    Satisfacción en el consumo de aceite de oliva convencional y ecológico en España y Túnez, aplicando ecuaciones estructurales (PLS-SEM)

    [ES] En el aceite de oliva virgen extra, que puede ser convencional o ecológico, la demanda de ambos depende de la satisfacción del consumidor. Esta investigación, realizada en Lleida y Sfax con 405 encuestados en cada zona, aplicó el modelo ECSI-PLS-SEM analizando la satisfacción del consumidor de aceite de oliva ecológico y convencional. Los resultados muestran que la calidad percibida y la imagen influyen más en la satisfacción en Lleida, mientras que en Sfax destaca la relación calidad-precio. Estas conclusiones permiten identificar factores clave para mejorar la satisfacción y orientar la planificación empresarial en ambos mercados, adaptando estrategias según preferencias locales. [EN] Extra virgin olive oil can be conventional or organic, and the demand for both depends on consumer satisfaction. This research, carried out in Lleida and Sfax with 405 respondents in each area, applied the ECSI-PLS-SEM model to analyze consumer satisfaction with organic and conventional olive oil. The results show that perceived quality and image have a greater influence on satisfaction in Lleida, while in Sfax the value for money stands out. These findings allow us to identify key factors to improve satisfaction and guide business planning in both markets, adapting strategies according to local preferences

    Farmers’ intention to use Agriculture 4.0 in marginal and non-marginal conditions

    Agriculture 4.0 enhances efficiency, sustainability, and yields while supporting climate change mitigation and adaptation. This study explores the adoption of Agriculture 4.0 among 131 durum wheat farmers in Sardinia, focusing on differences between marginal and non-marginal areas. Using an extended Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT2) framework, which includes perceived performance risk, the study identifies key factors influencing adoption. Facilitating conditions positively impact the adoption intentions, and perceived performance risk has a negative impact. However, performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence and price value don’t significantly affect adoption intentions. Policy recommendations include financial support, technical advice access, training programs, and awareness campaigns to promote adoption. These interventions aim to address barriers and foster equitable integration of Agriculture 4.0 technologies across diverse farming contexts

    Excerpts: This publication brings together data on the amount of farm real estate loans made and farm mortgages recorded. It gives the amount and percentage distribution for the United States, and for each of the Farm Credit districts for the years 1910-57. The data are derived from several sources. Data on "loans made" by the Federal land banks, Federal Farm Mortgage Corporation, joint stock land banks, and the Farmers Horse Administration and its predecessors, are the amounts of loans made as shown in official records and reports, except for those made by the joint stock land banks during the years 1917–20 which are partially estimated by the Bureau of Agricultural Economics (now the Agricultural Research Service) of the U. S. Department of Agriculture

    Cogniauxia podolaena, Dissotis rotundifolia, and Emilia coccinea are widely used in the Democratic Republic of Congo to treat various ailments, but also as contraceptives, laxatives, painkillers, and to combat malaria. Although commonly used in traditional medicine, no genotoxicity or mutagenicity data exist for these species. This study aims to assess their potential in vitro genotoxic and mutagenic effects. The plant material was collected in Kinshasa and authenticated by botanist Blaise Bikandu at the herbarium of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Kinshasa. Methanol, ethyl acetate, and water extracts of these species were prepared and subjected to the AMES test, the comet assay, and the micronucleus test. Genotoxicity was assessed using ethyl methanesulfonate (EMS) and benzo (a) pyrene (BaP). Extracts from C. podolaena tested positive in the AMES test, particularly on the TA98 strain, suggesting frame-shift mutations. Methanol extracts from all three plants caused dose-dependent DNA damage in the comet assay, while limited genotoxicity was observed for the aqueous extract of C. podolaena. Co-genotoxic effects were observed with EMS and BaP. Methanol extracts from all species and aqueous/EtOAc extracts from C. podolaena induced chromosomal abnormalities in the micronucleus test. The results suggest that these traditional medicinal plants contain genotoxic agents, warranting further toxicological studies

    Cotton as a Crop for the Yuma Reclamation Project

    Excerpt: There is needed in the Yuma Valley a crop that will bring in a large cash return per acre and that can be grown in rotation with alfalfa. The farmers of the valley have demonstrated that alfalfa can be grown there profitably for seed and for hay, and this crop is likely to remain the most important source of wealth to the Yuma Reclamation Project. But it is not profitable to grow alfalfa continuously. It succeeds much better when grown in rotation with some crop that can be cultivated, which thus serves as a cleaning crop to put the land in better condition to again grow alfalfa. Cotton is admirably suited to such a rotation

    Persistence of Cover Crop Use in Crop Production in the United States, 2012–2022

    Despite extensive research on cover crop use, little research has been done on the repeated use, or persistence, of cover crops in the crop production process. To examine the persistence of cover cropping, this report uses four panel data sources: (1) the U.S. Department of Agricultureʼs (USDAʼs) 2012, 2017, and 2022 Censuses of Agriculture; (2) crop acreage submitted by farmers through the USDA, Farm Service Agencyʼs Form 578 for crop years 2013−19; (3) an on-the-ground, in-person “windshield” survey by the Indiana Conservation Partnership for crop years 2014−19; and (4) the USDA Agricultural Resource Management Survey (ARMS) Phase 2 from 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, and 2021. The percentage of land under cover crops differs by data sources, but overall, cover crop use has increased over time. However, in the majority of data sources, this increase over time masks a significant share of fields and operations reducing or disadopting cover crop use. Results also indicate the levels of cover crop use and its persistence are positively correlated across regions but do not substantially differ across crop rotation or when livestock are present on the operation

    Suggested Project Design, Senegalese Component of the OMVS Regional Grain Stabilization Project

    Excerpts: The Senegalese component of U. S. Agency for International Development (USAID) assistance to the OMVS (Organization for Development of the Senegal River Valley) Regional Grain Stabilization Project is authorized under Non-Capital Project Paper, Project No. 625-11-150-600, April 2, 1972, and revised March 1972. The long run objective of this project is to involve the countries of Mali, Mauritania, and Senegal (members of the OMVS) in a regional program to manage cereal grain supplies. The project authorizes technical assistance and other funding inputs for an initial effort (FY 72-FY 75) to develop relevant and complementary domestic cereal grain supply management programs in each OMVS member country as a basis for initiating effective regional cooperation. The following discussions represent this team's suggested design for the Senegalese component of the OMVS Regional Grain Stabilization Program. It is intended as a working document, and the team anticipates there will be a number of additional inputs into the design before it becomes final. In preparing its report the team has followed guidelines provided by USAID and the Malian project design, which was suggested as an example
