Taxation of cryptocurrencies; challenges and solutions in a global regulatory framework
[ENG] In an increasingly volatile and competitive environment, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) must cultivate strong entrepreneurial competences to adapt effectively to ongoing market changes. These competences, grounded in organisational learning, innovation, and customer orientation, are shaped by how firms manage their talent and structure their internal operations. This study proposes an integrated model linking talent management to entrepreneurial competences, identifying cross-functional teams, organisational commitment, and employee professionalism as key mediating factors, while also examining the moderating influence of environmental dynamism. Based on survey data from 1,721 CEOs of Spanish SMEs across major economic sectors, the results show that firms investing in the attraction, development, and retention of talent demonstrate stronger entrepreneurial competences. These effects are further reinforced when collaboration within cross-functional teams and high levels of commitment and professionalism are present—particularly in more stable environments. The findings highlight the strategic value of proactive human capital management, cohesive multidisciplinary teams, and the promotion of commitment and professionalism as essential drivers of innovation and sustained competitiveness in today’s dynamic business context. This research was supported by Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Funder Identifier: https://doi.org/10.13039/501100002911) Grant number: PR12/24-31559. The spaces of the panocho side in Cartagena and its countryside
[ENG] Recently, the Panocho bando has been declared an asset of intangible cultural interest. This study aims to make known the results of the reading of the «bando panocho» as a social phenomenon in the streets and squares where it has been doing, in various locations in the Campo de Cartagena, including it capital and several of its districts. This is the proclamation that a fake local mayor addresses to the local inhabitants, who come to listen to him at the usual place. This local mayor or «perráneo» speaks, in a festive atmosphere and in a joking tone, sometimes despite censorship, about the issues that have occurred in the town or city, which are therefore of interest to the residents, and in the speech of the common people, in which the public recognizes their ancestral roots. The texts of such bands therefore have great traditional and ethnographic value. Rarely has a sociocultural phenomenon had the regional impact that the reading of the «bando panocho» has had. Following the example of Murcia capital, where it began in 1851, this phenomenon spread to others municipalities and hamlets, constituting a clear source of regional identity. The research was conducted by consulting various publications, as well as interviewing people from different municipalities and districts. The spaces (streets, squares, parades...) where the «bando panocho» has been read in different municipalities and districts are described, and It is spoken about the authors and about those who have recited them, sometimes including a paragraph from such «bandos». The main conclusion is that, in effect, the «bando panocho» has fostered socialization wherever it has taken place
Processing information in simulated environments for decision making in autonomous vehicles
[ENG] This Final Degree Project develops a communication architecture between the CARLA autonomous-driving simulator and the embedded platform NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin, using the robotic operating system ROS 2 and the “carla-ros-bridge” as the interoperability gateway. The main goal is to facilitate academic research on autonomous vehicles through realistic simulations and remote manual control, reducing the costs and risks of physical testing and enabling both Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) scenarios in a reproducible manner. The project begins with a comprehensive review of the state of the art in autonomous driving, including the historical evolution of the field, SAE autonomy levels, commonly used sensors (cameras, LiDAR, RADAR, GPS, IMU, and odometry), and perception techniques based on artificial intelligence and deep learning. It also surveys available simulators, highlighting CARLA for its open-source nature, flexibility, and compatibility with ROS 2. On the hardware side, several processing platforms are evaluated, selecting NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin for its high performance, scalability, and integrated toolchain (DriveOS and DriveWorks). The installation, configuration, and bring-up of the platform are documented in detail, including the resolution of technical issues. The implementation fixes versions and deployment procedures to ensure repeatability. Two scripts are developed: one on CARLA (v0.9.13) that simulates the environment and vehicle sensors, and another on the Orin that enables remote manual vehicle control via ROS 2 (Foxy). The system establishes bidirectional communication between both ends, allowing command transmission from the Orin and the reception of sensor data from CARLA. Results are visualized in RViz2, confirming correct integration and system operation. The outcomes confirm the viability and effectiveness of the integration: the simulated vehicle is controlled from the Orin, stable sensor streams are received, and full traceability is available for diagnostics and improvement. The architecture is modular and extensible, lowering barriers to entry for university teams and providing a solid foundation for advancing perception, sensor fusion, and control. Finally, future work includes integrating a simulation steering wheel to enable manual control by reading its outputs, extracting sensor data streams for on-platform analysis, and progressively transferring the solution to the VAVI laboratory’s real vehicle.Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería IndustrialUniversidad Politécnica de Cartagen
River transport of Hg as a potential contamination pathway for sediments, soils and vegetation: management practices
River systems, besides shaping their landscapes through the formation of Fluvisols, can also act as pathways for transporting significant pollutants, affecting both the river and its surrounding areas. One such pollutant is mercury (Hg). To assess the impact on sediments and adjacent riverbanks, including Fluvisols and their vegetation, the alluvial plains near Poland’s most important river have been studied to understand this process and propose effective management measures. Additionally, basic soil properties, iron forms, and the mineralogical composition of the clay fraction were analysed. The risk of mercury contamination was assessed using the contamination factor, enrichment factor, geoaccumulation index, and ecological risk factor. The bioaccumulation and translocation factors were used to gauge mercury accumulation in herbs. Mercury contamination in the Vistula River and its floodplain soils is generally moderate, with localised hotspots near the confluence with the Bug River, primarily caused by industrial, agricultural, and cross-border activities. The retention and movement of mercury are heavily influenced by soil composition, especially smectite, iron oxides, the clay fraction, and organic matter, as well as land use and flooding patterns. Effective soil management in these floodplains should focus on reducing disturbance in smectite-rich areas, increasing organic content and the stability of iron oxides, and applying erosion and flood control methods. Prioritising soil conservation and nature-based solutions can significantly lower mercury risks in floodplain regions. Ongoing monitoring and research are essential for the sustainable management of floodplain ecosystems. This work was supported by the European Union's Horizon 2020 Framework Programme – research and innovation programme (H2020-EU.3.2.1. – Sustainable agriculture and forestry) – [grant number 817819]: ‘SoildiverAgro – Soil biodiversity enhancement in European agroecosystems to promote their stability and resilience by external inputs reduction and crop performance increase′
Conditional generative adversarial network for segmentation and image reconstruction of grape berries in variable illumination conditions
One of the most significant challenges faced by computer vision algorithm developers is effectively handling images captured in variable illumination scenarios, which may include poorly lit environments, object occlusions, reflections, or even partial visibility. The introduction of deep learning techniques has marked an unprecedented advance in segmentation, identification, and object reconstruction in such environments. This research presents a deep learning architecture based on a Conditional Generative Adversarial Network (cGAN) specifically designed for various grape berry segmentation varieties under any illumination conditions. It exploits a dedicated data collection for training and testing the cGAN segmentation model, that consists of 25,350 images of five grape berry varieties, divided into two sets: 20,350 for training and 5,000 for testing. To evaluate the impact of convolution kernel sizes on the segmentation process within the GAN architecture, six models were trained using kernel sizes of 2x2, 4x4, 6x6, 8x8, 10x10, and 12x12. Five metrics (accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, and IoU) were employed to facilitate comparison of result with similar segmentation methods. The metrics have been calculated on a dataset with images in variable illumination conditions and in five specific scenarios with images categorized as: (a) good illumination, (b) poor illumination; (c) lack of illumination; (d) noisy image and (e) noisy and poor illumination. Among all the assessed model configurations, the cGAN model with a convolution kernel size of 6x6 exhibited the best performance on the test set, achieving the following metrics: accuracy of 0.9970, precision of 0.9862, recall of 1.0000, F1-score of 0.9930, and IoU of 0.9813. Notably, when compared to other similar grape segmentation studies, the Pix2Pix architecture utilized in this work consistently delivered the best results across all the evaluated metrics. Furthermore, the proposed architecture is able to reconstruct images obtained under noisy and poor illumination conditions indicating its great potential under difficult settings. This research was funded by Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovacion, BFU 2017–88300-C2-1-R to Marcos Egea-Cortines, BFU 2017–88300-C2-2-R and Horecov-21 to Pedro J. An algorithm to calculate the geometry of the roots of Hurwitz-symmetric polynomials
This work introduces an algorithm for analyzing the geometry of the roots of Hurwitz-symmetric polynomials, with an emphasis on counting the number of pure imaginary roots and determining their multiplicities. The approach is based on generating a Euclidean remainder sequence, which is closely related to continued fraction formulations and the Bezoutian criterion. This method provides a comprehensive framework for studying the root geometry of Hurwitz-symmetric polynomials, enabling the identification of marginal stability or instability in a broad sense. The proposed algorithm is particularly relevant in the analysis and control of linear time-invariant time-delayed systems (LTI-TDS) with commensurate delays, where the distribution of roots of the characteristic quasi-polynomial determines stability behavior. By addressing the multiplicities of pure imaginary roots, this work offers valuable insights for stability analysis and robust system design. The work was supported by the Ministry of Science and [Innovation (MCIN) [PID2023-149066NB-I00]
Versatile and Highly Efficient MRI Simulation of Arbitrary Motion in KomaMRI
Purpose: To extend the KomaMRI simulator with motion capabilities that enable the simulation of both simple, parametrizablemotion patterns and arbitrarily complex spin trajectories. Additionally, we introduce a novel file format for storing and sharingdynamic digital phantoms.
Methods: The existing Phantom structure in KomaMRI has been extended with a new motion field, which preserves supportfor static phantoms and introduces the capability to define dynamic models, composed of either a single or an arbitrary set ofelementary motions. Each motion entry is composed of an action, a time curve, and a spin span, allowing for modular definition andfull parameter independence across motion components. An HDF5-based phantom file format has been defined, along with twoI/O functions within the simulator. Motion-related MRI experiments have been conducted for both illustrative and comparativeevaluation.
Results: Illustrative experiments reveal motion-related effects commonly observed in real MRI, such as time of flight and phasecontrast. Comparative evaluations show strong qualitative and quantitative agreement with results reported by other simulationtools and with at least a three-fold reduction in computation time.
Conclusions: The proposed extension adds flexible motion modeling and simulation capabilities to KomaMRI. The proposednew functions allow for accurate and high temporal and spatial resolution, only limited by computational cost. This work was supported by the Fondo Nacional de Desarrollo Científico y Tecnológico (Grant Nos. 1210747, 3240576, ICN2021_004), the AgenciaEstatal de Investigación (Grant Nos. Nuclear applications of tungsten alloys
Design of a photovoltaic installation with BESS to cover the electrical demand of an stand-alone countryside house
