Behavioral Safety in a Dental Surgery Facility
Dentists, dental surgeons, and dental assistants are routinely exposed to contaminants, disease, and infections. Another health risk these professionals experience is the time spent sitting in ergonomically at-risk postures. In the current study, a checklist with critical behaviors and behavioral products (results of behaviors) was used to assess the level of safety in a dental surgery office with seven employees. After baseline observations, task clarification, verbal and graphical feedback, goal setting and tangible reinforcers were used to improve the safety related behaviors of the employees. For all items on the checklist, the percent safe during baseline was 79.57%. During intervention, the mean percent safe was 88.88%, and the final level was 95%. Follow-up observations showed a decline in percent safe after the feedback ended. Three of the four partial indices of the checklist showed improvements of 12% to 33% in percent safe

DIGIWELL project was born out of observed need to develop tools and methodsto improve university teachers’ well-being in relation to their work, technology,and digital transformation. The concept of digital well-being in this workbookrefers to positive as well as negative effects of technology to an individual.Digital transformation is a process that implies changes meant to increaseefficiency of work at different levels: individual, organisational, and societal.It generates more competitivity, creates opportunities, but it also introducesdisruptions. Use of digital technology can have an impact on people’shealth, well-being, life-work balance, and career choices. The necessityto adapt to technology is a two bladed sword – it promotes developmentand causes frustration and costs such as financial and personal.In higher education, well-being of teachers and staff may be influenced bythe pressure to constantly adjust to new technologies. Also new teachingrequirements and competences increase demands in teaching. The hybrideducational model combines in-personlearning with online education wherestudents are responsible for their ownlearning has emerged. Specific digitalcompetences should be developedboth by students and professors for abetter adaptation to today’s society.Use of technology and digital tools impactsall aspects of well-being outlined by PERMAmodel (Seligman, 2011): Positive Emotion,Engagement, Relationships, Meaning,and Accomplishment. Well-being reflectshow people subjectively think and feelabout their life, what they have, and whathappens to them. Another side of well-being in digital context is techno-stress(Tarafdar, Pullins & Ragu-Nathan, 2015) which consists of phenomena liketechno-overload, techno-invasion, techno-complexity, techno-insecurityand techno-uncertainty. Higher education institutions could offer supportto teachers and help to decrease technostress with the means of digitalliteracy facilitation (meaning support for being up to date), technical supportprovision, and involvement facilitation (so that no one is left alone).Many causes of technostress can be traced back to structural issues andchanges in society. Mentoring programmes can be used as an effectiveway of organisational change. Electricity cost and CO2 savings potential for chlor-alkali electrolysis plants: Benefits of electricity price dependent demand response
Chlor-alkali electrolysis plays a significant role in Germany's electricity demand, with a share of >2%. It offers a promising avenue for leveraging demand response strategies. In times of escalating electricity prices, load shifting can help to maintain economic competitiveness of domestic industries. This study aims to assess the potential for electricity cost savings and related CO2 emission reductions through optimal load shifting practices for chlor-alkali electrolysis, considering both current and projected future electricity prices. The research employs the mixed-integer energy system modeling framework IRPopt to model and optimize a chlorine value chain under various scenarios. A sensitivity analysis is conducted to identify the primary factors driving electricity cost savings. The findings reveal that, based on the 2019 electricity price distribution (before pandemic and energy crisis), load shifting can yield electricity cost savings of 5.8% and CO2 emission reductions of 2.7%. As the share of variable renewable energy sources increases along with other driving factors, the electricity price spread is projected to rise from 28% in 2019 to an average of 87% in 2040 scenarios. Consequently, electricity cost savings rise up to 22% and CO2 emission reductions up to 10%. The primary drivers behind electricity cost savings include electricity price spreads and the utilization and operating range of the electrolyzer. In addition to the business-level advantages, the resulting decrease in residual load and lower CO2 emissions contribute to the integration of variable renewable energy sources and the achievement of decarbonization targets at the economic level

Pandemic - Measures and Consequences: Increased Global Inequality and Violations of Human Rights
This chapter explores the enduring impact of the global pandemic and its far-reaching consequences. The pandemic disrupted the world, exposing inequalities inherent in globalization and the privileged lifestyles of the Global North. Global inequality, rooted in colonialism and capitalism, persisted, with the pandemic exacerbating disparities. The crisis not only affected health but also strained families and exacerbated gender inequalities. In the Global South, vulnerable populations faced economic hardship and inadequate healthcare. The pandemic intensified the global education crisis, disproportionately impacting girls. Moreover, human rights violations became apparent as states and institutions failed to meet their obligations. Structural inequalities and unequal access to healthcare underscored the need for a more comprehensive human rights approach in social work. Social work must address structural inequalities, prioritize community-based solutions, and advocate for international solidarity and new legal mechanisms to protect human rights in crises. It must also confront its colonial past and decolonize curricula. As we navigate ongoing crises, social work must take on a transformative role, working alongside marginalized communities to advocate for a more just and equitable society
