    Energieladestrategien für FTS

    No full text
Automated guided vehicle systems are used for internal material transport. Due to technical advances, modern vehicles are no longer fixed to a track. This gives them more flexibility but makes it more difficult to charge their batteries while driving. They therefore have to visit charging stations to be charged. They are not available for material transport during the charging process. If too many vehicles have to charge at the same time, the system can no longer guarantee the planned throughput. In this work, battery charging strategies were developed to prevent too many vehicles from charging at the same time. The strategies were then tested in a simulation study and their effectiveness could be demonstrated. There were always enough vehicles available so that no orders were processed late. If the strategies were not used, delays occurred.

On time delivery performance is one of the most important logistic indicators. In particular, for producing companies the on-time delivery performance depends to a high degree on the fulfillment of planned completion dates. Unexpected disruptions cause significant deviations from planned processes and thus impair the compliance with the completion dates. The use of early warning systems in the context of operational disruption management can help to identify potential disruptive effects at an early stage in order to extend the action period for adequate reactions to disruptions. Therefore, in this paper the study of support vector regression (SVR) with regard to applicability and operational capability for the identification of disruptive effects in production logistics is presented

The traceability of food, feed, food-producing animals, and any other substance intended to be, or expected to be, incorporated into a food or feed shall be established at all stages of production, processing and distribution.” [EG02] The traceability of bulk materials in the field of food technology is a challenging task, which is not sufficiently solved with the state of the art. Where the material is not actively conveyed, but flows by itself under gravitational influence, static models as used today for silo management, are only conditionally usable. Computational traceability models based on the theory of cellular automaton represent a new and precise way to realize the batch wise storage of easily flowing to slightly cohesive bulk solids in large silos or stockpiles. In this contribution, solutions as well as application examples are presented, with which it is possible to reproduce bulk materials in large masses and volumes with high resolution in real time via statistical flow models

The Virtual Pole: Exploring Human Responses to Fear of Heights in Immersive Virtual Environments

    No full text
Measuring how effective immersive virtual environments (IVEs) are in reproducing sensations as in similar situations in the real world is an important task for many application fields. In this paper, we present an experimental setup which we call the virtual pole, in which we evaluated human responses to fear of heights. We conducted a set of experiments in which we analyzed correlations between subjective and physiological anxiety measures as well as the participant's view direction. Our results show that the view direction plays an important role in subjective and physiological anxiety in an IVE due to the limited field of view (FOV), and that the subjective and physiological anxiety measures monotonically increase with the increasing height. In addition, we also found that participants recollected the virtual content they saw at the top height more accurately compared to that at the medium height. We discuss the results and provide guidelines for simulations aimed at evoking fear of heights responses in IVEs

Evaluating the EC Private Data Sharing Principles: Setting a Mantra for Artificial Intelligence Nirvana?

    No full text
On April 25, 2018, the European Commission (EC) published a series of communications related to data trading and artificial intelligence. One of them called “Towards a Common European Data Space”, came with a working document: “Guidance on Sharing Private Sector Data in the European Data Economy”. Both the Communication and the guidance introduce two different sets of general principles addressing data sharing, contractual best practices for business-to-business (B2B), and business-to-government (B2G) environments. On the same day, the EC also published a legislative proposal to review the Public Sector (PSI) Directive. These two simultaneous actions are part of a major package of measures, which aim to facilitate the creation of a common data space in the EU and foster European artificial intelligence development. This article focuses on the first action, the “Guidance on Sharing Private Sector Data in the European Economy”. First, because it is one of its kind. Second, although these principles do not qualify as soft law (lacking binding force but having legal effects) the Commission’s communications set action plans for future legislation. Third, because the ultimate goal of these principles is to boost European artificial intelligence (AI) development. However, do these principles set a viable legal framework for data sharing, or is this public policy tool merely a naïve expectation? Moreover, would these principles set a successful path toward a thriving European AI advancement? In this contribution, I try to sketch some answers to these and related questions

Interactive Hyper Spectral Image Rendering on GPU

In this paper, we describe a framework focused on spectral images rendering. The rendering of a such image leads us to three major issues: the computation time, the footprint of the spectral image, and the memory consumption of the algorithm. The computation time can be drastically reduced by the use of GPUs, however, their memory capacity and bandwidth are limited. When the spectral dimension of the image will raise, the straightforward approach of the Path Tracing will lead us to high memory consumption and latency problems. To overcome these problems, we propose the DPEPT (Deferred Path Evaluation Path Tracing) which consists in decoupling the path evaluation from the path generation. This technique reduces the memory latency and consumption of the Path Tracing. It allows us to use an efficient wavelength samples batches parallelization pattern to optimize the path evaluation step and outperforms the straightforward approach

Cyber-physical production systems (CPPS), which are created by coupling several autonomously acting cyber-physical systems (CPS) that are networked and cooperating with each other via the Internet, offer approaches for the realization of fully flexible production. A production environment with autonomous, real-time optimized, transparent and fully adaptable structures is created, which is characterized by decentralized decision making, networking and complete embedding of all involved components. The main challenge of decentralized control of production supply in CPPS is increased complexity, as all entities are able to make their own decisions. They take on the role of decision makers. A universal organizational structure for decision making in the Automated Guided Vehicle System will be evaluated that can handle this increased complexity

Methods and technologies for determining the position of unaccompanied trailers in RoRo-terminals

    No full text
Unaccompanied truck trailers account for a large proportion of the loading units in RoRo- traffic. These are temporarily stored on the parking spaces of the RoRo-terminals and loaded onto RoRo-ferries from terminal-owned transport vehicles. At the landward entrance to the RoRo-terminal, the arriving trailers are registered and assigned to a parking space or a parking zone. If there are inconsistencies in location information regarding the unaccompanied trailers, since a trailer has not been parked on the assigned area, this leads to elaborate search processes on the part of the Tugmaster. In addition, there may be cases in which trailers cannot be found within the available turnover time. The use of systems for determining the position of unaccompanied trailers on the terminal site would lead to the avoidance of time-consuming search processes. However, a variety of different methods and technologies exist for determining the position of objects. This paper examines and discusses different methods and technologies for determining the position of unaccompanied trailers on Ro-Ro-terminals
