Courtship behaviors of Three-Lined Salamanders (Eurycea guttolineata)
The courtship behaviors of plethodontid salamanders have long been of interest to biologists studying topicssuch as the evolution of complex phenotypes and the origin of reproductive isolation. However, the paucity of basicnatural history data for some salamanders — including some rather widely distributed and common species — createslimitations for comparative research. We herein provide the first detailed account of courtship behaviors in Three-Lined Salamanders (Eurycea guttolineata). We staged trials with wild-collected adults from near Atlanta, Georgia, andobserved courtship behaviors in seven of eight trials. Of those seven trials, all resulted in spermatophore depositionand five resulted in successful spermatophore transfer. Overall, the courtship behaviors of E. guttolineata are similar tothose of other species in the genus and include “snapping” pheromone delivery — a behavior not previously observedin the closest relatives of E. guttolineata. We provide an ethogram and preliminary interpretations of these behaviorsand encourage others to collect more basic natural history observations

in Basic or Translational Oncology with an emphasis on bladder and/or prostate cancer.
Faculty should have evidence and impact consistent with appointments at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. These two positions are part of a cluster hire of three faculty in conjunction with the OSU College of Veterinary Medicine’s Department of Veterinary Biosciences to enhance our collaborative and comparative approach to this key thematic area of cancer and cancer-related research
Geology and Ground-Water Resources of Miami County, Kansas
Miami County, Kansas, has an area of 592 square miles. It lies within the Osage Plains section of the Central Lowlands physiographic province. Rocks above the Precambrian basement are 2,000 to 2,500 feet thick and are of sedimentary origin. They include rocks of Cambrian, Ordovician, Silurian, Devonian, Mississippian, Pennsylvanian, and Neogene ages. Exposed Pennsylvanian and Neogene rocks are nearly 400 feet thick. The Pennsylvanian rocks have a regional dip to the northwest of about 20 feet per mile.
Recent alluvial deposits have a maximum thickness of about 55 feet in the Marais des Cygnes River valley and yield moderate supplies of ground water. Upper Pleistocene terrace deposits have a maximum thickness of 50 feet and yield moderate amounts of water. The most productive bedrock aquifers are Pennsylvanian limestones and sandstones that are near enough to the surface to have been weathered, thereby increasing their permeability. Water with less than 1,000 ppm dissolved solids occurs to a depth of about 200 feet in these bedrock aquifers.
Water from Neogene deposits is of good quality, except that it is moderately hard and may contain excessive amounts of iron. Bedrock aquifers yield water of good quality, but in most localities the water is moderately hard.
Data collected as a part of this investigation include records of 123 wells and springs, logs of 116 wells and test holes, and chemical analyses of 25 water samples
Geology and Ground-Water Resources of Allen County, Kansas
Allen County lies within the Osage Plains section of the Central Lowlands physiographic province and includes an area of about 504 square miles. Rocks above the Precambrian basement have an average thickness of about 2,000 feet and are all sedimentary in origin. The consolidated deposits range in age from Cambrian through Pennsylvanian, and the unconsolidated deposits range in age from probable Tertiary through Quaternary. Only rocks of Pennsylvanian, Tertiary(?), and Quaternary age are exposed in the county. The exposed Pennsylvanian rocks have a regional dip to the northwest of about 12 to 15 feet per mile.
The most important bedrock aquifers are the shallow Pennsylvanian limestones and sandstones that have been weathered along joints, fractures, and bedding planes. Potable ground water is usually not found in the county below the base of the Kansas City Group, and in many places the boundary between fresh and saline water is much higher in the stratigraphic section.
Alluvial deposits having an average thickness of about 25 feet in the Neosho River valley should yield 10 to 100 gallons per minute of ground water to wells. Where saturated, Illinoisan terrace deposits should yield moderate amounts of water to wells. In much of the valley, semi-artesian or artesian conditions probably prevail owing to a confining silt which overlies the permeable gravels.
Water from the Quaternary deposits is of good quality but is usually very hard. Water derived from shallow bedrock aquifers is generally higher in dissolved solids content and hardness than water from the Quaternary deposits

While other pieces by Fornés have been more produced, such as Fefu and her Friends or Tango Palace, director Kris Peterson talks about why Manual for a Desperate Crossing, from 1996, spoke to her and her students, along with the many challenges and surprising rewards from working through and presenting this piece entirely virtually during the early part of the 2020 Covid-19 Pandemic. As we have seen repeatedly in the field of theatre, the pandemic moment forced artists, practitioners, and theatre community folks to re-think the art of production and possible adaptations given the new restrictions. While theatre may have returned to mostly in-person productions in the present moment, the lessons we can take from the accelerated learning about how to pivot under isolation and physical restriction will stay in our tool kit for years to come
Evaluating the Evidence: Public Awareness of the Association Between Alcohol and Cancer in the US
Occurrence of Euphorbia maculata L. (Euphorbiaceae) in Poland
The distribution of Euphorbia maculata L. (spotted spurge) in Poland was studied on the basis of published and original records as well as digitized herbaria and online databases. This North American species was first observed in the Botanical Garden in Kraków in 1864. Since then, data on 22 localities of E. maculata in Poland have been collected, primarily in the southern and central parts of the country. The species was reported initially from botanical gardens (six locations), where it still grows along roadsides, pathways, and flower beds. It also occurs in ruderal habitats, primarily in cracks between paving stones. Notably, half of the local populations (12) were observed for the first time in 2024-2025. These findings indicate that the species is expanding its range in Poland
Imagination in the scientific process
This article aims to demonstrate that the theory of multi-modal scientific decentering, far from neglecting the question of scientific imagination, in fact provides a renewed framework through which to approach it. Initially introduced in La Société de l’Invention (2018) and further elaborated in its methodological sequel La Philosophie du Paradoxe (2024), the theory of multi-modal scientific decentering had, until now, not directly addressed the issue of scientific imagination. This omission stemmed from the fact that the theory arose in response to a more fundamental and global dual problem. For this reason, we first recall what is meant by “multi-modal scientific decentering”. Only in a second step we address the specific nature of scientific imagination, understood precisely as shaped and constrained by the methodological decentering unique to each scientific discipline. Scientific imagination, inasmuch as it serves the aim of explaining phenomena, is neither merely reproductive nor freely productive (or creative) as is artistic imagination ; rather, it must invent what responds to a problem posed by the observed phenomena. Moreover, an exemplary instance of scientific progress — such as the transition from Newtonian to Einsteinian physics, which will be discussed here — was made possible through a form of productive imagination that operated not by addition but by subtraction : commonsense certainties, such as that of absolute simultaneity, became mere hypotheses, now deemed unnecessary
