Assessment-driven Learning Through Serious Games: Guidance and Effective Outcomes

    No full text
Evaluation in serious games is an important aspect; it aims to evaluate the good transmission of pedagogical objectives, the performance of student in relation to these objectives defined in the pedagogical scenario, the content of the course and the predefined criteria. However, the effectiveness of learning is under-studied due to the complexity involved to gamify the assessment concept, particularly when it comes to intangible measures related to the progression of learning outcomes, which is among the most important aspects of evaluation in serious games. This paper reviews the literature regarding assessment due to their importance in the learning process with a detailed assessment plan applied on serious game. Then, it presents a framework used to facilitate the assessment design integrated in serious games. Finally, a significant example of how the proposed framework proved successful with corresponding results will conclude the paper

    No full text
This paper deals with non-integer internal model control (FIMC) based proportional-integral-derivative(PID) design for load frequency control (LFC) of single area non-reheated thermal power system under parameter divergence and random load disturbance. Firstly, a fractional second order plus dead time(SOPDT) reduced system model is obtained using genetic algorithm through step error minimization. Secondly, a FIMC based PID controller is designed for single area power system based on reduced system model. Proposed controller is equipped with single area non-reheated thermal power system. The resulting controller is tested using MATLAB/SIMULINK under various conditions. The simulation results show that the controller can accommodate system parameter uncertainty and load disturbance. Further, simulation shows that it maintains robust performance as well as minimizes the effect of load fluctuations on frequency deviation. Finally, the proposed method applied to two area power system to show the effectiveness

Control Radiation Pattern for Half Width Microstrip Leaky Wave Antenna by using PIN Diodes

    No full text
In this paper, a novel design forsingle-layer half width microstrip leaky-wave antenna (HW-MLWA) is demonstrated. This model can digitally control its radiation pattern at operation frequency and uses only two values of the bias voltage, with better impedance matching and insignificant gain variation. The scanning and controlling the radiation pattern of leaky-wave antennas (LWA) in steps at an operation frequency, by using switches PIN diodes, is investigated and a novel HW-MLWA is introduced. A control cell reconfigurable, that can be switched between two states, is the basic element of the antenna. The periodic LWA is molded by identical control cells whereas a control radiation pattern is developed by combining numerous reconfigurable control cells. A gap capacitor is independently connected or disconnected in every unit cell by using a PIN diode switch to achieve fixed-frequency control radiation pattern scanning. The profile reactance at the free edge of (HW-MLWA) and thus the main lobe direction is altered by changing the states of the control cell. The antenna presented in this paper can scan the main beam between 18o to 44o at a fixed frequency of 4.2 GHz with a measured peak gain of 12.29 dBi

Detection of Proximal Caries at The Molar Teeth Using Edge Enhancement Algorithm

    No full text
Panoramic X-Ray produces the most common oral digital radiographic image that it used in dentistry practice. The image can further improve accuracy compared to analog one. This study aims to establish proximal caries edge on enhancement images so they can be easily recognized. The images were obtained from the Department of Radiology, General Hospital of M. Djamil Padang Indonesia. Total file of images to be tested were 101. Firstly, the images are analyzed by dentists who practiced at Segment Padang Hospital Indonesia. They concluded that there is proximal caries in 30 molar teeth. Furthermore, the images were processed using Matlab software with the following steps, i.e. cropping, enhancement, edge detection, and edge enhancement. The accuracy rate of detection of edge enhancement images being compared with that of dentist analysis was 73.3%. In the edge enhancement images proximal caries edge can be found conclusively in 22 teeth and dubiously in eight teeth. The results of this study convinced that edge enhancement images can be recommended to assist dentists in detecting proximal caries

Development of Decision Support System for Ordering Goods using Fuzzy Tsukamoto

    No full text
The determination of a number of items in the right number is very essential for a company, but in actual practice, it is not trivial task. There are many factors that influence them such as inventory and sales levels. If a number of the ordering goods is too slight or too much, it will effect in the fulfillment of consumer demand. One of the ways that can be used to predict a number of ordering goods is a Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) using Tsukamoto fuzzy logic method. Three variables that are used in this study, namely sales, inventory, and ordering or purchasing. The sales input variables are divided into 3 categories, namely down, constant, and rise. Then, inventory input variebles are divided into 3 categories, namely a slight, moderate and many, likewise ordering input variables also consists in 3 categories, namely less, constant, and increase. The next step is the combination of rules from all events, then performing inference and defuzzifikasi to find average centered. To prove the applied method against manual calculations are then implemented in the developed system. The results of the system calculation do not much different with the calculation results that are done by manually. This is proven by information in the table of Mean Squared Error (MSE) with error results of under 1. So, without prejudice to accuracy in the calculation, the system can be used to save time in determining the amount of the ordering goods. The proposed method can help for research object, in this case is retail company to determine a number of ordering goods

Data Analysis for Solar Energy Generation in a University Microgrid

    No full text
This paper presents a data acquisition process for solar energy generation and then analyzes the dynamics of its data stream, mainly employing open software solutions such as Python, MySQL, and R. For the sequence of hourly power generations during the period from January 2016 to March 2017, a variety of queries are issued to obtain the number of valid reports as well as the average, maximum, and total amount of electricity generation in 7 solar panels. The query result on all-time, monthly, and daily basis has found that the panel-by-panel difference is not so significant in a university-scale microgrid, the maximum gap being 7.1 % even in the exceptional case. In addition, for the time series of daily energy generations, we develop a neural network-based trace and prediction model. Due to the time lagging effect in forecasting, the average prediction error for the next hours or days reaches 27.6 %. The data stream is still being accumulated and the accuracy will be enhanced by more intensive machine learning

Modelling and Parameters Identification of a Quadrotor Using a Custom Test Rig

    No full text
Quadrotor by nature is a very unstable system and flying it without any feedback control algorithm is deemed impossible. However, before designing the control system, system identification need to be conducted as the accuracy of the control system depends highly on the accuracy of the model. Therefore, this paper explained the design of the quadrotor model with an “X” configuration using the Euler-Newton model. Two types of test rig were designed to measure the thrust coefficient, torque coefficient and throttle command relation parameter needed in the model. Other parameter such as moment of inertia was also being measured by separating the quad rotor model into several sections: Motors, Electronics Speed Controllers (ESC) and Central Hub. All parameters needed in the designed quad rotor model has been successfully identified by measuring the parameters using the custom-built quad rotor and test rigs. The parameters found in this paper will be used in designing the control system for the quadrotor

    No full text
This paper presents combinations of level shifted pulse-width modulation algorithm with conventional discontinuous pulse-width modulation methods for cascaded multilevel inverters. In the proposed DPWM a zero sequence signal is injected in sinusoidal reference signal to generate various modulators with easier implementation. The analysis four various control strategies namely Common Carrier (CC), Inverted Carrier (IC), Phase Shifted (PS) and Inverted Phase Shift (IPS) for cascaded multilevel inverter fed induction motor drive has been illustrated. To validate the proposed work experimental tests has been carried out using dSPACE controller. Experimental study proves that using proposed algorithms reduction in common-mode voltage with fewer harmonics along with reduced switching loss for a cascaded multilevel inverter fed motor drive has been achieved
