The degree of positive perfectionism among professional players in football and volleyball in Palestine

    No full text
Perfectionism plays a pivotal role in shaping an athlete's personality and enhancing their motivation to achieve peak performance. However, if not managed properly, perfectionism can become a source of psychological pressure, leading to excessive stress and fear of failure. Therefore, maintaining a balance between ambition and self-acceptance is essential for enhancing athletic performance without negatively impacting the athlete's mental well-being. The study aimed to identify the degree of positive perfectionism among professional football and volleyball players in Palestine, as well as to determine the differences in positive perfectionism between these two groups. The study employed a descriptive-analytical approach. The study was conducted on a stratified random sample of 79 professional volleyball players and 43 professional football players in Palestine. To collect data, the Positive Perfectionism Scale was used. The results showed that the degree of positive perfectionism among professional football and volleyball players in Palestine was high, with a mean score of 4.03±0.44. Furthermore, the results indicated that the t-value was statistically significant at the α≤0.05 level for positive perfectionism and its dimensions, favoring professional football players over volleyball players. The study found that professional athletes in Palestine have high positive perfectionism, with football players scoring higher than volleyball players

A.The problem rooted in sweeteners has led to the study of new types of food additives. Among them, steviol glycosides are being used as natural a caloric sweetener that present between 300-400 times greater sweetness than sucrose. Steviol glycosides are secondary metabolites with satiating characteristics. They are found in different plant species, however, the most commonly used for obtaining and researching them is Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni (Bert.). Steviol glycosides are diterpenes from the mevalonate pathway, whose biosynthesis has a part in common with the biosynthesis of gibberellic acid and another part in which the glycosylation of steviol is produced. However, the concentration of steviol glycosides in the leaves is not the same due to the genotypic profile of the plant, the stage of development, the location of the leaves, the environmental and hormonal variation or the method of extraction, purification and quantification. Among the environmental variations that cause a change in the concentration of steviol glycosides we can find factors such as drought, temperature, salinity, radiation, metal toxicity or a deficiency of nutrients. However, a high salinity does not favor the expression of the enzymes involved in the biosynthesis of steviol glycosides. As for the hormonal variations that affect the concentration of steviol glycosides, we can find hormones such as auxin, gibberellin, cytokinins, methyljasmonate, salicylic acid and hormones inhibitors of gibberellin biosynthesis, however, the treatments with methyl- Jasmonate does not favor the increase in the concentration of steviol glycosides. In addition, it should be noted that different factors such as increased temperature, Na2CO3, polyethylene glycol, nitrogen, gibberellins and salicylic acid support the synthesis of steviol glycosides, while treatments with ZnO, CuO, proline, KH2PO4, cytokinins and auxins stimulate the synthesis of rebaudioside A

    No full text
In the current context of digital transformation, it is timely to re-examine the traditionalmodel of exclusively in-person medical conferences. This reflection analyses the true cost of thisformat—including economic, professional, and personal dimensions—as well as the availableevidence on the effectiveness of online and hybrid models in continuing medical education. It alsodiscusses the influence of funding structures on the design of educational events. Finally, it advocatesfor the adoption of deliberately designed hybrid formats, focused on educational impact andimproved accessibility for healthcare professionals.

The constraints of excellence: Embodiment, exploitation, and violence in the neoliberal university

    No full text
Today's university is prey to a set of uneases that are founded on the precarization processes derived from the neoliberal doxa in relation to academic work. However, the university environment suffers from another type of more specific violence, centered on the development of the research trajectory itself and the hegemony of the so-called “culture of excellence”, whose demands are somatized, pushing those who dedicate themselves to research to the limit. Some of these uneases cross institutional and labor variables, since due to the existing asymmetries and hierarchies, they facilitate the exercise of tremendously harmful symbolic violence -such as mobbing and sexual harassment-. On the other hand, the logic of publish or perish induces a productivist vision of academic work, subordinated to metrics that have little to dowith the social utility of knowledge or its value in public debate. In our article we will address testimonies of symbolic violence, labor precariousness as well as the most relevant effects of the dynamics of the culture of excellence in the field of research.

Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the outcomes of a multifaceted program on antibiotic prescribing in primary care among children under three years of age

    No full text
Background/objective: Inappropriate antibiotic use in paediatric populations is a leading driver of antimicrobial resistance. In the Murcia Region, Spain, the Purapi program promotes the rational use of antibiotics among children under 3 years of age. This study aimed to analyse antibiotic use in this age group during the pandemic period (2020–2023) and to assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the effectiveness of a multifaceted program promoting appropriate antibiotic use. Methods: A retrospective, multicentre, population-based study was conducted in primary care using data from 2019 to 2024. Systemic antibiotic use (ATC J01 group) among children under three years was measured as defined daily doses per 1000 inhabitants per day (DHD). Differences across years and healthcare areas were assessed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) with Bonferroni correction. Results: Antibiotic consumption decreased by 49% in 2020 compared to 2019, coinciding with the implementation of national COVID-19 containment measures. From 2021 onward, agradualincrease wasobserved; however, by2024, levels remained 9%below pre-pandemic values. Penicillins account for 75% of prescriptions, mainly amoxicillin and amoxicillin–clavulanic acid. While variability across healthcare areas decreased during the pandemic, variability among primary care centres increased. Conclusions: The pandemic resulted in a temporary reduction in antibiotic use, followed by a partial reboun

Alteration in epithelium and stroma of post-INTACS cornea: Ultrastructure and 3D transmission electron tomography

    No full text
This study was conducted to investigate the ultrastructure of the epithelium and stroma of post INTACS corneas. INTACS were surgically inserted into the corneas of three patients to remodel the keratoconus shape. INTACS were inserted with the IntraLase femtosecond laser. Patients 1, 2, and 3 returned to the clinic 8, 6, and 9 years, respectively, after surgery due to their deteriorating vision. The lamellae above the INTACS were removed surgically and processed for light and electron microscopy. 2D and 3D digital images of lamellae, collagen fibrils (CFs), and proteoglycans (PGs) were captured by a bottom-mounted camera and analysed using iTEM software. The epithelium and stromal lamellae had degenerated. A large number of aggregates of microfilaments were present in the Bowman’s layer (BW) and throughout the stroma. In the stroma, just above the INTACS insertion, lamellae were completely disorganised and running randomly in the large electron-lucent spaces. The CF diameter was significantly smaller than in the normal cornea. 3D images showed microfibrils within the CF were less in the post-INTACS cornea than in the normal cornea. We believe that insertion of the INTACS disturbed the lamellar organisation and uniform distribution of CFs. This non-uniform CF distribution increased over time, resulting in vision impairment

Soft Skills in Health Sciences Education : A Scoping Reviewof Their Curricular Integration

    No full text
