Background.
Decarbonization of maritime transport and the problem related to proofing greenhouse emissions in the EU
Climate change, that is, long-term changes in temperatures and weather patterns caused by human action related to the burning of fossil fuels, such as oil is a global concern whose consequen-ces range from water scarcity, The rise in temperature of our oceans. Maritime transport currently ac-counts for 3 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions, and it is estimated that if international action is not taken, this will increase to 17 per cent by 2050. Various international organizations have taken several measures to mitigate the negative effects of such emissions. In this paper, we will focus on the European Fuel 55 Directive which raises many questions as to its application, among which the test of emissions (GHG) emitted by each ship stands out
Enhancing accuracy through model texts: long-term effects on EFL children's oral interaction
The current body of research on the use of model texts as written corrective feedback (WCF) primarily comprises one-shot studies that investigate their impact on adult and child learners. However, there is a noticeable lack of emphasis on exploring the long-term effects of this feedback method. This knowledge gap hinders our understanding of how models can enhance accuracy and support sustained language development among English as a foreign language (EFL) children. To address these gaps, the study investigated the potential effects of model texts on children's oral interaction over time, employing collaborative writing as a means to prompt learners¿ oral engagement. The study involved 60 Spanish EFL children (aged 11¿12) divided into a control group (CG), a treatment group (TG), and a long-term treatment group (LTG) who underwent two three-stage writing cycles. The TG received feedback once per cycle, and the LTG used models during both cycles and the interim period, whereas the CG self-corrected their own texts. Results revealed that model texts increased the occurrence of language-related episodes (LREs) and encouraged a focus on lexical and content aspects. Over time, exposure to models broadened the children¿s linguistic consideration, including grammar and discourse. Self-correction, on the other hand, emphasized grammar, spelling, and punctuation, highlighting the value of writing tasks in promoting languaging. The financial support by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (MINECO) under grant FFI 2016-74950-P (AEI/ FEDER/UE) and by the Basque Government under grant IT904-16 are hereby gratefully acknowledged
Biases in AI-supported industry 4.0 research: a systematic review, taxonomy, and mitigation strategies
Industrial engineering research has been reshaped by the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) within the framework of Industry 4.0, characterized by the interplay between cyber-physical systems (CPS), advanced automation, and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). While this integration opens new opportunities, it also introduces biases that undermine the reliability and robustness of scientific and industrial outcomes. This article presents a systematic literature review (SLR), supported by natural language processing techniques, aimed at identifying and classifying biases in AI-driven research within industrial contexts. Based on this meta-research approach, a taxonomy is proposed that maps biases across the stages of the scientific method as well as the operational layers of intelligent production systems. Statistical analysis confirms that biases are unevenly distributed, with a higher incidence in hypothesis formulation and results dissemination. The study also identifies emergent AI-related biases specific to industrial applications such as predictive maintenance, quality control, and digital twin management. Practical implications include stronger reliability in predictive analytics for manufacturers, improved accuracy in monitoring and rescue operations through transparent AI pipelines, and enhanced reproducibility for researchers across stages. Mitigation strategies are then discussed to safeguard research integrity and support trustworthy, bias-aware decision-making in Industry 4.0

Introduction: food waste is a significant environmental and economic issue, exacerbated by the
inaccuracy of traditional expiration dates. This Final Degree Project proposes the development
of a telemonitoring system for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) to more accurately estimate
the condition of perishable food products, thereby contributing to waste reduction.
Objectives: to design and develop an easily implementable telemonitoring system for VOC
detection, enabling a comparison of the sensitivity, stability and linearity of the SGP40 and
BME688 sensors in order to identify the most suitable one for quality control in food packaging.
Methodology: the project was divided into two modules. In the hardware module, laboratory
tests were conducted using ethanol, acetone, and ammonia under various concentrations,
temperatures and environmental conditions to evaluate sensor performance. In the software
module, an ESP32 board was programmed using Arduino to manage the sensors and transmit
data via Wi-Fi. A graphical user interface was developed in Python to store the information in
Excel files and/or a MySQL database. Additionally, a Power BI dashboard was implemented for
real-time visualization and advanced analysis of the experimental data.
Results: the tests revealed that the BME688 sensor exhibits greater sensitivity to changes in
VOC concentrations. However, the SGP40 showed higher stability and linearity, making it more
reliable for quality control applications. On the software side, the developed system allows for
structured data storage and clear visualization, optimizing the analysis process.
Conclusions: a functional VOC telemonitoring system has been designed and implemented,
highlighting the SGP40 as a promising option for future applications in food packaging quality
control. The system based on accessible technologies, offers a cost-effective and efficient
solution for environmental monitoring.Graduado o Graduada en Ingeniería Biomédica por la Universidad Pública de NavarraIngeniaritza Biomedikoko Graduatua Nafarroako Unibertsitate Publikoa
Political factors affecting corporate sustainability decisions: the impact of tariffs and corruption on adoption of UN Global Compact Principles
The global construction industry faces significant environmental and social sustainability challenges that hinder its alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This study investigates the impact of country-level corruption and trade tariffs, and the moderating role of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) protection, on construction firm SDG engagement. A quantitative analysis was conducted using an original dataset of 195 observations of construction firms across 31 countries collected from 2003 to 2022, with SDG engagement scores derived from public sources and country and institutional data from the World Bank and the Heritage Foundation. Ordinal logistic regression tested the direct and moderated effects of corruption, tariffs, and IPR on SDG engagement, controlling for other variables. The findings reveal that higher perceived home-country corruption and higher home-country tariffs are significantly and negatively associated with company SDG engagement scores. Stronger home-country IPR protection was found to weaken the negative impact of corruption and enhance the positive effects of lower tariffs on SDG engagement. Finally, the results highlight that institutional environments have a critical role in shaping firms¿ sustainability actions, suggesting that effective governance, an open trade perspective, and intellectual property protection are key enablers of corporate SDG alignment. These findings contribute to the literature by providing evidence of how institutional quality can foster responsible business strategies in the construction industry and offer practical insights for policymakers seeking to reduce barriers to sustainable development
