A Giant Stent for Giant Cerebral Aneurysms—The Accero®-Rex-Stent
Objective: Until now, giant intracranial aneurysms (GIAs) have in many cases been a vascular disease that was difficult or impossible to treat, not least due to the lack of availability of a large-format stent. In this multicentre study, we report on the first five clinical applications of the Accero®-Rex-Stents (Acandis, Pforzheim, Germany) in the successful treatment of fusiform cerebral giant aneurysms. Material and Methods: The Accero®-Rex-Stents are self-expanding, braided, fully radiopaque Nitinol stents designed for aneurysm treatment. The stent is available in three different sizes (diameter 7–10 mm, length 30–60 mm) and intended for endovascular implantation in vessels with diameters of 5.5–10 mm. Results: Five patients (all male, age 54.4 ± 8.1 years) with large fusiform aneurysms of the posterior circulation were treated endovascularly using the Accero®-Rex-Stents. There were no technical complications. One major ischemic complication occurred. A significant remodeling and reduction in the size of the stent-covered aneurysms was already seen in the short-term post-interventional course. Conclusions: The Accero®-Rex-Stents were successfully and safely implanted in all five patients with fusiform giant aneurysms, showing technical feasibility with promising initial results and significant aneurysm size reduction in already available follow-up imaging. Key point: With the Accero-Rex-Stents, a new device is available that offers another treatment option for rare cerebral fusiform giant aneurysms with very large parent vessels

Claims concerning the "autonomy" of art - or, more precisely of literature - have been raised either for certain works of art or literature that are assumed to be bound by no other laws but their own as they could not and must not be judged by any external measure, or, in a more general sense, regarding a set of literary or aesthetic practises in the production, reception or criticism of such works, which are, again, assumed to be bound by no other laws but their own, albeit in this case not the individual norms of certain works, but rather generic norms of the relevant literary genres or even more generally social conventions of literary or aesthetic communication. The autonomy of literature in this latter sense is embeddeded into the normative framework of modern aesthetic practices, but within the modern institutional setting of the rule of law it is necessarily also subject to positive laws that guarantee and delimit it
Complications and Outcomes in 39,864 Patients Receiving Standard Care Plus Mechanical Circulatory Support or Standard Care Alone for Infarct-Associated Cardiogenic Shock
Background: Temporary mechanical circulatory support devices (tMCS) are increasingly being used in patients with infarct-associated cardiogenic shock (AMICS). Evidence on patient selection, complications and long-term outcomes is lacking. We aim to investigate differences in clinical characteristics, complications and outcomes between patients receiving no tMCS or either intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP), veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (V-A ECMO) or Impella® for AMICS, with a particular focus on long-term outcomes. Methods: Using health claim data from AOK—Die Gesundheitskasse (local health care funds), we retrospectively analysed complications and outcomes of all insured patients with AMICS between 1 January 2010 and 31 December 2017. Results: A total of 39,864 patients were included (IABP 5451; Impella 776; V-A ECMO 833; no tMCS 32,804). In-hospital complications, including renal failure requiring dialysis (50.3% V-A ECMO vs. 30.5% Impella vs. 29.2 IABP vs. 12.1% no tMCS), major bleeding (38.1% vs. 20.9% vs. 18.0% vs. 9.3%) and sepsis (22.5% vs. 15.9% vs. 13.9% vs. 9.3%) were more common in V-A ECMO patients. In a multivariate analysis, the use of both V-A ECMO (HR 1.57, p < 0.001) and Impella (HR 1.25, p < 0.001) were independently associated with long-term mortality, whereas use of IABP was not (HR 0.89, p < 0.001). Kaplan–Meier estimates showed better survival for patients on IABP compared with Impella, V-A ECMO and no-tMCS. Short- and long-term mortality was high across all groups. Conclusions: Our data show noticeably more in-hospital complications in patients on tMCS and higher mortality with V-A ECMO and Impella. The use of both devices is an independent risk factor for mortality, whereas the use of IABP is associated with a survival benefit

Designing e-learning courses for classroom and distance learning in physics: The role of learning tasks
Digital learning technologies have grown increasingly important in physics education, partly enforced through the COVID-19 pandemic. During the pandemic, digital technologies allowed for continued teaching and learning of students even when schools were closed. While research in psychology and educational technology has yielded many insights into the effectiveness of e-learning courses, fewer studies have examined the design of e-learning courses. Few studies have empirically investigated the design of learning tasks as a central element of e-learning courses. The present study analyzes how the design of tasks in e-learning courses, specifically with respect to their degree of openness as well as the relevance of their contexts, influences students' behavioral engagement, learning outcomes, and situational interest. Due to the importance of e-learning courses during the COVID-19 pandemic, we also analyzed the extent to which specific learning settings (classroom learning, distance learning) influence the effects of e-learning course design on students’ behavioral engagement, learning outcomes, and situational interest. To investigate the research questions, we analyzed a total of N=1060 datasets for 12 different e-learning courses (3 to 5 lessons, middle school physics), of which n=557 were completed before and n=503 during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results suggest that e-learning courses with a high proportion of learning tasks that relate to meaningful real-world contexts appear to be more conducive to behavioral engagement, learning outcomes, and situational interest. Regarding the consideration of open-ended tasks, the results suggest that these appear to be more useful for classroom learning but should be used in a limited way when designing e-learning courses for distance education
– some insights into the guest book of the German excavations in Babylon
Studies on the reception of Antiquity are booming, and the volume is a further reflection of this process. It brings together thirteen articles with a focus on the late 19th century and the first half of the 20th. During the 19th century, the (re)discovery through archaeology of Assyrian sites such as Nineveh triggered enormous interest among Europeans, who had previously known of these cities only through Biblical texts. The new findings challenged previous discourses about the region that were circulating in Europe at that time. However, the ancient materials were not received directly through primary sources; rather, their reception might be expanded or modified depending on the current prevailing discourse. This means that a subject can be (re)modified almost arbitrarily and interpreted for a variety of contexts. The question of interest for those working in reception studies, therefore, is not to assess whether the past is represented "correctly" (a normative approach), but rather to understand the situation in which it is received and ultimately instrumentalised (a constructivist approach). For this reason, the focus of several chapters is placed on the discursive interplay between the (re)discovery itself and its processing in politics, architecture, and art. Moreover, even though the archaeological excavations and the shaping of Assyriology as a new academic discipline were clearly a catalyst for this reception, one also has to pay attention to other chronologies that have so far been considered more peripheral. Therefore, the volume also includes studies dealing with sources from the 17th century onwards. – Among others the contributions study "The Ancient Near East in German textbooks around 1900" (B. Onken), "Reconstruction drawings of Ancient Near Eastern architecture as inspiration for building in the 1920ies in Germany" (B. Pedde), "The German novelist Karl May as a multiplier of knowledge about the Ancient Near East" (F. Pedde), "Fashion and the Ancient Orient" (F. Pinnock) and "Arnaldo Momigliano and his picture of the Orient" (A. Marcone), to list just a few
This essay surveys and assesses Joachim Jeremias' contribution to the study of ancient Judaism. To this end, Jeremias' monographs, essays and dictionary articles are reviewed, which are often devoted not only to ancient Judaism but also to the study of ancient Palestine, historical Jesus research or early Christianity, as well as his relevant reviews of Jewish studies literature and scattered methodological comments on the study of ancient Jewish texts. Consideration is also given to Jeremias' organisational activity with regard to the study of ancient Judaism. Providing an overview and discussing selected topics, the essay shows achievements and problems of Jeremias’ relevant works from the perspective of contemporary research on ancient Judaism
Josephine Baker in the Transatlantic World
Josephine Baker’s lasting star power can be observed in popular culture and memorialization around the world. Against this backdrop, Katharina Gerund outlines Baker’s public life and career – from modern superstar to heroine and spy to activist and mother. She focuses on the transatlantic dimension of Baker’s art and activism (incl. her role in cultural exchanges and national identity constructions), her military heroism during World War II, and her life-long fight against fascism and racism on both sides of the Atlantic
