Portuguese-language word mulher [woman] in different enunciative materialities: 1) in the utterances of Soraya Thronicke, a senator from PSL (a far right political party) and president of the group PSL Mulher, and 2) in the utterances of Rede NAMI, a NGO of female graffiti artists which proposes actions for fighting against gender-based violence and fomenting the social leadership of women. The aim is to reflect upon the political functioning of language from a materialistic perspective and understand the different meanings of the word in function of the dispute between the speakers’ different social places and their filiations to distinct ideological positions. By analyzing the unequal distribution of the ways of saying of/about women, we shed light on the opposition between the normativity-driven meanings and those produced by social movements of resistance, such as Rede NAMI.Este trabalho apresenta uma análise semântico-argumentativa da palavra mulher em materialidades enunciativas distintas: 1) o dizer da senadora do PSL Soraya Thronicke, presidente do grupo PSL Mulher, e 2) o dizer da Rede NAMI, uma ONG formada por grafiteiras que propõe ações para o combate da violência de gênero e para o desenvolvimento do protagonismo social da mulher.
By reflecting upon the discourse production conditions, the imagination of/on trans individuals and the temporal landmark of the 2018 elections in Brazil, I aim to analyze the relationship between silencing and resistance of/to the trans body in the virtual space. To this end, I selected two pieces of news posted in digital media, one about the play O Evangelho Segundo Jesus, Rainha do Céu[free translation: The Gospel According to Jesus, Queen of Heaven], which was interdicted in the Winter Festival of Garanhuns, State of Pernambuco, and the other about a ‘travesti’ murder in Sao Paulo. I analyzed these pieces to understand the dispute of meanings involving the trans corporeality based on the theoretical framework provided by the Materialist Discourse Analysis. Complementarily, I analyzed the comments on the news, as this is a space where the individuals, under the illusion that everything can be said, produce discourses in tune with the trans cause or hate discourses that delegitimize, make silent and displace meanings about such bodies.
Drawing on the epistemological bases of the black feminist thought, this essay emais to bring into focus the resistance of black women to oppressions. It addresses the following question: How have critical class consciousness, gender identity, ethno-racial belonging characterized the resistance of black women against the intersectional oppression of gender, race and class in the context of class struggle? The methodology used was review of literature. The essay presents the intersectionality, resistance and liberation that make up black feminism and contribute to understanding the oppression condition experienced by black women, their struggle against this oppression and its consequent liberation from it.
