Synthesis, spectroscopic analysis and in silico biological studies of new steroid conjugates containing triazole systems

Związki inspirowane terapeutycznym potencjałem steroidów, kwasów żółciowych i zasad pirymidynowych połączono pierścieniami 1,2,3-triazolowymi z wykorzystaniem chemii „click”. Rozprawa obejmuje przegląd literatury oraz badania eksperymentalne i obliczeniowe. Omówiono znaczenie biokoniugatów steroidowych, takich jak skwalamina, w terapiach oraz zastosowanie chemii „click” do modyfikacji steroli i kwasów żółciowych. Podkreślono ich rolę jako inhibitorów enzymów i potencjalnych leków przeciwinfekcyjnych. W części badawczej opracowano trzy grupy związków: koniugaty kwasów żółciowych i steroli o przewidywanej aktywnościrzeciwgrzybiczej i przeciwbakteryjnej, quasi-podandy do zastosowań w nanotechnologii oraz hybrydy steroidowo-pirymidynowe o potencjale przeciwnowotworowym i przeciwdrobnoustrojowym. Analizy spektroskopowe (NMR, FT-IR, MS) oraz obliczenia teoretyczne potwierdziły poprawność struktur. Badania in silico wykazały szerokie spektrum aktywności biologicznej, m.in. przeciwnowotworowej i przeciwzapalnej. Praca wnosi wkład w rozwój chemii bioorganicznej i projektowanie wielofunkcyjnych związków terapeutycznych.
The thesis focuses on the design, synthesis and characterisation of novel steroid bioconjugates. Inspired by the therapeutic potential of steroids, bile acids and pyrimidine bases, these compounds were linked via 1,2,3-triazole rings using „click” chemistry. The thesis includes a literature review and original experimental and computational studies.
The review highlights the importance of steroid bioconjugates such as squalamine in pharmacological therapies, focusing on „click” chemistry to modify bile acids and sterols. This approach enables the formation of stable, bioactive supramolecular structures. The study also examines recent advances in steroid-triazole conjugates as enzyme inhibitors and potential anti-infective drugs.
The research section presents three groups of new compounds: bile acid-sterol conjugates with antifungal and antibacterial properties, quasi-podands with potential applications in nanotechnology and drug delivery, and steroid-pyrimidine hybrids (with uracil and 2-thiouracil) targeting lipid metabolism enzymes for possible anticancer, antimicrobial, and dermatological therapies.
Spectral analyses (NMR, FT-IR, MS) and theoretical calculations confirmed the structural correctness and chemical stability. In silico studies (PASS, molecular docking) revealed broad biological activities, including anticancer, antimicrobial, cytoprotective, and anti-inflammatory effects. The Trauma of the Holocaust as a Post-Traumatic Phenomenon in Israel-Poland Relations in the Years 1989-2020
No full textWydział HistoriiPamięć o Holokauście jest kluczowym czynnikiem w kulturze izraelskiej. Jednocześnie należy podkreślić, że podejście do pamięci o Holokauście zmieniało się na przestrzeni lat. W pierwszej dekadzie istnienia państwa Izrael kwestia Holokaustu była ignorowana z wielu względów, kiedy konieczne było budowanie nowej świadomości narodu, w którym negacja mentalności wygnańców była fundamentalną zasadą. Dopiero po procesie Eichmanna (1961) nastąpił zwrot w takim podejściu.
Również w Polsce II wojna światowa jest wciąż obecna w dyskursie historycznym, ale akcenty narracji są odmienne. Kwestia stosunku Polaków do Żydów wciąż budzi w Polsce kontrowersje. Czy Polacy byli ofiarami, sprawcami, czy po prostu byli obojętni na los Żydów? Tego rodzaju rozważania pokazują, że historia Żydów była nieobecna w koncepcji polskiej przeszłości narodowej, a jej włączanie do pamięci zostało zapoczątkowane przez swoistego rodzaju aktywistów dopiero w 1989 r. Drugie pokolenie tych „aktywistów pamięci” w Polsce wzywa do włączenia żydowskiej przeszłości do polskiej historii, ale aspiracje te są blokowane przez inne grupy, dążące do zachowania dominującej narracji o Polakach jako ofiarach. Stało się wręcz dominującą narracją władz państwowych po 2015 r. Swoistego rodzaju rywalizacja między Żydami a Polakami, a tym samym między Izraelem a Polską jest de facto walką o pamięć, pamięć o Holokauście i prawdę znaczeniu Holokaustu w historii Polaków i Żydów.
The memory of the Holocaust is a key factor in Israeli culture. At the same time, it should be emphasized that attitudes toward Holocaust remembrance have changed over the years. In the first decade of Israel's existence, the issue of the Holocaust was ignored for many reasons, when it was necessary to build a new national consciousness in which the rejection of the exile mentality was a fundamental principle. It was only after the Eichmann trial (1961) that there was a shift in this approach. In Poland, too, World War II is still present in historical discourse, but the emphasis of the narrative is different. The question of the Poles' attitude towards Jews is still controversial in Poland. Were Poles victims, perpetrators, or simply indifferent to the fate of Jews? Such considerations show that Jewish history was absent from the concept of Poland's national past, and its inclusion in the national memory was initiated by a kind of activist movement only in 1989. The second generation of these “memory activists” in Poland is calling for the inclusion of the Jewish past in Polish history, but these aspirations are being blocked by other groups seeking to preserve the dominant narrative of Poles as victims. This has even become the dominant narrative of the state authorities since 2015. A kind of rivalry between Jews and Poles, and thus between Israel and Poland, is in fact a struggle for memory, memory of the Holocaust and the truth about the significance of the Holocaust in the history of Poles and Jews

The book contains the academically compiled minutes of meetings of the Council of Ministers of the Duchy of Warsaw from the first half of 1810.
The Minutes of the Council of Ministers illustrate the activities of the governmental authorities of the Duchy of Warsaw and make it possible to follow the changes taking place in the functioning of the central authorities of that state. They are an indispensable source for various studies on the history of Poland of that period. Celem badawczym przeprowadzonych rozważań było sprecyzowanie przyczyn i przejawów podwójnych standardów w dostępie do procedur związanych z udzielaniem ochrony międzynarodowej w Polsce oraz określenie w sposób empiryczny ich wpływu na działalność INGOs w kontekście kryzysów migracyjnych na polskiej granicy z Białorusią i Ukrainą. W badaniach wprowadzono pojęcie selektywnego humanitaryzmu, odnoszące się do zróżnicowanego dostępu do procedur ubiegania się o ochronę międzynarodową oraz pomocy humanitarnej.
The dissertation analyzes the research problem within Polish asylum policy and the state's response to migration crises in the years 2021-2023. The research aim was to clarify the causes and manifestations of dual standards in access to procedures related to granting international protection in Poland, and empirically determine their impact on the activities of INGOs in the context of migration crises on Poland’s borders with Belarus and Ukraine. The concept of selective humanitarianism was introduced in the study, referring to the differentiated access to procedures for seeking international protection and humanitarian assistance
"Uplifting the Nation": Karola Gajda's Are My Roots Showing? as a Modified Practice of "the New Behalfism"
No full textAlong with Benedict Anderson’s formulation of the concept of ‘imagined communities’, a new interest in questions concerning representations of national identities could be observed. An important notion to be addressed is how/to what degree various representatives of a specific literary field were/are willing to contribute to that kind of debates. Of some interest, in the above context, would be to observe the inscriptions and imagery used by the novelists of referential fiction that run parallel to certain ‘mythmaking’ projections of a given nationhood, constructed often at the expense of more adequate depictions of national identity. With this in mind, the following paper presents a socio-cultural critique of one such writer, namely Karola Gajda. Studying her novel Are My Roots Showing?, I examine how adequate her reasoning and the ways she [re]imagined contemporary Poland as well as its collective mindset are.Polish-AngloSaxon Studie
Preparation and characterization of cosmetic formulations containing substances from the sesquiterpene lactone group incorporated into lipid nanoparticles
No full textWydział ChemiiW ramach pracy badawczej opracowano nanocząstki lipidowe jako nośniki dla substancji aktywnych z grupy laktonów seskwiterpenowych – kostunolidu i laktonu dehydrokostusowego. Celem badań było zwiększenie przenikania tych związków przez skórę, poprawa ich stabilności oraz kontrola uwalniania. Otrzymane nanocząstki poddano analizie właściwości fizykochemicznych i biologicznych, określono efektywność enkapsulacji, stabilność układów oraz profil uwalniania substancji. Następnie włączono je do nowych formulacji kosmetycznych i porównano z preparatami zawierającymi te same związki w formie nieenkapsulowanej. Wyniki badań przenikania przezskórnego wykazały, że zastosowanie nanocząstek lipidowych znacząco zwiększa transport substancji aktywnych i umożliwia ich stopniowe uwalnianie w miejscu docelowym. Badania aplikacyjne potwierdziły dobrą tolerancję opracowanych preparatów oraz ich korzystny wpływ na parametry skóry. Uzyskane rezultaty dowodzą, że nanocząstki lipidowe stanowią skuteczny i stabilny system dostarczania laktonów seskwiterpenowych w preparatach kosmetycznych i leczniczych.
In this research work, lipid nanoparticles were developed as carriers for active compounds from the group of sesquiterpene lactones – costunolide and dehydrocostus lactone. The aim of the study was to enhance the skin penetration of these compounds, improve their stability, and control their release. The obtained nanoparticles were characterized in terms of their physicochemical and biological properties, encapsulation efficiency, system stability, and release profile. They were then incorporated into new cosmetic formulations and compared with preparations containing the same compounds in a non-encapsulated form. The results of the transdermal penetration studies demonstrated that the use of lipid nanoparticles significantly increased the transport of active substances and enabled their gradual release at the target site. Application tests confirmed good skin tolerance of the developed formulations and their beneficial effect on skin parameters. The obtained results indicate that lipid nanoparticles represent an effective and stable delivery system for sesquiterpene lactones in cosmetic and therapeutic formulations
Negotiating the Unfamiliar: Translation of Lafcadio Hearn's Some Chinese Ghosts in Early Twentieth-Century Poland
No full textThis article provides a comparative reading of Lafcadio Hearn's Some Chinese Ghosts (1887) and Bajki chińskie (1913), its Polish translation by L. M. Brzozowska, in the light of transnationalism, translation, and transfer studies. It focuses on the rendering of cultural realities (foreignisation/domestication) and negotiating the unfamiliar aspects of the original in translation for young audiences, asking about children's literature translators’ visibility as intermediaries between cultures and the cultural mediation of English. Book Lists Between Ideologies: Power Games and Canon Changes in Children’s Translated Literature in Poland (1929–1951)
No full textItamar Even-Zohar argues that when new literary models emerge, it is translation that often becomes the means of expanding the literary repertoire, especially in those periods in the history of literature when turning points and moments of crisis occur. This paper addresses two such turning points in the Polish culture: the regaining of independence (1918) and the proclamation of the Polish People's Republic (1945). Juvenile literature of the interwar period was subjected to various ideologizing strategies, the most notable of which was the official one expressed in The List of Books Recommended for School Libraries (1929). After WWII, when the communist ideology was proclaimed, the authorities created another list, namely The Inventory of Books to be Immediately Withdrawn (1951)-the secret document disclosed only afterthe year 2000. Our paper aims to compare these two lists to examine how the collision of ideologies shaped children's translated literature in Poland: which languages dominated the translations; which titles were to be withdrawn after 1951 and which were retained; what reasons may have been underlying the censors' decisions and what impact they had on the canon of juvenile literature; what was the rhetoric of justifications and how to interpret the lists with regard to the canonization techniques.
