    All-mode renormalization for tensor network with stochastic noise

    In usual (nonstochastic) tensor network calculations, the truncated singular value decomposition is often used for approximating a tensor, and it causes systematic errors. By introducing stochastic noise in the approximation, however, one can avoid such systematic errors at the expense of statistical errors, which can be straightforwardly controlled. Therefore in principle, exact results can be obtained even at finite bond dimension up to the statistical errors. A previous study of the unbiased method implemented in tensor renormalization group algorithm, however, showed that the statistical errors for physical quantity are not negligible, and furthermore the computational cost is linearly proportional to a system volume. In this paper, we introduce a new way of stochastic noise such that the statistical error is suppressed, and moreover, in order to reduce the computational cost we propose common noise method whose cost is proportional to the logarithm of volume. We find that the method provides better accuracy for the free energy compared with the truncated singular value decomposition when applying to tensor renormalization group for Ising model on square lattice. Although the common noise method introduces systematic error originated from a correlation of noises, we show that the error can be described by a simple functional form in terms of the number of noises, thus the error can be straightforwardly controlled in an actual analysis. We also apply the method to the graph independent local truncation algorithm and show that the accuracy is further improved.journal articl

    Characteristic stacked structures and luminescent properties of dinuclear lanthanide complexes with pyrene units

    A novel design strategy of stacked organic fluorophores using dinuclear lanthanide (Ln(III)) complexes is demonstrated for the formation of excimer. The dinuclear Ln(III) complexes are composed of two Ln(III) (Eu(III) or Gd(III)) ions, six hexafluoroacetylacetonate (hfa), and two pyrene-based phosphine oxide ligands. Single-crystal analysis revealed a rigid pyrene-stacked structure via CH-F (pyrene/hfa) intramolecular interactions. The rigid aggregation structures of the two-typed organic ligands around Ln(III) resulted in high thermal stability (decomposition temperature: 340°C). The aggregated ligands exhibited excimer-type green emission from the stacked pyrene-center. The change in the Ln(III) ion promotes effective shifts of excimer emissions (Gd(III):500 nm, Eu(III):490 nm). The organic aggregation system using red-luminescent Eu(III) also provides temperature-sensitive ratiometric emission composed of π-π* and 4f-4f transitions by energy migration between aggregated ligands and Eu(III).journal articl

    CircRNAs and RNA-Binding Proteins Involved in the Pathogenesis of Cancers or Central Nervous System Disorders

    Circular RNAs (circRNAs), a newly recognized group of noncoding RNA transcripts, have established widespread attention due to their regulatory role in cell signaling. They are covalently closed noncoding RNAs that form a loop, and are typically generated during the splicing of precursor RNAs. CircRNAs are key post-transcriptional and post-translational regulators of gene expression programs that might influence cellular response and/or function. In particular, circRNAs have been considered to function as sponges of specific miRNA, regulating cellular processes at the post-transcription stage. Accumulating evidence has shown that the aberrant expression of circRNAs could play a key role in the pathogenesis of several diseases. Notably, circRNAs, microRNAs, and several RNA-binding proteins, including the antiproliferative (APRO) family proteins, could be indispensable gene modulators, which might be strongly linked to the occurrence of diseases. In addition, circRNAs have attracted general interest for their stability, abundance in the brain, and their capability to cross the blood–brain barrier. Here, we present the current findings and theragnostic potentials of circRNAs in several diseases. With this, we aim to provide new insights to support the development of novel diagnostic and/or therapeutic strategies for these diseases.journal articl

    Ecosystem carbon dioxide exchange and water use efficiency in a triple-cropping rice paddy in Southern India: A two-year field observation

    The lowland tropical triple-cropping rice system has unique characteristics that affect the hydrological, nutrient, and atmospheric environments. To better understand the ecosystem carbon and water dynamics of a triple-cropping rice paddy from the perspective of sustainability, ecosystem-level CO2 flux and ecosystem water use efficiency (eWUE) were observed using eddy covariance over 2 years (2016–2018) at an experimental field site in southern India, and gross primary production (GPP) and ecosystem respiration (RE) were derived using the flux partitioning technique. Results showed that among the three crop seasons per year, GPP and RE were higher (887.2 and 570.2 g C m−2, respectively) in Thaladi (October–January: wet season) than in Kuruvai (June–September: dry season; 773.4 and 568.9 g C m−2, respectively) and summer rice (February–May; 694.0 and 499.7 g C m−2, respectively) owing to the longer growing season. Triple-cropping meant that the quasi-annual GPP of 2598 g C m−2 (i.e., the total value for the three consecutive seasons, including the corresponding fallow periods) was much greater than the quasi-annual RE of 1974 g C m−2. Consequently, the net ecosystem production value was positive (624 g C m−2). Evapotranspiration was also high on the annual scale (1681 mm); that is, 48 % greater than mean annual precipitation (1139 mm). Analysis revealed that Thaladi had higher eWUE (2.21 g C (kg H2O)−1) than that of Kuruvai (1.46 g C (kg H2O)−1) and summer rice (1.57 g C (kg H2O)−1) owing to decreased water loss in cloudy weather. Intense solar radiation is generally recognized as advantageous for crop growth in most regions, but not for Kuruvai and summer rice, when too strong solar radiation increases loss of water unused for photosynthesis. The findings indicate that water-saving techniques should be targeted on the Kuruvai and summer rice seasons.journal articl

    Long-term all-sky-camera images and evaluated cloud-cover data at Syowa Station, Antarctica

    We acquired fish-eye camera (referred to as all-sky-camera) images for detection of cloud distribution in the entire sky and also for use as reference data for optical observations (i.e., sky radiometry and micro-pulse lidar observations) conducted at Syowa Station (69°00′S, 39°35′E), Antarctica, from 2006 to 2022 as a part of a scientific project entitled, “Monitoring observations of the Antarctic aerosols and clouds” as part of the Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition (JARE) program. We evaluated the cloud cover in all the images captured over this period using an objective algorithm based on the brightness of the RGB colors of the images. The importance of cloud properties in climate change models is well known, and obtaining long-term information on cloud properties is important for atmospheric monitoring over Antarctica. This paper describes the archives of all-sky-camera images, evaluated cloud-cover images, and text data of time series of evaluated cloud amounts for this period. Compared with eye observation, the evaluated cloud amounts from the all-sky-camera are underestimated by about 10%. Still, the so-called “U-shaped” frequency distribution is common, where the frequency increases near the maximum and minimum cloud amounts. In addition, we briefly touch on the method of cloud detection.
