ENGLISH FOR SPECIFIC PURPOSES: REPORT WRITING FOR PETROLEUM ENGINEERING STUDENT
Full text linkThe objective of developing this material is merely to lead students’ attention
to improve their skills in writing a report which can be further used either in their
university’s tasks or in their future careers. With this adequate knowledge, students
will be able to communicate their ideas in the form of written language in petroleum
engineering (PE) areas because they will be engaged more in writing reports in their
future careers. The materials appropriate to the students’ needs are not always
available for PE students, therefore, it is significant to develop and compile more
suitable materials in how to write a report based on the students’ needs (Lakawa,
2007).
This teaching material is equipped with several reading passages as authentic
materials which were mostly taken from various sources available in the field of PE.
By providing authentic materials, students will be exposed to real language, which are
being used in real context although the focus is quite specific (Jordan, 1997). At the
same time, students will be highly motivated to study giving the sense of achievement
when the texts are understood so that they will be encouraged for further reading
(Lakawa, 2007)
