Mytekonstruksjon i The Body of Myth: Mythology, Shamanic Trance, and the Sacred Geography of the Body: En diskursanalyse av innvirkningen til to diskurser på mytefremstillingen i et nyere vestlig esoterisk verk

This master thesis aims to take a closer look at a recent western esoteric book called The Body of Myth: Mythology, Shamanic Trance, and the Sacred Geography of the Body written by Joseph Sansonese under the pseudonym J. Nigro Sansonese. Both the book and the author have gone relatively unnoticed by academic research of any kind, while at the same time striving to appear as sources of academic knowledge themselves. Drawing inspiration from a wide range of different material, the book constructs a theory of myth which gathers bits and pieces from a long list of sources; some of them academic, and others most decidedly not. The theory of myth states that myths are esoteric descriptions of the human body during sublime trance. Through trance one is able to experience salvation in the form of complete inner awareness, which is synonymous with the divine. The knowledge of this originated in Proto-Indo-European shamanistic explorations of the body. Myths are veiled descriptions of these practices, which in combination with the spiritual technique raja yoga allows an initiate to achieve the sublime trance. This knowledge has been lost to the majority of modern people, but was self-evident to Proto-Indo-European people. By utilizing discourse analysis and Bruce Lincolns theory of myth this master thesis argues that the theory of myth Sansonese presents in the book has been strongly affected by two discourses, namely the Indo-European and traditionalistic discourses, seen in part through the influence of the works of philologist Georges Dumézil and scholar of religion Mircea Eliade respectively, both of which are cited in the book. The thesis concludes that while at times wavering and unclear in its representation of Indo-European people and myths as distinct and superior to other peoples and their respective myths, a central ideological framework within the Indo-European discourse, there are clear signs of several of the other ideological narratives contained within this discourse as having shaped the way myths are constructed within the book. The influence of the traditionalistic discourse on the construction of myths within the book is unambiguous. Most of the hallmarks of the traditionalistic discourse can be found in the text, and its theory of myth reads as a clear-cut statement of traditionalism.Religionsvitenskap mastergradsoppgaveRELV350MAHF-LÆHRMAHF-REL

Sammenligning mellom korpusundersøkelsen og spørreundersøkelsen viser at språkbrukere og aviser følger samme bruksmønster, generelt, men med noen få unntak.“På godt norsk”, the Norwegian Language Council’s list of substitution words for English loanwords in Norwegian, has been available online for 25 years, but do people know about the substitutions that have been promoted on it? Do Norwegian speakers of different ages use substitutions at different rates? How does the use and preferences of Norwegian speakers regarding substitutions compare with what we can observe from newspaper corpora? In this master’s thesis I have explored 15 of the 570 loanwords that are available on the substitution wordlist by using newspaper corpora. In addition, I have collected data from Norwegian speakers through a questionnaire about the loanwords and the substitutions. The questionnaire is divided in three sections: one section where the participants are to name an item or concept that is presented to them on a picture or a written description (elicitation tasks), one section where participants are asked to evaluate their own knowledge and usage of the loanwords and the substitutions investigated in this thesis (self-evaluation task), and one section where the participants are to look at sentences with the loanwords and substitutions and evaluate their acceptability (acceptability judgement tasks). The results show that in general, the participants are familiar with most of the loanwords and substitutions but prefer to use and are the most familiar with the loanwords, but there is some variation depending on the loanwords and the substitutions. Older participants tend to prefer the substitutions more than younger participants. A comparison between the questionnaire and the corpus data shows that, overall, Norwegian speakers follow the same patterns as the newspapers in terms of preference, but with some exceptions.Lingvistikk mastergradsoppgaveLING350MAHF-LIN

Dominant Sand Injection Formation Mechanisms in the Northern North Sea with Emphasis on the Oligocene-Miocene succession

The presence of sand injectites is well documented on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. The trigger mechanism of sand injectites remains a subject of debate and multiple different mechanisms have been suggested. This thesis aims to explore the mainstream proposed trigger mechanisms and assess whether any one of them is dominant in the northern North Sea. Diagnostic traits have been defined for each trigger mechanism. Extensive analysis of 3D seismic and well data from the northern North Sea was conducted to identify sand injectites exhibiting these characteristics. The thesis has placed particular emphasis on sand injectites located within the Oligocene-Miocene stratigraphy. The most important observations in this thesis are: 1) Multiple observations and well data suggest parent sands may have been sourced from above in the majority of sand injectites in Oligocene-Miocene sediment. 2) The majority of injectites in Oligocene Miocene sediment match the diagnostic outlined for the sinkite model suggesting it might be the dominant trigger mechanism within the stratigraphy. 3) No dominant trigger mechanism was found for the northern North Sea and it is believed that multiple trigger mechanisms are contributing to the formation of sand injectites in the study area.Masteroppgave i geovitenskapGEOV399MAMN-GEO

Response of Zostera marina and Associated Fauna to Simulated Heatwaves: Insights from a Mesocosm Study

This study investigates the population-specific responses of Zostera marina to a simulated late-summer marine heatwave, with a focus on growth traits, epiphyte coverage, and associated faunal communities. Temperatures during the heatwave treatment remained below the species' critical thermal threshold (28–30 °C), enabling an assessment of sublethal performance differences across populations. Results revealed that growth rate, shoot length, and rhizome elongation responded significantly to heat stress in a population-specific manner, with sheltered populations (Alvekilen and Hovekilen) generally benefiting from elevated temperatures. In contrast, more exposed populations (Langerumpa) showed reduced performance, suggesting that thermal variability, rather than mean temperature, may be a key driver of local adaptation. Unexpectedly, epiphyte coverage declined under the heatwave treatment, potentially due to increased grazer activity, highlighting complex trophic interactions under warming scenarios. Although species and group composition of associated fauna remained stable, species richness, evenness, and abundance varied by population and treatment, indicating indirect effects of thermal conditions on community structure. The findings underscore the importance of genetic and environmental context in determining eelgrass resilience and stress responses. The findings underscore the importance of genetic and environmental context, including genetic diversity, phenotypic plasticity, and ecosystem-level processes, in shaping Zostera marinas resilience to climate change and highlight the need for such insights to inform effective conservation and restoration strategies.Masteroppgave i biologiBIO399MAMN-HAVSJMAMN-BI

Impact of Underwater Noise from Offshore Wind Turbines on Marine Ecosystems.

Offshore wind energy is a rapidly growing sector as the demand for renewable energy continues to increase. However, its environmental impacts, particularly underwater noise, remain a concern for marine ecosystems. This thesis examines the impact of underwater noise generated by offshore wind turbines on marine life, focusing on two sites in the North Sea: the FINO1 offshore platform in Germany and the Hywind Tampen floating wind farm in Norway. Using the BELLHOP acoustic propagation model, Transmission Loss (TL) simulations were conducted to investigate how sound propagation changes under various environmental forcing conditions. For FINO1, observational data were used to validate TL analyses across different scenarios, including variations in frequencies, source depth, and range. The effects of wind speed and wave height on TL were assessed, alongside the impacts of extreme weather events and seasonal variations. A wind-generated underwater noise model was implemented using wind data spanning three consecutive years across a wide range of frequencies to explore the relationships between noise levels, frequency, and wind speed. At Hywind Tampen (HT), the primary focus of this study, TL modeling explored similar scenarios, incorporating Sound Pressure Level (SPL) analysis to evaluate noise propagation and its ecological impacts. SPL results were compared with the hearing thresholds and ambient noise spectrum levels for pelagic fish species such as cod and herring. This thesis combined with site specific environmental data along with BELLHOP sound propagation model, highlighted the dynamic and complex nature of underwater noise in offshore wind farm and pointed out the potential impact on marine life in the North Sea. Future work underscores the challenges posed by underwater noise from emerging technologies, such as mooring systems in floating wind turbines, which can impact benthic habitats and marine species. A comprehensive analysis is necessary to better understand these impacts and develop effective mitigation strategies.Masteroppgave i energiENERGI399MAMN-ENER
