Multi-element co-doping boosts P2/O3 biphasic stability for high-performance sodium storage
P2-type layered oxides are promising cathode materials for sodium-ion batteries (NIBs) due to their high structural stability and fast Na+ diffusion. However, cationic/anionic redox instability and irreversible P2-O2 phase transition are key issues affecting the performance of P2-type cathodes. Herein, a multi-element doping cathode material P2/O3-Na0.67Ni0.33Mn0.59Cu0.05Mg0.07Ti0.01Al0.01O2 is designed and successfully synthesized, achieving high capacity of 142.35 mAh g−1 at 0.1 C and cycling stability with 79.91 % capacity retention after 500 cycles at 10 C rate even at a high charge cut-off voltage of 4.3 V. By combining advanced characterizations and computational modeling, Cu and Mg/Ti/Al multi-element co-doping in Ni-Mn layered oxides leads to form P2/O3 biphasic stable structure, enhances cationic redox reactions and suppresses O2 phase transitions. This work proposes a new approach for constructing high-performance P2/O3 biphasic sodium-ion cathode materials through the doping of active and inert elements
